Forum Games and Roleplaying / Vault Quest (interest check)
« on: May 13, 2015, 02:16:48 pm »
I was wondering if anyone would be interested in playing a game where you each control a member of a party of adventurers who are questing to kill a demon. This game will take place mostly in adventure mode with a few large scripted battles taking place in arena mode. You guys will decide where you want to go, what you want to pick up, etc. The map will have one vault in it (your end goal) and a few player fortresses with some "goodies" in them. I will use df-hack a lot to create items and bodyswap to manage the other characters. In travel stages, I will control the player you guys vote to be the leader, but in battles, I will use bodyswap to a nearby bug or something and let the battle take place independently.

What do you think?
What questions do you have?
Also, do you think this should be under the Dwarf Fortress Game board? Or this one?

Mafia / Vengeful Mafia X: Game over, Town wins.
« on: May 04, 2015, 04:46:44 pm »
The time has come for the Aztec people to sacrifice to the gods. The whole city gathers as five captured prisoners-of-war are brought to the temple. and the gate is shut. Tradition dictates that only 2 of the 5 need to be sacrificed, but the Priests have spoken to the gods and discovered that one of the five prisoners was a rebellious king in disguise. And another was his trusted servant. The Gods said that they would be pleased if only the King was sacrificed, so the priests gave the prisoners a bargain. The prisoners were told that they would get to choose which one would be sacrificed, and if the king was sacrificed, the rest would be set free. The 5 prisoners stared at each other. The air was tense.

Vengeful Mafia is simple.

Setup:
*1 mafia godfather
*1 mafioso
*3 vanilla townies

Rules are the standard (no PMs, use red to vote, etc.) except for the following:

*Day ends on hammers only, with one exception: if the game gets to a point of four players (by hanging the mafioso on day one), and three of the remaining four cannot achieve consensus, I will end the day if 48 hours have gone by without a vote change, and the person with the majority votes will be lynched.
*The game is nightless.  There is no mafiakill.
*Upon death, a player must post their Role PM, unmodified except for removing the scumbuddy and scumchat link.
*If a townie is lynched D1, they get to immediately vengekill a player of their choice.  Vengekills should be in red.  Talking between the lynch and the vengekill is allowed, but discouraged.  Once the kill's done, the game immediately proceeds to D2.
*If the godfather is lynched (not vengekilled), town instantly wins.

Lurking:
Post at least once per 24 hours (weekends counts as 0 hours).  Lurkers will be prodded for 24 hours away, and modkilled for 48 hours without posting.

Players (5/5):
Jack A T: VT
TheDarkStar: Mafia Godfather (lynched day 2)
Deus Asmoth: Mafia goon (lynched day one)
roo: VT
Peradon: VT

Replacements (1/5)

This is an ISG that I have no directed plot to go down. Everything that will happen will be completely my inspiration and your recommendations. What I do know, is that your character will get into many impossible situations, but, he won't... ever... die. Try to keep your actions humanly possible, but other than that, be as creative as you like.

You put your hands up in surrender. The Battle is over and the enemy has caught you. You are destined to live the rest of your short life in the torture chambers these people were famous for. There is nothing you can do. Or is there...

FTL: Federation Command
Spoiler: exposition (click to show/hide)

This is a playthrough of FTL Advanced Edition where the Federation Command (you guys) will make several decisions for me. These decisions include:
-Which ship to pick
-What to buy at shops
-and which sector to jump to next

Each update will see me play until I reach a shop, or until I reach the "exit" beacon and decide to move on. I am playing with a few more rules for role-playing purposes and to make the game more interesting.

Rules for myself:
1. At the start, one crew member will be named origamiscience. He is the only one allowed to man the pilot subsystem.
2. If Origamiscience dies, the game is over. Dying and being cloned does not count, the game will go on. (The exception is if I run into the nano virus event)
3. I may only upgrade systems at shops and with the Federation Command's permission. (The exception is if I get an event offering to upgrade systems. That is fine)
4. Normal mode.

Rules for you guys:
1.If you want to have a crewmember named after yourself, post: Request crew member: [name]
2. For Federation Command decisions, check to see if someone has already recommended your decision. In that case, +1 the quote.
3. Do logical things. Don't purposefully make me fail.
4. I am sure more rules will come.

Available Characters:
[none]

Character Request Queue:
BFEL the Slug (slug)

Without further ado, Which ship shall I start out with? I have all of them unlocked.

