((Eh, it's ok to cut the slave count with cripples a bit. It would've been unacceptable if the only slaves we got were armless, biting children.... maybe. On a completely unrelated note, Elves exist...
Also, do you think I'm correct in saying you only have borders adjacent to the West Plains and the North Ice Caps?))

Yeah, welcome back. Don't burn yourself out though. We can wait if we have to.

((Probably, yeah. There aren't any crises like a large influx of bandits or mutants so my guess is it's status quo for now. Are the other cities' delegates still at River Hall? It's just a bit strange my delegate has yet to even be acknowledged.))

Name of State: Sapiastan (Literally "Land of Humans")
Not sure if that's intentional or not but Sapiastan would translate as "Land of Wisdom" or "Land of the Wise". "Land of Humans" would be *snickers* Homostan.

Very good argument by escaped lurker. Band of equal size. Also that part about the hissing was hilarious! :D

((Why not have redguard and elves be able to interbreed in the rare chance they dont kill the other?))
((Eh. Just because, really. A proper reason could be genetic incompatibility due to all the genetic engineering that's gone down.))

((I will assume I don't have to worry about anarchists or nomads any more.))
((Which regions border which other regions? Actually, I could probably make a crude paint map if I had the geography of the regions, the location of the Great River, and what regions border what. Are the West Forests North, East, or South of the West Plains for example?))
((Links to the city sheets in the OP would be really helpful too.))
((If someone finds a typo or grammatical error in my city sheet please PM me or post here please. I take pride in my work.))
((How does interbreeding work? My guess is that humans/elves and humans/redguards work, but elves/redguards don't. I also guess that there is an equal chance of the child being one of the two species rather than being a mix of both.))

Diplomatic Interactions
[The Senate of Demestris sends a human delegate to River Hall. She will arrive shortly.]
[Great King Augustus offers Norogoth a Defensive Alliance; if one of the treaty members is attacked, the other will come to their aid. He also asks for Military Access during peacetime between the two city states.]
[Great King Augustus offers to trade food for any fictional, historical, or practical texts.]

Internal Interactions
[The Great King bades the South General to move to the South-West.] (Classified)

((Personally, I think it should be called the River Hall Summit.))
((Based on the information from here and here, I'm guessing that the West Plains are sandwiched with the West Desert to its West and both the West Mountains and the West Forest to the East, both those regions being adjacent to the river. The North Ice Flats I assume are adjacent to the West Desert, West Plains, and West Mountains but not to the West Forest. I will play as if this is correct but I would very much like clarification on the geography of all the Great River regions.))

The Great Kingdom of Demestris

Diplomatic Interactions
[The Senate offers food, temp slave labour, and military assistance to Sigylguard in exchange for silver, children's texts, and texts on philosophy.]
[The Senate also asks for non-military access to the Great River from Sigylguard.]
[The Senate offers fruit juice and beer to the Commonwealth of the Free Peoples in exchange for unmarked slaves and any texts they have.]
[The Great King asks both Sigylguard and the Council of Other what they would like in return for metal.]
[The Great King of Demestris invites delegates from the Council of Other to Demestris Library where they will be allowed to read the texts within. The standard price for foreigners wishing to enter the library of one text each is in effect. Great King Augustus also wishes to build a road connecting the two countries together, as well as negotiating for a Defensive Alliance, joint Military Access between each others lands during peace, and access to the Great River. The Great King himself will be there to receive them and join them in the library.] (Classified)

River Hall Delegation
[The Demestris delegate arrives. She is resplendent in a brilliant white suit with gold trims and an Ezio cape with the same colour scheme hangs over her left arm reaching down to to her wrist. Her hair is raven black and she is adorned with a medium-sized red amulet.]
Greetings fellow diplomats. My name is Rosalina Beirut- Patrician of Demestris, Descendant of Great King Alexander, Emissary to His Royal Highness the Great King Augustus, chosen delegate of the Great Kingdom of Demestris for the River Hall Summit. It is a pleasure to meet you all.

