DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: What's going on in your fort?
« on: October 09, 2016, 04:32:26 pm »
I got my first invasion today.

The hellfire imps lethargically wandered in from the map edge, which was nice cause I had animals outside and several people carrying rocks back to the burrow. The first casualty was a guy that was hanging around outside of the burrow for whatever reason. I stationed my hammer squad which had a decent amount of training but no armour. They bravely stood at the drawbridge, wielding their silver warhammers and wooden shields as the first of the imps came down the stairs. A few bolts from the crossbow squad were launched but they suck so none hit. One of the dwarves let loose a cry and charged at the small creature. It didn't stand a chance. He bashed the thing in the face and cracked its skull. The rest of the squad charged in as well and soon the battle truly started. Blah blah, few guys dead, more imps dead, fortress lived. The end. It was inevitable.

Two things.

My first project is trying to build an aqueduct that pumps water from the river up two z levels and lets it into a giant pipe that flows straight down into an artificial underground river. The river flows under the first draw bridge and falls down two z levels into a nice meandering creek where I have all my living and workshop stuff.

The other thing is that my Crossbowdwarves have a glaring lack of quivers, and desperately need a source of leather to make them useful. I've been trying to train a couple so that I can make them hunters for a while and get some leather and meat and XP. Unfortunately my marksdwarves are awful at training and would rather sit around talking to the White Tigerman "bard" (obviously a spy) than help their kingdom survive a siege. Too bad, Dabbling Marksdwarf. You're going on a hunting trip.

Because they know it was inevitable.

How do sea lampreys get in the smallest brooks?

One time, during the first year of my fort, the king of the civilization came and decided to live in my fortress. He had a strange obsession with pants.

I was playing mount and blade a little too much, saw someone I wanted to talk to, and thought "I should talk to that person so I can get better relations."

Make sure you smooth everything.

Absolutely everything.

No one is going to besiege you if they can't make a big slip and slide down the halls.

Ponies are probably the perfect Dwarf riding animal. Especially if you have an especially Dwarven subspecies...

While we're at it, can we please make Dwarves pull their wagons with one species of animal? I'm getting really bugged by the fact that I get a dromedary and a yak pulling the same wagon.

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Connecting Landmasses

Hiyanoodles.

I started a new world, looked around, and noticed there were a couple of places where the tips of two different continents were close enough to fit into one map tile.

I was wondering if it's possible to embark in such a place, and then build a really big bridge to connect the continents and then there is trade between those continents.

I'm going to SCIENCE! this and post my results as Soon™ as possible.

They naturally grow in various forms of Forumite, e.g Redditite, 4chanite.

How do you mince milk?

Well, I got high master throwing and archery, walked to a nearby town (Scaleddumplings) and then discovered it was being attacked by a horde of zombie goblins. I then discovered that pikes are not really that great when you have novice proficiency in them. And then I discovered that throwing sand and snow at them don't work, went and grabbed a severed goblin leg and tried beating one to death with it but then I got struck down after I threw a goblin head at one of the zambies.

Not much of an adventure story, but it's better than "Climbed a tree, fell and died."

Oh yeah, fisher berries are also not very good throwing weapons.

Am I the only one in this whole dang forum that thinks this is horribly horrible even for a video game?

I recently started digging just a few levels under the surface (where roots won't destroy everything and there's still soil) for the first part and then turning that into a guard post and moving everyone else to a stone level. I like to think my designs are most trappifying, with traps and drawbridges and narrow corridors, and if you get past all that you reach another set of traps and narrow corridors of death.

I attempted to level up my swimming skill. It was going well until I floundered in the water, and I thought it was gonna be okay.

Little did I know that I was swimming near a huge waterfall, and I fell to my splooshy death.

Uh, Hi. I'm new to the forums so... Hello.

Anyways. I just started a new fort on a new world, and decided to visit the civilization info page and discovered this:

Waaaaaaaaaat?

I thought this only happened in fables and tales!

Can someone explain?