Dwarf Fortress Arena Deathmatch!!!

This is a gladiator-type deathmatch where each player creates a dwarf and pits their character in the arena mode with 3 other players' dwarves. 4 dwarves enter, one dwarf leaves.

Each Player may customize their dwarf by giving it skills and equipment. Each skill and piece of equipment costs a certain amount of points. You start out with 500 points. Your dwarf may only have 2 items equipped in his or her hand.
Spoiler: points list (click to show/hide)

Once 4 gladiators are made, they will fight to the death in arena mode with the winner getting a point bonus for each enemy defeated (more on that later) and will participate in the next battle (with revised equipment if wanted and all injuries healed) If a dwarf manages to win 5 battles, they will become the champion and get their name in the hall of fame. Any other dwarf that wins 5 matches will face off against the champion for the position. If your dwarf dies, feel free to make another one!

Bonus points will be determined by how many wins each combatant has. A 0 win dwarf will get more points for killing a 3 win dwarf than the 3 win dwarf would by killing the 0 win dwarf. Points are awarded for each dwarf defeated The details are as follows.

You are the monarch of a race of dragons. Your goal is to recruit armies under you and your two generals to defeat all the other races. Either by conquering the whole world, or by killing all the other monarchs. You are currently allied with 2 other races, but you can back stab them at any time Keep in mind though, you have a limited supply of able-bodied dragons (referred from now on as "manpower") to fight for you, so don't be fighting every race at once.

Forum Games and Roleplaying / Fortunately/Unfortunately (community story)
« on: February 19, 2015, 04:11:51 pm »
This is a community story where each person writes one sentence and each post alternates starting with Fortunately and Unfortunately. (except for the first post)
The premise of the story is: The sailor Bob is trying to get to Puerto Rico.

Rules:
1. Keep it clean
2. No blatantly contradicting a previous post (no saying "unfortunately, that didn't actually happen")
3. Bold your sentences to make it easier to follow.

I'll start.

Once upon a time, there was a sailor named Bob who was trying to get to Puerto Rico

DF Suggestions / "Remove Construction" option in b-C menu.
« on: January 29, 2015, 10:30:18 am »
It can get very annoying when I am building several constructions and I get one wrong, I have to press esc-esc-esc-q-x-esc-b-C just to remove the mistake and get back to the building menu. I am suggesting a button on the b-C menu that could remove not yet built constructions so building becomes much less tedious.

Telephone Pictionary!!!

I saw this on another forum. Basically, one person writes a sentence, then, the next person draws a picture about that sentence, then, someone else writes a sentence about that picture, and so on.

RULES
1. When you submit your art or sentence, ALWAYS put it inside a spoiler.
2. If you plan on posting, DO NOT READ ANY OF THE SPOILERS EXCEPT FOR THE MOST RECENT ONE.
3. If you are drawing a picture, this may take some time. reserve a post, and then edit the picture in that post once it is finished.
4. No words inside of a picture.
5. No flagrant, racist, or in any other way offensive pictures or sentences.
6. You may only post in this ONCE, until I start a new chain.
7. After a while, I will end a current chain, post the chain at the start, and start a new chain
8. More rules as needed

I will go first:

DF Suggestions / Random diseases.
« on: January 15, 2015, 03:09:03 pm »
I was suggesting that sometimes random diseases would strike a dwarf in your fort. That random chance would go up he more gunk he has on him. (Gunk such as: puke, mud, blood, etc.) That dwarf can then pass on that disease to any dwarves that come near him, again, that chance goes up by how dirty they are. You wouldn't know if a dwarf has a disease until he shows symptoms, and you wouldn't know what the disease is until he or she gets diagnosed by the doctors. This would make baths and soap more important and also promote a hospital quickly to mitigate the spread of these diseases.

General Discussion / Favorite and least favorite Gaming Youtuber.
« on: January 12, 2015, 09:06:37 am »
I wanted to have a friendly discussion about peoples favorite and least favorite Gaming YouTube channel. Please give reasons why you made your choice. A gaming YouTube channel could do Let's Plays, Game reviews, or just mess with a game for fun. Remember, this is a friendly conversation so respect each others opinions, but make sure you give detailed reasons why you like or dislike your gaming YouTube channel.

I'll go first.