((Proposed interbreeding mechanics:
  • Humans and Elves can breed. Humans and Redguards can breed. Elves and Redguards cannot breed.
  • Any interspecies breeding results in an even chance of the child being from either race. There are no half-elves or half-redguards. Only humans, elves, and redguards.
  • Genetic traits passed down from parent to child are relative to the parent's traits among his or her species. Example: a redguard that's above average in terms of strength relative to other redguards would have a human child that's above average in strength compared to other humans. Another example: an elf with average intelligence would have a human child that has average intelligence when compared to other humans, but not when compared to an elf.))

Found the quote.
The one in the middle is Jorin, his steward, who takes care of his lands and makes sure all taxes are paid and an offering of human blood is given to the higher ranking vampires. The lower ranking ones are content to feed on chicken and goat blood; human blood is only given to them when they win battles, allowing them to feast on hapless villagers caught in their wake.

But at the same time, having our one big food source unhappy and ready to defect the moment we let our guard down? That is one big problem because if they do defect, we would have to waste valuable resources reinstating an area or finding stragglers, while having vampires defect would be bad, not as bad as what could be compared as every supermarket in your town having got up and left.
And all the plants that bared fruit wilted.
You know what I mean.
While fighting a war.
Actually, lower level vampires just get by on chicken and... what was it? Cow? Goat? One of those. Anyway they get by on their blood. Humans give an offering of blood to the higher level vampires and besides that just basically feed themselves with crops and raise animals for blood.
*Quick read through*
Right, so what are the villagers used for, apart from occasional sacrifices?iq
They till the fields to feed themselves and raise chickens and goats. They give the animal blood to the minions and they give some of their own blood to the higher-ups. Humans breed better than vampires. You get 2 humans and you end up with 3 humans. That's a +1 to the amount of animate beings. A vampire and a human and you end up with 2 vampires - zero sum.

EDIT: Also, I don't think the peasants are sacrificed to us. They probably just put a bunch of blood in a bottle or something. A lot more efficient to have a tenth of the blood from 10 peasants each than all the blood from 1 peasant. They get back that extra tenth by the next day but it takes YEARS to get another peasant with the same amount of blood as everyone else if we decide to drink everything and kill one.

It would probably be rather shameful but we could survive on that stuff ourselves if we really had to.

((That is a very good question. I would say that it doesn't legally. However they would be punished in the same way as if they were spreading religion if the philosophies go against the authority of the Great King. The punishment for that is 1 year slavery or 2 years imprisonment 6 months imprisonment. Any other philosophies are fine within reason.))

Spoiler: History of Demestris (click to show/hide)

Demestris foreign policy used to be isolationist but recent actions taken by the Great King have moved it up to a standard policy.

Spoiler: Demestris Library (click to show/hide)

Demestris has next to nothing in the way of modern weaponry, relying on metal armour, swords, spears, shields, bows, and horses instead. This has a great deal to do with the lack of pre-ware relics, advanced science texts relevant to the area, and the total absence of scientists.

Incentive for political mobility is better housing for the person in question and their family, status, and more food. Incentive for joining the military is the same but a pension is thrown in if they reach Third Rank and serve for a further 2 years after they reach it. The retirees are automatically put on reserve and can be called up during times of war.

The only ones allowed to carry arms in the city of Demestris are the First and Second armies. Permission to carry arms is given by the Great King, Senators, high magistrates, and Demestrian diplomats. The punishment for bringing weapons into the city without permission is one month slavery for every weapon.

Demestris is known by some as being the only city-state without ANY scientists. As such, most pre-war technologies used by other cities are unavailable to Demestris. Masonry, agriculture, animal husbandry, textiles, and food preservation are the most advanced technologies available to Demestris. All weapons and armour have been imported from other cities being that foundries and factories are non-existent in Demestris.

Population: ~150,000 citizens, ~200 permanent slaves, ~300 temporary slaves(included in the citizen count)

Production of cotton and other plants related to clothes-making is rather advanced but only on a medium-scale level. Clothes are rather important in Demestrian culture and as such there is a high level of skill in the area.

The Demestris Library is the second most important cultural icon of Demestris, somewhat closely behind the Great King himself.

As a compliment to the cotton industry, sheep herding is the most abundant livestock in Demestris at ~5000 heads. Horses are second at ~4000 including military horses (the number is only so high because of the efforts made by Great King Leonidas), chickens at ~2000, oxen at ~1200, and cows and pigs at ~200 each.
