nah.  i would prefer something closer to roadwar 2000.
i'll still have to wait for that game, i guess.

An non-profit internet library called Internet Archive has released a bunch of old arcade games, free to play in your browser.
Cleverly disguised PTW is a go!

it has bosconian!
i'm in nostalgia heaven.

Still want a proper Mechwarrior game.

yep.  but i think activision owns the rights and they can't do anything right.

i've played every fallout made except the van buren tech demo.

i think new vegas just edges over 3, though 3 is also a great game.
if you can get new vegas with all the dlc, it's even better (adds about 20 hours of content).

nv also hearkens back with some ambient sounds you'll remember from earlier fallout games, and maybe meet an old friend.  so nv is a definite choice if you have played and loved earlier fallout games, especially f2.

if not, both are winners, but i still like the setting of nv over cw.

i enjoyed both kotor games immensely and played them both through multiple playthroughs, and several short starts.

both games are unpolished, kotor 2 more so.  gameplay is basically a series of long corridors and it lets you decide the order of corridors to go through.  the story in both is pretty poor.  moral choices are rather crap.  the "light" side makes you a naive simpleton, and the "dark" side makes you an asshole.

of the two, kotor 2 has the better story, better characters and better voice acting.

kotor 2 can benefit from fan mods, but be careful as some of these can make the game unbeatable (at least it was so for me but this was years ago).

so if you like star wars lore, and want to play as jedi/sith, these are games that should be in your library despite their failures.

i haven't booted up minecraft in a long time, but 1.8 has me interested again.  i'd like to give it a go if the server is free of griefers if you don't mind someone who is practically a noob when it comes to anything past 1.4-ish.

That's quite a shame guys. Well, it worked while it lasted. I wish there was a members only part of the forum so gankers couldn't steal keys :(

a bit more work, but you could just say how many keys you have and people on the forum claim them, you then private email them the key.

That said it's totally possible that the game could be crashing on normal game -> tutorial shenanigans (just not the OS). I'll make a note to look into it when I get the chance.

well i tried it on a disposable laptop with vista installed and it crashes at the same place that it crashed on my win 8 system.  only on the vista, it didn't cause a shutdown.  so it's nothing to do with my computer or bad sectors.  the game crashes on that spot and causes unpredictable events on different systems. [also, on that system, the cpu runs at 100% when the game is actually working and i can't keep it going for more than a few minutes before the cpu gets too hot.]

as soon as someone makes a dune conversion mod for this, i'll put it on my buy it list!

There are two Windows SDL/Ttiles links on that page.

And like it has already been said, the game does nothing to cause this sort of error. It's usually tested to at least being able to start without crashing.

i downloaded the stable version.  whatever you may think about the game doing, it did cause the shutdown.  and it does start without crashing.  this particular crash happened after i started a game, didn't know what was going on, so i exited and went to the tutorial.  the tutorial link crashed to a blank screen then a shut-down after a few seconds.

i must say, this is the only game that has ever sent my computer into a direct shut-down.  took a bit to recover from some file corruptions, but my system survived.  won't be starting it up again though.

Gonna say it was probably your computer and not the game, unless someone really really broke the dragon's back with a particular experimental build. Most likely it was just coincidence this game in particular was opened when it died.

no, it wasn't the computer.  definitely the game.  selected "tutorial" screen blacked out, froze, then a prompt shutdown.

i was using the windows tile set version on full screen.

This was from http://dev.narc.ro/cataclysm/jenkins-latest or https://github.com/CleverRaven/Cataclysm-DDA ?

There's only been one bad experimental in the past few weeks and it ate itself. It did nothing to the OS. You have other problems in your computer.

it was from the site linked to on page 1 of this thread.
http://en.cataclysmdda.com/

windows sdl/tiles link.

and i know computers well enough to know it was the game that caused it and not some other background task.

there are no other problems in my computer.  nothing causes a shut down event without my say so.

This launches tonight! So who is the guinea pig has this pre-ordered?

I have my copy pre-ordered and pre-loaded. I don't expect to get much sleep tonight. :)

it looks like an unfinished civ v mod with planned dlc to 'complete' the game.
let us know if this is the case.