My favorite: Vanguard of Valor. He is a very professional gamer who never curses or rages while he plays his games. He does his best to play smartly, and he explains any debatable decision to his audience. He has played FTL, xCom, SOTS the pit, Shovel Knight, Freelancer, and many more.

My least favorite: Gligar13vids. He is a game "reviewer" who has no taste of what gaming is. Either that or he is just an internet troll. He has a series called "Bad Games" where he puts every game people love and gives terrible reasons why they are bad. These reasons include: sub call of duty graphics, how loud his computer gets, too much skill required, he can never beat it, and cost. Some games he has "reviewed" are FTL, Pokemon, Mario Kart, Legend of Zelda Ocarina of time, halo, you get the idea. The only game he does like is Call of Duty due to its "fantastic graphics, excellent optimization, and easy gameplay.

See the new rewrite here.

The year is 4824. I'll give you a brief summary of human expansion. Humans have been colonizing the milky way galaxy ever since the first colony was established on Renewed Hope in the year 2145. Before this, almost all of the iron within the solar system had been used, in a desperate attempt, a ramshackle colonizing ship was sent to Alpha Centauri B, the closest star to Sol. The planet they landed on was like a godsend. Renewed hope was an iron-rich planet orbiting Alpha Centauri Bl. It was just what humanity needed. When the first shipment of Giga-tonnes of iron reached the solar system, humanity wasted no time in sending thousands of colonizing ships to other nearby stars. Humanity flourished. However, in the year 3735, tensions among the two main factions, the earth-based Uranites and the Renewed Hope-based Mercinians erupted into civil wars, the independent governments of all the colonies scrambled to join the stronghold that promised the most resources. Although more joined the Uranites, the abundance of resources in the Mercinian dominion balanced the scales. The civil war lasted more then a millennial and the Uranites had all but ran out of resources. One final fleet, stronger that all others in history was sent to destroy the Mercinians at their source, New Hope. However, the fleet was intercepted a mere .02 light years from Alpha Centauri, after the fleet had already begun decelerating. A massive battle was inevitable, and it would decide the outcome of the war. If the Uranites win, New Hope will be destroyed. If the Mercinians win, the Uranites, now lacking resources, will be powerless to stop any counterattack.

You are a part of this battle.

There are two battleships at a standoff. The Uranite Space Ship (USS) Tritium, and the Mercinian Space Ship (MSS) Cesium. They have already masked their heat with countermeasures and have their capacitors filled. At the captains command, the 2 Supermassive Heat Lasers (SHL) the ships wield will inflict their catastrophic damage on the other, most likely winning the standoff. The only problem is, they don't know where the other ship is. The only passive  scanner that would be able to pick them up, the infrared scanner, is useless due to the countermeasure screens the ships put up. And nobody is stupid enough to use an active scanner. Someone has to find the other ship.

That's where you come in.

You are a scout. You fly a tiny scout ship. Your job is to head in the direction that the enemy ship is, and get behind the countermeasures to find the ship, then fly to it and send exact coordinates of the other ships SHLs to your battleship, so it can disable the enemy SHL's and win the battle. However, the chance of the enemy detection is very high once you get behind the enemy countermeasure field, and is guaranteed once you send the coordinates. Your scout ship is no match for the enemy's anti-scout fighters which will no doubt be patrolling. If a few Gauss projectiles hit your ship, your life is almost certainly forfeit. The brigade known by almost everyone as the suicide scouts for good reason. However, the pay is good.

Here is what your ship looks like.

1: epic fail (something else usually goes wrong)
2: complete fail
3: Partial success.
4: Mostly Successful
5: Completely Successful
6: Epic Success (something else goes right as well
Your goal is to transmit the location of the other ship back to yours, and if possible, get back to your ship. The team that finds the location first is the winner.
This is going to be as realistic as possible. You will have to clear your head of misconceptions. Mainly, space battles will be at really big distances, the two battleships will be about 5,000,000 kilometers (at that disance, it will take the lasers 5 seconds to hit the other ship. The distance you will need to be to find the location of the SHLs is about 200,000 kilometers. (You will have about .8 seconds to dodge any laser fire from the enemy battleship)

DF Wiki Discussion / Workshop page missing kennels
« on: January 10, 2015, 01:18:11 pm »
I noticed that the wiki page on workshops is missing any information on kennels. Even though you don't build them from the workshop menu, they are still considered a workshop.
