You can put me down for another turn if/when we run out of new people or people who were ahead of me wanting to take a 2nd turn.

212
Also sieges now are pulled from entity populations, whereas previously they were generated from thin air. So in prior versions, a goblin civ that was down to its last 10 members could still throw a 100 goblin siege at you every year, while in the current version, you're unlikely to ever see a goblin from that civ.

Everything NCommander said fits with what I'd heard before. But I hadn't found any posts actually verifying (either through testing in game or by digging around in memory/binary files) that none of the other tokens had any effect on the justice system in current (.40.xx) versions. So yeah, the test confirmed that things worked how I expected, rather than how I hoped.

Sieges work fine (albeit differently than in previous versions). the DFHack command to trigger a siege hasn't worked for any .40.xx version.

DF General Discussion / Re: Dwarf fortress in Poland

"DF multi-player" takes 2 basic forms. The community fortress, where a group of people make suggestions or discuss what to do, but only one person is actually at the controls. And the succession fortress, where people take turns being at the controls.
And then there is DFTerm. Few years ago we in Russian DF community had a lot of fun with it, though it has few problems and needs to be tweaked to work with latest version.

DFTerm (and similar things like webfort) essentially just provide a convenient way to do what are essentially succession forts without having to pass a save around.

Mango Chili is their best current flavor. I liked the Jalapeņo ones back when they made them, though not as much as the mango chili. Really though, I've liked most of the flavors they've ever done that weren't intended to be gross (and even a couple that were, like black pepper)

Wanna play together?

I'm not Polish, but that question intrigued me. Can you play this game with other players?
Excluding community fortresses, I don't believe so, no.

As to the original topic, I am not Polish. But these forums seem to attract posters from all over the world, so I'd be surprised if the OP is the only person in Poland who reads these forums.

Correct, that GCS are not trapavoid. And a diagonal that crosses Z-levels is the most likely culprit for how it got in, if you've looked for diagonal breaches. The ones that cross Z-levels can be hard to spot.

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: Site Accessibility
« on: April 27, 2015, 11:58:56 am »
For caravans, being listed in the neigbors screen is generally sufficient. Sieges actually path from a site of their civ to your fortress, and path around lakes, oceans, and mountains. So even if they are within 30 world tiles, if no path 30 tiles (or shorter) exists from one of their sites to your fortress, you won't get sieges. It's also worth noting that sieges are pulled from entity populations, while caravans still don't seem to be. So a civ with hardly any population left will still send caravans, but won't send sieges even if you're right next door to one of their sites.

So I ran a fort with all of the [KILL_{something}] ethics set to [PUNISH_CAPITAL]. So far, I haven't gotten any sieges so I can't say whether it will work for [KILL_ENEMY], but my dwarves happily kill animals, chop down trees, and kill elven traders/diplomats, without any crimes showing up in the justice screen or anyone getting a visit from the hammerer.

The only observed effect in fortress mode of setting [ETHIC:KILL_PLANT] or [ETHIC:KILL_ANIMAL] to [PUNISH_CAPITAL] is that if I offer any items containing leather or wood to the dwarven caravan, they get pissy and leave, refusing to trade any more until next visit. The caravans still bring leather, meat, and wooden items for trade. And my hunters still hunt, butchers still slaughter, and woodcutters still cut trees.

When the elven traders came, I recruited an unskilled dwarf into the militia and had him attack an elven trader. Once the fight started I disbanded the squad, and my civilians dogpiled the elf. Eventually one of my miners got a killing shot. The dwarves happily went about the business afterward, and no crime was registered as having been committed.

Has modifying the ethics in an existing save been confirmed to work? I know that changes to entities are one of the things that almost always requires generating a new world to take effect.

A Japanese company makes a radish wine (from daikon, a Japanese radish variety) which is reportedly pretty good, though I haven't had the opportunity to try it myself. Information here

If nobody else has done it yet, I'll start a fort this weekend with all of KILL_ANIMAL, KILL_ENEMY, KILL_ENTITY_MEMBER, and KILL_NEUTRAL at PUNISH_CAPITAL, to try and check whether or not each of those results in a visit from the hammerer.

If you want to be fairly sure of seeing goblins in the current version, you pretty much have to check legends before choosing where to embark. For example, I once generated a world with 3 goblin civs. Just looking at the embark map, they looked fairly similar in size. But in legends mode, it could be seen that one of them had 15 sites and about 13k goblins, one had 11 sites and about 9k goblins, while the 3rd had 13 sites and 57 goblins. If I embarked near either of the first two, I got regular sieges. But if I embarked near the 3rd, I never saw a goblin at all.

DF Gameplay Questions / Re: Armor question

My general uniform for melee soldiers is one each of leather shirt, mail shirt, breastplate, leather trousers, greaves, high boots, gauntlets, helm, hood, cloak. If metal is in short supply, I may initially make some of those pieces out of bone/shell. But the long term goal will be to get all of the plate pieces in steel and the mail shirt in either steel or candy.
