Curses / Re: 4.07.4- Recuitment not working.
« on: October 10, 2014, 11:05:51 am »
*There are a few occasions, when meetings are automatically cancelled :
** The Recruiter is at the Hospital
** The Recruiter has been arrested
** The Recruiter is inside a besieged Safehouse

* When you talk with people about politics, this is not the same than aranging a meeting. Talking about politics has three possible outcomes :
** "Do you wan't to hear something Disturbing ? - No" The recruiter failed terribly. Other Squadmembers can try again, the recruitee stays on the level. No meeting sheduled
** "Do you wan't to hear something Disturbing ? - What - Blablabla - Whatever (turns away)" The recruiter failed closly. The recruitee stays on the level, but won't talk anymore. No meeting sheduled
** "Do you wan't to hear something Disturbing ? - What - Blablabla - This is disturbing ... <recruitee> aggrees to come by later tonight" The recruiter succeded. The recruitee is removed from the level, and a meeting is sheduled.

* If a recruiter has more than six meetings arranged, he may miss meetings. You get a notice about that.

* Does the time advance normally ? Every time you press 'W' in the safehouse menu, the day should advance. There is alway one recruitment attemp per day per recruitee, so if you wan't to retry without raiding something, you must simply press 'W'. Possible solutions why days don't advance :
** If the game crashes, you have to repeat the same day. (usually during elections)
** If a safehouse is raided, you can't wait, until the siege is resolved. Select the safehouse by pressing 'Z' until you find it, and then press 'F'
** If the time still doesn't advance, it may be a bug

Curses / WHat causes the Crash during Elections ?
« on: October 04, 2014, 05:45:16 pm »
In the "stabile" release, it may happen, that game crashes during elections. Why does this happen ?

After looking at POLITICS.CPP, the line 575 looks suspicious, as it accesses the array canlaw[] without verifying, that its size is nonzero. The algorithm from lines 561 to 565 may produce this result, if all priorities are zero. The acces, to an uninitialized memory location in canlaw[] may read a value, that is out of range in the law array (assuming int is 32bit VERY MUCH out of range). The actual change of the law then causes acces out of the array with the laws. Appearendly, the C-compiler inserts a BOUND instruction before accesing the array, that results in the processor generated interrupt number 5, that has no handler inside LCS and is intecepted by the operation system.

If this assumtion were true, the following questions rise :
* Why does it happen so deterministic ? If you start the game again, the RND should return different values for the mood (lines 534-537), so it shouldn't happen, that it is unavoidable.
* Is it possible to change this in the single day, you have before the elections ? I tried, to raid a location and burn a flag, but it didn't work.
* Is it possible to avoid this by commiting certain actions on the days, before the elections (for example raiding the court hous to affect free speech ?)
* Is there a way, to see it coming from public opinion ? (for example people concerned about CCS terrorists, as there is no law about them)

Curses / Re: Any Use For A Casino?

What is robbing an Bank against founding a Bank ? --Berthold Brecht

Another Idea : Let the player invest in a safehouse, and found a casino. Of course, for actually making a profit you must assign liberals a "casino staff" activity. Send some other prostituting, and the LCS is literally financed by Blackjack and Hookers.

Combine this, with the "running for presdident" YANI, and the President of the USA is an ex-terrorist, now working as a pimp, who finaces his campaign from a casino with an unmatching front, that was formerly a crack-house.

Assuming, conservative implies religious, they should actually oppose gambling. Casino staff could still be flagged as conservative in the meaning of hostile. This is in analogy with the gang members at the crack house, who also shouldn't be politically conservative. This however raises the question, what publicity it should yield, if you raid it.

The illegality of gambling could influence the way how they react on cheating. If it's illegal (conservative), they beat you up for cheating in blackjack, if it's legal(liberal), they call the police and charge you for fraud or something.

Skills for playing Blackjack and Poker are different. Counting in Blackjack doesn't need more than primary school's math skills (assuming you looked up the strategy and didn't invent it yourself), so science shouldn't matter. What it needs is a good short time memory, that is influenced, by the intelligence stat and not a certain skill. Maybe hippies should get a penalty for beeing stoned. If you win by counting, there should also be a street sence or disguise check to see, if you get caught.

Poker on the other hand, benefits from higher math (science). On the number of cards, seen, you can determine the dynamic probability of all possible outcomes. Theese probabilities are often seen in TV poker mathes, and one with significant skill could calculate them himself (thought the probailities are different than in TV, as you can't see the other's cards).  Another (possibly more important) aspect of poker, is to keep concealed whether you have good or bad cards (disguise), and possible seeing if other have good or bad cards (psychology). Professions, who can be assumed to be very emotional could get a penalty, maybe teenager, canine hero, hippie, fashion designer, critics, car salesman, fast food worker, hick, news anchor.

