Mister T looks at Tiana and Veikko, and for a short instant seems almost sorrowful.

"I apologise, in attempting to explain things adequately for Miss Anna I may have neglected my other students.

He walks over to the board, and with a quick flourish, a simple animation plays out.

It shows a young boy with a wizard hat attempting to cast a spell which eliminates everyone in the vicinity's ability to use magic - including his own - and failing. He casts the same spell again, but this time making sure to stay outside its radius. As his opponent loses the ability to cast magic, he smiles.

"You could cast a spell that took away your ability to use magic, but it would have to be on a timer, rather than something you could end at will."

152
Averly might notice that his name was already ticked on the board to indicate attendence.

Mr. T. looks at Anna and shakes his head.

"The amount of time in which the spell might theoretically exist is positive zero, utterly infinitesimal. It is impossible to tell whether it has been cast or not because even the most sensitive of measuring devices or techniques cannot detect anything occurring. Thus, the distinction between a failed cast and a successful cast that lasts for the smallest length of time it is possible for something to ever exist for is not made, and we say that it is impossible. It is potentially feasible that one day something shall be discovered that will alter this law, maybe it will even be you that discovers it? But, no such thing has happened yet. As to your attempts to equate magic and physics, you will quickly find that they do not work. At the utmost, you might say that magic supersedes physics. You are stretching physics to include Magic, rather than placing Physics as a derivation of magic. Much like how Chemistry is a derivation of Physics, and Biology is a derivation of Chemistry, Physics may be said to be a derivation of Magic and Mathematics, although that is likely far too complicated for a first year class. The answer to your question, as well, is that..." he grins, at least as much as a bird can grin "It depends on the magic."

153
Mr. T. makes a hand gesture that indicates "mostly."

"In that specific example, the immovable object and the unstoppable force - if they were truly what they were said to be - would simply not interact with each other at all. The force would remain unstopped, the object unmoved. This is why I am unhappy with how I have worded the second law. However, be that as it may, you are close to correct. Magic may break many perceived laws of reality - that matter cannot be created or destroyed, that energy in a closed system cannot increase - but even magic cannot create a true paradox. Take, for example, a spell that decreases the magical power of whomever it affects by fifty "points" until the spell is cancelled. The caster of that spell has sixty points, and it takes thirty for them to sustain it... That person could not use such an ability on themselves."

He stops walking back and forth and instead stands by the board once more.

"This is probably the most bland of the laws, but it is important to remember that if you were ever to use a spell in a way that made it internally conflicting, it would simply fail. Are there questions?"

154
"Dimension. Is that what they call the place you live?"

Alex whispers to Relspi.

"Don't worry about it, I'll explain later if you like."

155
Mr. T. gives everyone a moment to ask their questions, seemingly not caring in the slightest about the short argument that had occurred between the students.

"So the Big Bang also produced magical energy?

... So magic is actually physics regular people don't know about yet?"

"The Big Bang, though it would be more accurate to call it the Big Expansion, is one of several plausible theories for the creation of this universe. If it indeed did so, then perhaps magic came with it... Or perhaps there was something else out there, something older, that is the source of magic. As to whether or not it's actually physics regular people don't know about..." he indicates that the answer is no. "Physics is physics, magic is magic. They interact with each other, sometimes heavily, but they are ultimately not the same thing."

"Anyway, Proffesor, could i please turn over this sheet of paper now?"

To Akbar's question, the teacher smiles, as much as a bird can smile anyway.

"As to whether you can turn over that sheet of paper, there is nothing stopping you from doing so. You have been able to from the start. Whether turning it over is what you should do, however... Is for you to decide."

After speaking, he indicates towards once again, and the words "2. Magic cannot conflict with itself" are etched on the board, beneath the previous law.

"And here we are, the second law. I'm not quite happy with how this one is worded, but you will learn it all the same. This is both a magical law and a law of logic, perhaps one of the very few laws of logic that magic obeys. Your guesses for the last one were very accurate. How will they be for this one, I wonder?"

Very well then, I'll +1 that.

158
kanoguti If you want to leave the game, no point in being rude.

UXZL Who will you use your power on tonight and why?

Jack's replacement, though I honestly can't say for sure until after whomever is lynched flips. Mostly because that slot would be devastating if it was scum, and also because it seems likely for the seeming most trusted player to be the one to perform nightkills if they're scum.

Emilia, noticing Wen-Tsu's slight withdrawal, understands that her short time as a guard had drawn to a close. Performing an acrobatic leap to crash through the window, she moves like swift wind towards the shadow monster's side, a single silver crescent slash to rend the darkness and cleave its neck in twain.

Emilia to a location adjacent the shadow being.
Basic attack, two-handed.

Potentially. All 'dem Ts.

Mr. T. begins slowly walking back and forth in front of the class.

"All of you are touching on it, some very closely but not quite exactly. What it fundamentally means is that "wild magic" does not exist... In a certain manner of speaking. Every bit of magic out there originated from somewhere, from actual things or events. Be it an ancient mage millennia ago performing a ritual, a special crystal formed in an azure cave, or certain notes of music that resonated with the earth. It can be easy for it to appear that magic spontaneously erupted from nothingness, and you'd be surprised how many people make that assumption... Yet it does not happen. It is worth keeping in mind, because it is far easier to dispel something at its origination than wherever its effects might appear. Logically speaking it might follow that every instance of magic or magical energy in the universe can be traced back to a single, primordial source... But of that," shaking his head, the blue suited bird continues "Even I am not sure."

He pauses momentarily.

"Are there any questions before I move on to the second law?"

163
Alex commits the first law to memory. He was about to raise his hand and say something based off one of the laws of thermodynamics, but fairly quickly realises that would be a bit silly. Better to stay silent and let the other people, those more familiar with this sort of thing, answer instead. He would just watch, and learn.

UXLZ: I'm interested to see your N1 result too.

The irritating thing about there being an anarchist is that every investigation last night was basically useless. I got a "town" result, and my abilities weren't reset. All this really means is that there is at least one other town person in the game (no idea who it is), or Tiruin is lying but Town (or with a camouflage ability.)

Like a windup toy that had suddenly been released, Mr T's hands (which had previously been situated clasped behind his back) lazily drift out in front of him before snapping together together to create a loud and echoing clap.

"Time is up, ladies, gentleman, mystical creatures, eldritch abominations, and undefined. The lesson will continue."

Once more animated, he writes on the black board the words "Three Laws" with a black feathered quill, the letters glowing in the same flaming blue ink.

"Those of you already familiar with the magical world should know something of these - if admittedly often presented in another way. Long nursery rhymes or bloated lists are quite common" he says, waving dismissively, "Regardless, while they are unlikely to be of much consequence in your day to day life, it is important to foster an understanding of the force which you all wield."

Simultaneously to his speaking, "1. Magic must always have a source." is etched into the board by an unseen hand.

"Magic, must always have a source" Mr. T. states after it has finished being written. "An odd phrase to be sure, but can anyone hazard a guess as to what exactly it means?"
