DF Suggestions / Re: Procedural Gender Systems
« on: December 05, 2014, 02:53:42 pm »
Definite no from me.  I find the lack of gender roles incredibly refreshing, and besides, gender roles would remind me of how, because of my religion, I feel personably culpable for everything bad in the world.  I play this game to distract myself from that little problem.

Honestly, if it became a feature, I'd probably stop playing.

It's definitely not k.  You can also look up the slabs in the stocks screen and check them from there (press tab to show individual items).

How old is your world?

Pretty young, 150 years tops.

I have an unmarried dwarf mom who's got no father listed for her son, and indeed no husband at all, living or dead.

Should I be on the lookout for a kid walking across the stream like it's nothing?

He would briefly grovel for mercy before demanding three crystal glass statues, an entourage of trained war yetis, and the demise of that insufferable douche who just so happens to be your only legendary weaponsmith.

WWUD if she had to deal with monthlies?

DF Gameplay Questions / Single Mom Dwarf
« on: December 05, 2014, 07:33:27 am »
Ms. Tobul Saviordoor, Talented Shearer, arrived at my fair fortress of Mirrorcurl a little over a year ago.  With her she brought her young son, Inod Roofstone.

What she didn't bring was her husband...for she does not have one.  When I go to her relationship screen, there is no husband listed, nor is there a father listed for little Inod.

Is this kid the result of divine intervention, or was Mr. Saviordoor an irresponsible cad?  More importantly, is she eligible to marry?

Check the other combatants for kills.  One of them may have struck a blow that wasn't immediately fatal but caused the victim to bleed out or suffocate or something.

I pictured them as having quadrupedal dog-like bodies, nubby ears, and small, cat-like muzzles.

The only way dwarves could consume catnip is for tea.  Tea is for elves.

Why haven't dwarves discovered cordials yet?

I still snicker whenever I get an "ass fiend".  The best one was associated with beauty and inspiration.

It gets aerated whenever the cave crocodiles swim in it.

Why can't we butcher giant sponges and use the pieces for more effective cleaning?

You can turn off all cancel notices from the orders screen, if you don't mind possibly missing something important.  The baby communes you're speaking of have definitely been done before - someone here has a link in his signature.  I believe the title is something along the lines of "kinder, gentler dwarven child care".  I personally take a free-range approach to child care, but I just started playing with invasions on and I have yet to deal with goblin snatchers.

DF Suggestions / Re: Make gelding more general
« on: December 03, 2014, 07:43:22 pm »
Neutering would really be a better word for it, but I guess gelding sounds more genteel?  C'mon, "neutering" was family-friendly enough to use in Petz 4!  Also the reason a lot of creatures aren't geldable is that said creatures don't have their dangly bits on the outside, so neutering them would be major surgery, not unlike spaying.

Guys.  Guys.

...What if Armok is a woman and we just didn't notice?
