As for the Gatling, I thought it would make more sense to have it as a wheeled carriage type thing, that you would attach to an animal or something and carry around the battlefield. Actually that for ballistae would be a good update suggestion. I'm gonna go post it.

A harpoon (in the way I use it, I'm not sure it's the right word) is attached to a rope, so it would block and possibly behead passing people/creatures until a sufficient force is applied to it, causing it to break. Also dwarven tightropers.

Even without the squad thing, siege operators should be qualified as military personnel (resistance to death, bravery, choosing armor...). That really needs to be added.

 Greetings fellow overlord.
 Recently, I've had a few ideas for mods, however I am unable to code and it will be a long time before I'll be able to code, so here are some ideas in case someone wanted to make a mod but doesn't have any ideas.

-Harpoon firing ballistas
-Steampunk weapons (flamethrowers and Gatling guns would go well with the FUCK EVERYTHING! dwarven mindset)
-Chainswords BLOOD FOR THE BLOOD GOD!
-Molotov cocktail barrels

 I agree, to much control would break the chaotically unpredictable nature that creates the fun of dwarf fortress. but i think it would be nice to choose the nature of what is depicted, either as fortress related, or as brutal gruesome violence, to satisfy the different uses of choosing what is engraved, ie a history of the world, or a wall of blood and gore. At very least for engravings, that you can't really undo other than by destroying the wall. If for some reason we can't do that, it would be nice to see what is on a statue while trading or before placing it. Or even when it's placed. I think you're supposed to be able to see through k but I can't for some reason.

 Greetings fellow overlords.
 Recently UristMcNoob found it annoying that siege weapons are operated by a single civilian. Don't you think it would be better if they were operated by a squad like team composed of a loader, shooter, aimer, leader, guard and whatnot (with their own skills), like in real life. Not because I'm one of those people who are obsessed with realism, even in a fantasy game, but because it would be so much more efficient. You could assign certain balistae and catapults to be used for training by a squad, like barracks, then you would assign them a combat weapon. they would reload and fire faster, not go to civalert burrows, not run away from the enemy, have weapons and armor assigned to them and choose the ammo and where to aim if their is a target in front of them.

 Greetings fellow overlords.
 Don't you think it would be awesome to choose what subjects your dwarves engrave/sculpt, so you can adorn the outside of your fortress with engravings of dying elves (bonus if it happened at YOUR fortress!) and then sell merchants statues of their predecessors' slaughter (this would require being able to see statue description in the trading UI).
 It would be like a statue menu in the mason's workshop menu, sort of like this: -u) Statue

                                                                                                                      f) Founding

This happened to me two, the last two moody dwarves (one child, one adult) refused to pick up materials and went berserk. Both were killed.

 Greetings fellow overlords. A weregilamonster has wounded a few dwarves and killed one. Is the corpse safe to touch? how can i isolate the infected? (other than blocking all doors). Note that i dont have access to lava.

 Greetings UristMcEscapedLunatic, recently i have been creating a few squads to defend myself against goblin pedophiles and kangaroos. However, i wasn't sure whether to assign them weapons or give them a choice. If i give them the choice will they pick the one they're best at? Are mixed melee and ranged squads a good idea? what is the best configuration for a fortress guard that will not be taking part in military operations?
