 Greetings fellow overlords.
 I find it deeply inefficient to have children grow up to be peasants. Instead, We should have school with teachers teach basic skills, complete with mining school trips/apprenticeships they take with their parents/other adults with useful skills.

 Great idea! I think it would be nice to assign them names that dwarves understand so they can mock or glorify them in art based on what you called them

 This is an engraving of a dwarf and elves. The dwarf is slaughtering the elves by the hundreds at a time. Gore is flying and the bones are turned into masterwork finished goods. It relates to the defeat of the elven siege by UristMcBadass in the year 156.

 I think something similar already exists in masterwork, but regardless I think an additional source of fun to have dwarves interpret deities differently, as to create civ splitting religious wars in world gen and religiously motivated murders and all in fortresses that reach a certain size (starting massive wars if the perpetrators aren't arrested).

 I think that military orders need to be more specialized. Like ordering marksdwarves to operate as snipers, or fire in volleys; or tell speardwarves to go into turtle formation, form a line with marksdwarves to defend a wall; or mixing different squads to ambush a caravan guerrilla style. Or melee soldiers hiding behind doors to ambush those who pass inside. Basically, instead of just assigning a target you would assign a formation/operating mode and then a target/kill all at proximity/kill a type of target.

 Greetings fellow overlords.
 This isn't really a content suggestion in itself, but it's still pretty important.
 Military. We need better military, or rather a more developed one. Especially in a world like this one. I just feel that you don't have enough control over military operations, and instead just unleash a slurry of warriors on single targets rather than detailed formations and all. Not that I want DF to become a strategy battle game, but i think it's an area worthy of improvement.

And another thing that I sadly found to be unmodable is ballistas firing zipline type things, that can block/behead passing enemies (given they are fast enough and don't stop), allow dwarven tight ropers to quietly infiltrate enemy camps and immobilize giants, megabeasts etc.

On top of what smakemupagus said, the chain weapons would spray blood and body parts all across the battlefield, although i don't understand why it would have low penetration or a jagged edge, as Ladygolem said, as regardless of the features of the blade itself, it's be the 50 high velocity metal claws are tearing at your flesh every second aspect that makes it dangerous, so in my mind it would be a messy, high penetration sharp blade (seems contradictory but the "death zone" created by the teeth essentially amount to an extremely sharp blade) (that should damage you if you as much as touch it, but that never happens in combat so it doesn't matter).

 Greetings fellow overlords. after reading and contributing to the theater suggestion thread, i fecided it would be nice to have speeches that squad leaders or mayors or whatever would tell to morally support a crumbling populace, decimated squad, grieving family etc. It would be made from references to events in the world history that somewhat correspond to the current situation or mythological stories (idk if mythology is generated along with deities, demons and the like, but it should, reflecting actual historical events, adding storytellers as a type of historical figure).

To continue with my idea of siege operators as military personnel, it would be nice if they could be integrated into normal squads and autonomously use their siege weapons to take down the squad target. naturally, this would only work if many of the aforementioned changes are applied, ie rotating/moving turrets, siege teams (you cant help take down a single target if it's being attacked by five people at the same time and you take five minutes to load your weapon), selective targeting/ammo choice.

Another cool idea would be modifying siege engines/special items for the artillery teams, like an aiming instrument, a pot of oil to set ammo on fire, a bullet (for lack of a better name) shield, xyz rotation (not sure if this is what you meant by multiple z level firing), and animals that carry siege ammo/dismantled siege engines to build on your idea.
