Comply.

I'm assuming the rest of the party is still outside the chamber.

You (Astra) turn toward one of the side paintings (let's say the one on the left) and lift it out of its nail. Nothing happens this time. No hissing, no strange disappea-wait...now the column of treasure is gone!

"I'm a woman!" Astra shouts back, before putting the paintings back.

LOL

You stand on tiptoe and try to catch the nail with the string. After a few failed attempts (after which, you're surprisingly short of breath) you manage to pin the painting back up. Instantly, the hissing stops and there is a whoosh of air into the chamber, as the entrance reappears.

On the other side, the rest of the party experiences a sudden wind into the chamber when the entrance reappears.

Follow suggestion

You go toward the painting across from the entrance, grab it with one hand (as the other hand is holding the torch) and lift it off its nail. The instant you do so a hissing sound emanates from the floor, like air being sucked through a straw. Looking behind you, you no longer see the arched entrance - only a solid wall.

Outside the chamber, the entrance has disappeared. The staircase now leads up to nothing, the arched entrance is gone and a rock wall is in its place.

What do you do?

"I meant if there was something other than gas. Like, spikes or zombies or something."

Attempt to move the paintings.

Which one?

"It should be one of us with heavier armor. I volunteer."

Taking this to be the majority vote and going ahead:

Everyone but Astra exits the chamber. Standing on the steps of the entrance you (Arvin, Evelyn, Lilly) can see Astra's form outlined by her torch.

What do you (Astra) do?

"Well, judging by the lack of overt violence it was gas that killed them...or, even mere water.

Well, what shall we do, what shall we do..."
He muses.

Action: Check all the paintings again. Is there any painting/reflection thereof that doesn't specifically show that purple outline thing?

You (Arvin) inspect the paintings again, looking at each one carefully. However, no new information can be gleaned. The paintings are detailed, to be sure, showing individual coins within the clear pillar, exactly as they appear inside the actual pillar. And they are old. The paint is cracked and chipped. You could probably peel away the pieces if you wanted to. But each painting is more or less the same in its contents: they show the central pillar, its edges outlined in purple, and the opposite wall behind it. The only exception, is of course, the painting opposite the entrance. Which, instead of showing a wall behind the pillar, shows the entrance.

The paintings hang by some string which is nailed to the wall, but there isn't any frame. Its just a long piece of whatever-it-is hanging to the floor.

Action: Carefully inspect the skeletons, their positions, and any clues to the matter in which they died

The skeletons are well preserved. There are three of them, their clothes have rotted away and only scraps remain. One of them is holding a war-hammer, whose head is completely destroyed. The other two seem to be clutching their throats (or what remains of them) with their hands. You could probably figure out the cause of death if you did a more thorough inspection (Doctor check required)

(I'm here, was just busy yesterday.)

"I'm most nimble, I'll check."

Head to ware the door should be. Be ready to dodge if the spears? come up.

Assuming you mean the door indicated by the map and not the entrance-way you just came from...

On the wall opposite the entrance-way, where the door should be, hangs one of the paintings. The painting shows the pillar of treasure and the entrance-way behind it. The pillar edges are outlined in purple as with the other paintings. The paint is dry and cracked. Nothing happens as you approach and examine the painting and wall

Creative Projects / Re: Learning to Draw

I watch Sycra a lot on YouTube. Check him out, he's got great stuff. Basically the kost important thing to him is to draw everyday. Not for anyone else, just yourself. Because when you draw for someone else you start worrying about the outcome and how others will think. You'll start to doubt yourself and you'll draw less. Happened to me before.

Basically make a time of day where you can make a drawing that no one else will ever see. Just do it for the sake of drawing.

Another piece of advice: if you spend more time reading and watching tutorials for how to draws and stuff (like I did!) than actually drawing then you're doing it wrong.

Yeah, I'm starting to see this happening for myself. I'll pore over the descriptions in the book and stare the pictures (looking at how it was constructed) but not actually draw. Part of it is I don't know what to draw so I just end up drawing basic forms in perspective which feels like a waste of time.

I've swapped Loomis's "Fun with Pencil" for "Successful Drawing" which seems to be far more...serious, I suppose. More than half the book deals with perspective and I've done several studies (i.e copied the drawings from the book) with perspective. But I'm wondering, is there ever a point where I can stop using a straight edge and just draw by hand/eye?

Cause right now I can't draw or match up straight lines to save my life.

Arvin surveys the skeletons, the treasure, and the tiny holes in the floor.

"Well...step carefully, yes?"

Action: Inspect the hanging paintings visually for details.

You bring the torch close to the paintings and examine them. They're...paintings of the room! There are three of them hanging by a bit of string nailed to the wall. They hang a little bit above your head all the way to the floor. Each painting is a like a mirror, reflecting the opposite wall (as well as the pillar of treasure in the middle of the room). The only noticable feature is that the edges of the transparent pillar are highlighted in purple in the painting. Finally the painting directly across from the door shows the outline of the arched entrance behind you.

You also realize that there is no other way out of the room except for the way you came in, despite what is indicated by the map (there should be a passage way directly across the entrance according to it.)

Oh and the bridge disappears when light the torches, leaving a black pit where the lake previously was.

The torch illuminates the door. There is a simple doorknob of brass fixed at waist-height. You turn the knob and door swings open without a creak. That was almost too easy...

Inside is a large room with an arched ceiling. It is dark. Your torches shine on a transparent pillar in the center of the room. Within the pillar are mounds of gold and gems, chipped pottery and paintings. The pillar seems to extend all the way to the ceiling and is perfectly smooth. Paintings hang on each side of the room. Looking down you can see small holes in even intervals on the floor, in a grid, each about the size of a gold coin and all the same size. Several skeletons lie on the floor, perfectly preserved, giving a grimness to the otherwise pretty room.

"Door here. Be prepared."

Open the Door.

In case it wasn't clear, the features of the door (including door knobs) cannot be seen in the darkness. You'll have to relight the torch.
