I'm getting some oddities with the latest LNP (42.06) with the Ironhand Graphics pack.
My bridges appear to be made of odd tiles like stools and stuff.
There are two 1x3 bridges on the left of this image.

Is it possible to disable certain songs in Sound Sense?
There are a few of them that drive me nuts (Mostly the Sims music) because it makes me think of other games and kills the mood for me.

Anyone know how to do this?

Good to know for future fortresses when this one inevitably becomes too much FUN for me to handle.

Well, I'll just feel good then about never having managed to get into the Training Wheels Mode before. I'm playing hardcore apparently with using trees instead of LIQUID FIRE to fuel my workshop.

:)
I started a separate thread to ask about how to get that magma working for me.

DF Gameplay Questions / How Does Magma?
« on: October 09, 2015, 11:21:05 am »
Okay, I found a pool of Magma about 20 layers down. Sadly, it's on the opposite corner of the map from where my fortress is. I have never successfully gotten a dwarven machine running before, so I have no idea how to pump it anywhere.

What do I do? How should I proceed? Do I dig out a cistern for magma under my fortress then go channel to it and let it fill up? Using a magma-safe rock to floodgate it? Can I then pump it up to my workshops? I don't know how to set up a pump.

What would you do with this? Any tips/advice?

Thanks for the info. I think I get it.

@Daris: I've tried and tried and tried to get a good embark with a volcano.  I never see more than 1 or 2 sites with a volcano on a given world if that. They usually have NO TREES or when I get embarked, I can't find the volcano vent. :/ I've yet to successfully utilize Magma. Since I appear to have found a vent this embark, I guess I'll try to.

Okay thanks guys.

I used DFHack to check the map and I don't find any sedement. So I'm going to rely on wood (I have a wooded area so no problem there).
There is a magma area on my map not tooo far down actually... but it says "open space Magma 7/7" and it goes down down down down deep. Is that just like a huge hole over a magma bit somewhere down there?

I have never found magma before so I have no idea how to use it. What I have to do to use it even.

I managed to make the picks! The issue was I'd ordered iron picks. I changed it to copper picks since I had galena and tetrahedrite (one of those is copper... I think the latter...) And so now I have picks and the mandate is solved.
She didn't have a weird fetish, just wanted more miners I suppose.

But now I have no iron so I'll have to buy iron stuff from the caravans.
I guess I'll focus on my textiles and food industry for dwarfbucks. :D

So how do I utilize that magma then... That's next!

DF Gameplay Questions / Finding Sedimentary Layer?
« on: October 08, 2015, 01:06:50 am »
I was wondering where I should find the sedimentary layer?
I have a fortress that is in sand/clay layers for the first two floors, then it hits Gneiss, then a ton of marble and that goes down into a cavern I can't currently get through because there's a huge amount of water down there and I'm not outfitted for opening the cavern yet.

I am currently digging about the map to see if there is any sedimentary layer stuff in other areas of my map...
I really like this embark and I'd hate to abandon it, but if there's no coal I can't make metal stuff... And my mayor has already mandated that I make picks... sucks.

Any help would be appreciated...

I am also getting the flickering. I thought I'd ignore it... but I'm not sure I can. It's driving me nuts.
I'm going to have to go back to the r7 version I had before. I just can't look at this screen with all the flickering. It gave me a migraine last night.

I tried the Print Mode thing and it didn't work. :c And I only posted to report this fact and hope it was helpful. ^^

I made a new fortress and tried to set it up and it still doesn't work, so it's not just my save. :c

DF Gameplay Questions / Workflow Not Working. Help please?
« on: March 11, 2015, 10:42:55 am »
I am running LNP 40.24.

I have workflow enabled on the DFHACK window so it launches with the game. I have DFHACK confirmed working (or at least it responds to commands in the window). But when I set a repeating task then click alt+W nothing happens. I can't get the workflow plugin to actually respond. Anyone have any idea on what's wrong?

Workflow folder is in plugins where it belongs. I haven't done anything to it. When I first loaded the game, it was suspending jobs instead of cancelling, and now it's not. :c If I type workflow into DFHACK it responds with the Workflow commands and those respond. (i.e. "Workflow enable" returns "The plugin is enabled."
But alt+w does nothing and I don't see the text on a workshop page that says "Go to workflow" or whatever it was that it said there (Can't remember right now but there's only default text)

The "Simple Start" embark profile has three picks, and the others come with the materials to make picks. When I made the ones with starting materials, I imagined them as 'intermediate' profiles. I'm in the middle of reworking mine after a thread on Reddit pointed some problems out recently (I don't think any of them are good for new players. The "simple Start," which comes with the equipment from the old profile with a similar name, doesn't have an anvil.) The real problem is that my profiles are the only ones in the pack at the moment. I continue to encourage and hope other folks to submit them for the pack, as I really enjoy trying others ideas.

Oh hi you. That was totally my thread. >_<
I ended up doing the Simple start this time and I added an anvil to it (after I figured out how to remove enough stuff to get it to show up) and I felt it was a pretty good start. I had most things I needed. My civ lacked bitimous coal o_o of all things... so I had to get lignite?(sp?) but I still don't know how to work a smelter.

That said, I'd say it was good for a starting profile. I had to adjust skills a little with DT but it was partly because I wanted more people mining early on. Overall a good place to start tho. :)
