Or for making beds more comfy, like a shell or bone decoration on furniture.
This is a chicken feather pillow. All craftdwarfship is of the highest quality. It is encircled with bands of softness and menaces with spikes of comfort.

The one time I pump stacked through a cavern I had the militia guard the area while my masons walled it off so nothing could get in and destroy the stack.

Or you could just let the children roam free and natural selection will take care of them.

Locked doors will stop them unless they have the [BUILDING DESTROYER] tag.
Raised drawbridges will stop anything as they're treated as walls when raised, and walls are currently indestructible regardless of material.
You can hold back a dragon with a soap drawbridge if you want.

If they do somehow get loose either sick the militia on them or set up the prison level to flood with water or magma at the pull of a lever.

Price display is determined by your Broker's Appraisal skill only.

For the first caravan:
Set anyone may trade, request trader.
Dwarf arrives, open trade screen, dwarf picks up a couple levels in Appraisal.
Close trade screen, appoint that dwarf Broker.
You can now view prices for goods, regardless of who is actually doing the trading.

Bah, i've never differenciated between man and woman for my military. If you are stupid enogh to bring your baby in the middle of a battle, it simply means that your genes are not suited for the cruel world of DF. Natural selection.

Moreover, it causes a lot of !!FUN!! and creates beautiful stories of murder and revenge!
This.
Also I just can't be bothered going through and checking my dwarves genders and relationships.

Dwarf Therapist.
I never use therapist, also it would still cull my recruitment pool from "useless dwarves" to "useless dwarves with no chance of ever having children"

Also...
Women only carry babies for a couple of years, after that the toddlers starting chilling in the meeting hall working on their fort domination skills.
From the Wiki:
Most creatures, including dwarves, start out as infants, then after a certain number of years become children, and then finally become adults. For dwarves, childhood starts after reaching one year of age, and continues until age twelve.

They only carry them for a year, and with how sparse sieges are these days chances are there won't even be a battle during the time the baby is being carried around.

All the most dangerous animals will show up in savage biomes, some exclusively.
This wiki page might be able to help you.

Define "Savage"
If you want to get rid of dangerous animals try reducing the large animals criteria when you generate your world.

DF Gameplay Questions / Re: Expedition Leader/Mayor election?
« on: December 15, 2014, 08:50:58 am »
I had a new mayor elected with no friends.  On his relationship screen he had one pet and two deities that was it.  The out going mayor had pages of friends.  Thought it was odd.
I've had that happen, he was a new migrant who had just shown up to the fortress.

Usually though I end up with members of my militia passing the title around, which I find weird as they are never idle, they have a year round always active training schedule.
If their not fighting their training, if their not training their eating/sleeping/drinking.
When are they finding time to socialise?

By the way, can legendary climbers climb a glass wall? If not then I will replace my walls with glass ones as well.
I imagine they would be treated the same as any other wall built of blocks, but I'm not certain.

From the wiki:
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Although this could all be moot as fortifications are supposed to be unclimbable, so ringing the top of the wall with those should stop climbers in their tracks.

Glass is amazing, there are a great many merits to its name:
If you have sand and magma you can generate infinite amounts of it.
Quality glass trap components sell for game breaking amounts.
It's magma safe and you can produce pumps, bridges, doors and hatches out of it.
It can also be used for windows and cut into gems.
Green glass has a x2 value multiplier, Clear glass has a x5, and Crystal glass a x10, making it a cheap and easy way to mass produce quality rooms.

Whips are pretty OP.
Whenever I manage to get a master lasher I find they chip bone with pretty much every shot.
