Keep in mind Chara's the only one in the entire game world other than the player who has memory that extends past even a True Reset, and even beyond that it's the only being that's aware that something external is in control.

Flowey might be an innocent child who got fucked over by the loss of all their emotions and effective immortality for thousands of runs through the same steps, but Chara started out disturbed. Asriel admits that Chara was probably mentally unwell the second it started climbing Ebott, and from there we see evidence of a child who probably had a severely neglectful or abusive childhood. Combine that with what they've been through since, and, well...

Chara might not have been necessarily evil, either. The suicide plan might have been Chara trying to kill two birds with one stone, even: free her new family, maybe the first people who have ever been nice to her, and get rid of the one other thing that is still causing problems for them, i.e. itself, the child who just could not get along. That failed and kicked off the horrible chain of events that leads up to, and probably includes, the events of the game (likely multiple times over, at that).

Chara's appearance in the game could even be a last, desperate attempt to stop the cycle, having witnessed everything he or she had ever done completely ruining everyone and everything he or she ever cared about many, many, many times over. Even if everyone is dead, at least they're not suffering any more, right?

Undyne does condemn you a bit however.

It actually does seem different from most games that make you feel bad for doing bad things in that it never tells to to kill anything. Not killing things is the correct option, and it makes sure to tell you this.

Well, I did all the things afterwards and such.

I've heard that if you do a genocide run the game saves in multiple places so no matter what you do your game will be "tainted" by it, even if you  later do a true pacifist run.

For people who have done that, how serious is the tainting?  Is it major stuff that'll ruin the experience, stuff I'd want to fully delete my save and try again for, or is it just little stuff?
