True, either that or angels just aren't actively aggressive and only try to kill you if you enter the vault.

Although it's still kind of weird you don't hear anything like "Several weeks ago, Urist McDabblingAdventurer went to the mysterious structure of Angelslab and never returned - the same fate had befallen 10 others. Can you investigate this strange location, oh noble LegendaryAdventurer McMurderFucker the Killer of Children?"

Yeah, I can't recall ever finding one without abusing Legends. Are there any troubles NPC messages for nearby vaults?
Far as I know, no, there arent. They're just...kind of there.

Oh derp, I misinterpreted what you said - thought you meant it could lead you to a person's location if their blood was smeared on the location itself...only later did I realize you meant the sword. Sorry, too much trying to fix modding issues the past few days.

2074
Eh, that seems a bit overpowered...

You need to reduce the scope, or apply more conditions to reign it in...

...

How about this, a sword that can lead you to a person's exact location...

Provided that said person's blood has been smeared upon it at a previous point in time...
Wouldn't that make it go from "overpowered" to "way too situational and imprecise"? Tbh I think I prefer the OP version myself.

There was a lot more fire involved too.
Hahaha, I always love doing arena-testing with fire-using creatures in the initial patch of grass with a tree. Always fun seeing the whole thing burn down.

Well, I came back to my adventure after a long break, and what do I find within minutes of playing? The night troll I was sent on a quest to kill. I quickly deal with it and decide to go back to get a new quest from the lady of the nearby town. She sends me off after another night troll somewhere to the southeast, I end up dealing with 2 giant feline creatures and the screen zooms in a bit. I assume its a lair so I look around a bit...NOPE its a vault, I stumbled upon a vault on accident. This should be fun.
Oh dear, I almost never find vaults at random - I just use legends viewer to start near one and check it out.

Take some screencaps of the creature descriptions, those are always pretty interesting.

DF Modding / Re: [MODDING] CREATURE & ENTITY QUESTIONS THREAD
« on: April 18, 2016, 08:28:44 am »
This is somewhat a weird question...in what order should I put the tags in a multi-caste race, where I want some castes to be hairless, some to only have head hair, some to have only facial hair and some to have both?

It seems that whatever I try, I either get crashes in worldgen or the hair layers just don't get descriptors, i.e "braided", of any kind, besides the regular "his/her [colour] hair is extremely long] one.

Here's the creature file itself, for reference

https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/62904003/creature_demon.txt

Basically, what I'm trying to do is - annihilan and nathrezim males should only have facial hair, eredar and shivan males should have both facial and head hair, ered'ruin males and females as well as shivan, nathrezim and eredar females should have only head hair, whereas both male and female mo'arg, felguard and gan'arg castes as well as female annihilan should have no hair at all. The particular iteration of that file crashes in world-gen at "finalizing sites" although before this one I had one where the world genned properly, there were just no specific descriptors for the hair - yes I have the proper tokens for it in the entity file as well so that's not the issue.

EDIT: Ok, nvm, I managed to fix this with the help of a user on the DF subreddit.

For comparison here's the working creature raw for anyone having similar problems.
https://www.dropbox.com/s/uobs7d092k6etf8/creature_demonworking.txt?dl=0

Seems that for complex multi-caste races with different hair settings you don't want to put every hair token in one space and split them up - facial hair tissue layers and hair colours go first when defining each caste at the top, then the remaining hair tokens should go AFTER the shared caste materials and tissues. Otherwise you get crashes or hair layers not getting style descriptors.

Hahaha, tbh I wanted you to check out the magma giants since the regular magma men are actually in vanilla, but this is still pretty cool - shame there's no "arena mode fights" thread.

God, I hate crundles with a passion just because there's always so many of them. Gets real annoying real fast when job cancellations with "Interrupted by Crundle" keep popping up.
One of the reason I seal the caverns...even if you kill them, there are too many corpses.
That too, but my main reason is that they often start running away immediately, which not only distracts dwarves from labors but also potentially forces the dwarves to chase them down to the caverns, often encountering beasts that are actually dangerous.

Heh, I have a completely different attitude to it, tbh.

I sometimes try to "force" characters a bit, i.e I used to make completely inept elf peasants named something like Pipeweed, Pipeweed Jr. or Pipeweed III and seeing how far they can go - a few times I didn't bother climbing out of a tree and just jumped out of it, without checking how tall it is. Most of the time I survived with a broken bone or something, but atleast a few times I died either due to my neck being compressed and suffocating or my head or upper/lower body outright splitting on impact.

Most of the time though, I just gen a character with some innate skills in combat and decide on a whim how their story goes. Doesn't really bother me when they die, as long as it's not in a completely lame way - but even if they do, I just carry on and make someone else.
Myself I think that the right way to enjoy DF adventure mode is to give thought to the character and the story only after you've already finished adventuring, or while you're in the middle of it and have already done some impressive deeds, instead of planning from the start how everything is supposed to go. Guess you could say its a more natural way of letting the story flow, even though sometimes it is entertaining to "force" a story, lol.

Nah, I'm using some personal mods - haven't released them publicly.

AFAIK everything heals just by fast travel, except nerves, nails and I think toes and fingers as well - I atleast still had a smashed up toe even after fast travelling (though it could have been referring to the nail - no idea).

If you go to the same conversation menu where you ask someone to join your adventure, there should be an option "demand an item" - you can then demand for them to drop something and they'll consider you a brigand. It rarely works though unless you rough them up a bit.

As for wrestling you can certainly get peoples gear that way too - grab hold on one of their items, then press shift+i like you would for filling your waterskin with water, then find the appropriate piece of gear you were holding on to, select it, and it should give you an option to struggle for possession of it - again, this doesn't always work - if you're considerably stronger than the person you're robbing you should be able to take those items no problem, if you're weaker it rarely works unless the target is unconscious.

I slew him as well, but left with crippling wounds. Not liking how this would affect future fights, I retired back to my meadhall.
I do that as well, or just let my adventurer die stupidly in one way or another - I don't want nerves to heal but at the same time it gets annoying when you "win" a fight but are left permanently crippled.

Generated a third world so I think everything should be fine with my mods now, gonna start adventuring later though.

Hahaha, nah it's fine, I'm almost done I think - I screwed up one thing and need to regen since skin, eye and hair colour was missing (forgot to add SELECT_CASTE:ALL before I defined those). Genned two worlds already so I'm thinking everything is working fine now - if a third one generates normally then it's pretty much confirmed.

I played WoW on a private server around 3 years ago - before that I played on a normal paid server during TBC before I quit - paid servers are a lot better due to scripts and such actually working. The game itself had more depth then too, IMO. Draenei were really cool even if I myself somewhat prefer their toothy WC3 appearance that was recycled for one of their mutated versions - added those in as well as a separate race (the other, non-toothy mutated version is a caste for regular draenei).
