Masterwork DF / Re: ☼Orcs☼ - Everything Orc Mode
« on: March 09, 2015, 02:15:31 am »
I know I've said it before. But I need to reevaluate.

Orcs are my second favorite MW race (After my wasps). I love the MORE DAKKA aspect of it and the fact that DFHack was used minimally with it, keeping mainly to the raws.

One suggestion: Make lamellar either easier to get or better, the cost really isnt balanced.

Ok everyone. GAME IS STARTING. mark your requested drop positions on the map. Copy into MS paint and edit it and re-post.

19th Malachite.

Fuck. It got Baztu. ((A logger)) and nearly got Egin. ((Our other logger)) I saw the whole thing. At appeared next to the ongoing trenchworks of the river divert. That's when I yelled out in my loudest voice to get everyone inside. The military assembled in the hive ready to take the fucker on. It chased down Baztu. It didn't stand a chance. Baztu got a single swing in with his copper axe, nearly knocking it into the trench. Unfortunately, the beast regained it's balance, grabbed Baztu and ripped it's throat out. ((I am dramatising here.)) Then as the beast raised itself from the kill, Egin charged at it. The two attacked each other for over five full minutes. But, eventually, the brave effort was in vain, as Egin charged it, The beast kicked Egin into the trenchworks, hurting it badly, but no biting. Then as it was poised to bite, a shudder cursed through it's body as an arrow appeared in it's head. Turning into a centaur, the evil being of creation turned tail and ran, helped by the cries of the military and another arrow in it's back.

((I refined the ranged squad. I am having the military as soldiers only until we have a surplus of workers. I also upgraded the ranged squad, giving the sole wasp in it a compound bow.))

16th Galena.
Beak wolves are attacking. I am sounding the alarm

21st Galena.
The beak wolves were no match. I ordered the military to stand to in the courtyard, left the gate open, and as they got caught up in our cage traps, the military charged. The military killed one wolf and then the wolves routed. We killed another one as they were retreating. We now have 6 wolves in the traps.

I wonder if they're big enough for conversion.

23rd Galena.
One of the soldier wasps have been possessed.

1st limestone.
The possession resulted in a tin throne. I'll place it into the meeting hall to improve the room

23rd Timber.
Nothing eventful. The miners opened the trapline today. Let's see if we can get a few infectables

3rd Moonstone.
One of the farmers stopped socialising with everyone, and just ran and took over the clothiers shop

15th Moonstone.
Just as the trench/river/trenchiver (Note to self, that's the official name for it from now on the Trenchiver) is complete, the river freezes over. Great. And the Farmer is yelling for some cut gems
Will make plans for a wall along the river, maybe even some fortifications

17th Opal. A sad day.
One of the farmwasps has been stricken by melancholy. A brief check of the others determines it is a one-off situation. It didn't get the cut gems it wanted for it's grand creation

((This is actually my first time failing a mood))

4146
Well, fuck. This is my first werecreature too.

((JOAT=Jack Of All Trades. JOMT=Jack Of Most Trades. And thanks for leaving me with a party happening Than. and a constant cannot load cage trap spam))

Diary of Insanegame27. Second Overseer of Spawnedflies

8th granite.

Upon the queen selecting me as her second-in-charge in civilian matters, I immediately had one thought.
Stop the JackOfAllTrading and specialise.

There's lots of work to be done. I have a plan for completely seperating the hive from the east side of the river, with a lot of traps involved

I will Dig a trench near the river and fill it with water so the only way across is a tiny land bridge, I have ordered this to happen.

9th Granite.

Today I noticed that we have absolutely no carpenters workshops. I mean, Wasp cement is good and all, but sometimes you need something a little more... Robust? Anyway, part of specialising meant that we have 2 dedicated woodworkers, So i'm going to order one to be built.

6th slate.

Migrants arrived today. we got a worker fleshwarper, a worker butcher, a worker miner, a worker peasant, a worker trader, a high master oven operator worker, a dyer worker and a hunter soldier (who will become the ranged leader. damn birds avoiding my traps.).

1st Felsite.

One of the wasps have been acting strangely lately, It stopped working and just sat in its room. It claims to have knowledge of plans for a super weapon and needs a forge. I have commissioned one to be built.

18th Felsite

Some merchants showed up today, I am ordering the small amount of crafts we have produced to the depot. I am ordering lots of seeds from the traders, whip vine, plump helmet, ald other plants and their seeds we need for the fleshwarper. I am also ordering assorted venoms to coat our weapons with.

25th Felsite.

The Wasp claimed the forge and drew pictures of a forest after grabbing an iron bar. Why do the two loggers have to go onbreak then?

27th Felsite.

Praise the depths! For we now have Errudarbilarri Hutsiemaiz! The Artifact Iron war hammer!

