DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Best armour setup

So what is the best steel armour setup (so no candy)?
Like does wearing a chainmail under a breastplate help?
Stuff like that is what I want answered

So everything was going well at Cheesemurdered so well that I was bored as my soldiers were ALL legendary fighters, axedwarves, shield users blablabla
But then... A huge goblin siege of 150 goblins mounted on giant toads and war cave dragons! I told my military to hack em down but only one of them went to meet them
Oh god... He killed around 100 before the other axelords arrived

They also slaughtered in seconds the caravans of humans and elves. It took so much time to haul dem corpses $:-\$
Btw they had candy helmets, axes and steel armour (All was masterwork)

Maybe axelords are a tad overpowered. ( They also run faster that bloodthirsty war dogs. Faster than war dogs? Faster than dogs? Steel armoured dwarves? Faster? Dogs?)

A few months later I let the clowns loose. I lost

Also a civialian punched a unicorn. The result? Unicorn teeth pinata!

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / The Early Death

7 interpid dwarves were sent to establish an outpost but little did they know that a pack of giant grey langurs were lurking...
The first attack was quite deadly 1 dwarf and 5 dogs died after this The dwarfs decided to build an exterior wall but just as the bridge was complete they came...(This happened after the second migrants)
They went bananas on the fortress killing every single animal and person while they robbed some wool(They entered the fortress)
And thats how my fortress ended

Damm monkeys I swear that next time I will butcher every last one

Has this happened to anyone ( Getting destroyed by giant animals)?

DF Gameplay Questions / I can't find iron ore

So I just started another fortress and I noticed i wasnt getting any iron ores and if the wiki is right its only in the sedimentary layers and my sedimentary layer is only composed of limestone.After the limestone theres no other sedimentary layer.
What can I do now cause I want to make some steel and iron stuff

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / At peace with the Goblins!

So before I embarked I checked the neighboring civs. I was at war with teh evil goblins

But then after one year of playing I realized I was at peace with Goblins and Kobolds!

Does anyone know how to start a war with goblins or kobolds. if not I guess I will punch a human diplomat or something

(Or build an epic army to battle the demons! )

Btw I am playing on 34.11

Hmm battling demons sure sounds cool...
