DF Gameplay Questions / Re: How do you kill dwarves?
« on: January 19, 2008, 08:32:00 pm »
I am making a similar setup, but whith the intention of "flushing" the dwarf down the chasm. Does water still push dwarves?

Not necessarily. a well-disciplined soldier may be accustomed to death, but they usually will not become a murderous lunatic

Artifacts will get decorated with ANYTHING. Sooner or later, you WILL see something that menaces with spikes of cloth.

DF Gameplay Questions / Re: Adjacency (dining)
« on: January 15, 2008, 03:23:00 pm »
I have my dining room arranged like this:

CCCCCCCC
TTTTTTTT
TTTTTTTT
CCCCCCCC

C = Chair
T = Table
And I am having no trouble with diagonal table usage, so I assume they do not.

Sorry, but sand/mud/blood are curently the bane of many a clean, neat fortress. The stuff will just keep spreading until it fills up your whole fort. using floor grates in front of your farms and entrances is a good way to prevent it, but once it starts, there's no stopping its inexorable expansion.

If you are using constructed fortifications rather than carved ones, they CAN be destroyed by some creatures I believe. This would mean that elevating them off the ground would be a good idea.

DF Gameplay Questions / Re: Training War animals other then dogs
« on: February 26, 2008, 06:30:00 pm »
Currently, dogs are the only animal that can be trained by default. You can, however, modify the raws to allow other types of animals to be trained. I don't remember precisely how you do this, but if you look around the forums, you can probably find it.

The floors that seperate z-levels are thin, and cave-ins will punch right through them. Cave-ins will keep going until they hit a layer of solid rock, usually collapsing several levels in the process.

It's possible that your site is isolated by some sort of natural barrier, like water or a mountain range. Do you have a screenshot of your site on the world map?

Dwarf caravans, as well as migrants, will always arrive regardless of terrain.

It might work, it's just that it'd be really difficult.

This is a bug, although I'm not sure of the circumstances that cause it. Left unchecked, the entire map will steadily fill with magma(unless you have a chasm open to the surface). There's no known way to fix this.