Giving hippies penalties in gambling has also a gameplay-wise benefit, as they are easy to recruit, so it prevents you from winning money too early.

Veterans get 1d100 juice (CREATURETYPE.CPP, line 612), so there is a 1:1 chance they can recruit. If they have below 50 juice, you can simply fire them. They can't rat you out, if their recruiter isn't wanted.(REVIEWMODE.CPP, line 645)

Army Veterans start with extra juice, so they can recruit others, without commiting crimes. It should thus be possible, to get a large number of writers for the liberal guardian by only recruiting army veterans. They can be found at the university appartments. This is however very tedious, as you have to let them talk to hippies a lot to raise their persuation, and on a conservative public opinion, it takes long, to find liberal or moderate army veterans.

If you just want to avoid murder, you can kill monsters at the genetic lab, who don't count as human. Getting out without fighting security guards can however be tricky.

1. Actually, everyone is treated as bisexual, as they can pick up and be picked up by people of any gender. Get your terminology sorted.
2. You're spouting laughably homophobic bullshit.
3. And transphobic bullshit.
4. And basically you sound like an ignorant douchecanoe and I kind of pity you because you're so clearly wrong.
5. I'm not going to respond further than this, because you're pretty clearly a lost cause. Have fun with your backwards views!

OK, Lielac, I am not sure if that was sarcasm/trolling, but I will treat it as serious:
1. I really mixed up homo- and bi- sexuality, sorry if that offended someone.
2. Calm down please, this is just a game. Why are you Americans so freaked out if someone mentions that topic ? I saw the same reaction as someone introduced a transvestite patch to NetHack, but your reaction is egregious. And considering the whole violence in LCS,Nethack and almost every videogame, that topic really should not cross the line. Especially considering LCS deals with the very topic of politics.
3. Why am I homophobic and backward ? If someone is homophobic or backward, then the (fictional) conservatives in the game, but not me. Again this is just a game.
4. Most people in real-life are not homo- or bi- sexual. Maybe many people tolerate homosexuality, but this is not the same than beeing it.
5. Many people in real life do react aggravated on homsexual seduction attempts, even if they otherwise support gay rights.
6. Homicide of transsexuals does happen in real life. This does neither mean that its good, nor that I support it, this just means, that it does happen.

An easy way to nerf seduction and make the game more realistic is, only permitting (succesful) seduction, if both have a different sex. The game currently treats everybody as homosexual, that isn't only extreme unrealistic, it also should get you arrested if homosexuality is at C+.

Imagine, a male fashion designer drops a pickup line to a male death squad officer when homosexuality, police beahaviour and death penalty are all at C+. What could possibly go wrong ...

I always assumed this were true, considring homosexuality is one of the issues you can influence, but neither TALK.CPP nor DATE.CPP check for sex.

This could even be more elaborated, by giving some persons a homosexual flag - a very small percentage, to be realistic - and allow to blackmail homosexual conservatives if homosexuality is at C/C++. This would also balance the game, in a similar way than gun control, as it makes the game more difficult if laws are liberal.

If a transvestite (liberal gender femal, actual gender male) tries to seduce a man, there should also be chance, that he is killed by his enraged date. This often happens to tranvestites in real life.

Curses / How to conquer a lost safehouse ?
« on: September 23, 2014, 12:38:21 pm »
While playing LCS it may happen, that that the CCS raids your safehouses, and conquers them. If it was a warehouse, it then shows up as CCS safehouse and can be raided, but there seems to be no way to conquer it.

There is code, to conquer a CCS safehouse if you kill an Arch-conservative / CCS Boss / Hardened Veteran, but theese guys never show up in warehouses. They only show up in siege units or in original CCS safehouses. I explored the whole warehouse, but neither did one show up as an encounter nor is there a special tile.

A certain amount of killed vigilantes also doesn't work. I killed lots of them, but i didn't work nor is there anything in the source code.

Increasing the crime like in the crackhouse also doesn't work, because it checks for RENTING_NOCONTROL, that doesn't work because it has RENTING_CSS, and locations with RENTING_CSS only have code to out sleepers.

After all, it seems to me, that this is a bug, because CCS Bosses as random encounters were commented out, but there is no special tile in safehouses conquered by the CCS or other way to conquer it.

Further, I found another bug. If a liberal is in hospital, and his safehouse is conquered by the CCS, he returns to the safehouse, and becomes a pseudo sleeper (mapping the location). It would make more sense, to send him to the homeless shelter if the location isn't anymore under LCS control.