11th Hematite.

The work is going smoothly on the artificial ravine/tobe river. I am designating a trap line into the caverns to catch us some animals for a larvae pit

18th Malachite.

I was making a mechanism for the trap line, and all of a sudden I hear a high pitched scream of a wasp. Rushing to the surface, I saw a massive humanoid mammoth. I am ordering everyone inside the hive and quarantining any that get bitten

4150
Initial reaction on loading therapist: Wholly shit that's a lot of Jackofallmosttrades.

And: OHGODMYEYES

PS: I specialise my guys. But JOAT/JOMT's may suit the wasps short lifespans better.

4151
Alright, rex hasn't responded. I will take over. Expect deaths.

4153
Simple. We pilot them. we have basic control over where they crash land

any updates on the bug/my deep misunderstanding, whichever it may be?

4155
Mmhmmm. Follow-up questions and comments, then.

First off, a 100m flamethrower was never my intention. >.> However, upon looking it up to try and find typical ranges for flamethrowers(I was gonna go with 20m), and wikipedia says modern ones can reach 50 to 80m, which is a lot more than I expected. The biggest disadvantage, besides the obvious size and weight, and comparatively low range for said size, was the ammo; used up fuel quickly. I was actually going to take an ammo pack to try and both represent the fuel tank and give me enough ammo to be effective.

Never expected to be able to throw sticky bombs very far, and magnetic clamp grenades would practically need to be slapped on anyway.

Reading about breaching charges, they seem to basically be precision shaped charges, so I don't know why that would be the case...speaking of which, there is a lower limit to speed, right? You aren't going to be rendered immobile from taking webbing, an ammo pack, and a titanium bodysuit? Additionally, ballistic breaching rounds for shotguns should be available, right?

If the purpose of the mission is to kill, why do we have zipties? I was under the impression we wanted to get some prisoners.

What about an EOD/bracing fire-proof suit? Basically, something designed in particular for protection from shrapnel, explosives, fire, chemical weapons, etc.?

When you say the entire squad is as slow as it's slowest person, do you mean on a tactical scale, or an individual scale? If you mean individual, then your 'warning' becomes an invitation to just give everyone as much armor and stuff as whoever's slowest, since it doesn't make a difference anyway.

If we have seriously basically not advanced in the setting, to the point that warfare has remained virtually the same besides using a much more expensive method of getting troops to an area(and one liable to result in SAM strikes), why is the year 2300? Are we seriously using 300 year old designs? Wouldn't this fit better for, say, 2080 or something, at most, if you wanted to have spaceships and drop pods(and even then, given current weapon developments....)?

Also, I sure hope we aren't using steel drop pods. Tungsten and ceramic are far safer, since that's the type of stuff they use on reentry craft. Additionally, 5 minutes is a bit, um, 'optimistic' for an orbit-to-surface drop. For perspective, kinetic bombardment using 24 thousand mph rods would take estimated 12 minutes or so for them to hit a given target, though they aren't directly above. And we have to slow down enough to not die on impact...

Also, you never answered the other question I axed you.

edit:It's shameful display. As in, they flee, which is shameful. >.> Though the LPer might have said it different.

OK, I will change the year to 2080, even though human advancement on a physical scale has started to slow dramatically from everywhere except computers, which double every 2 years. Either way, the year really doesn't matter for game perspectives. Anyways, your other questions

As i said in the OP, you can ask for custom gear.

That's practically the double thick ballistic vest in a nutshell.

They are fairly weighty. I've seen one on an excursion for school

This was about the stealth to speed thing, right? I meant to answer it, but I had a brainderp. I did, It was just unclear which question I was answering. The answer was yes.

GOD I'M ALL OVER THE PLACE!

I mean on a tactical scale, but it applies to individual as well. On the big scale map (The one I already MS painted), you're represented by a "squad circle." When you enter combat, I'll draw a smaller scale map, which you copy into paint, draw arrows where you want your troops to move (this is where it's on an individual scale. If you'e ambushed in a courtyard (planned shh, i never said anything) then your titanium bodysuit guys are going to stay exposed for longer than your BV guys.)

A few reasons. a) They are standard kit and always good to have. b) Just in case, as they are nearly weightless and have infinite uses. and c) You may, at one point in time, want to capture a terrorist officer to uncover intel or troop movements.

Going to update the OP with something I just thought about. A SCORE SYSTEM

Right. As well as being inconsequential to the plot, I also forgot to do my research on this. 5 mins was a generalisation, was thinking more 3 maybe 15 mins.

Again, inconsequential to the plot and game. Also, drop pods are much harder to target with SAM than, say, a landing plane.

Hope i've answered everything, although i've probably missed something
