Forum Games and Roleplaying / The Curse of Many Doors - [0/6] [OOC]
« on: February 18, 2019, 11:38:27 am »

The Premise
Six people unknowingly afflicted with the Curse of Many Doors (see above) step through six respective doors, and through some twist of fate find themselves in the same room. The Curse, it seems, has plotted the same journey for all six, and has had mercy enough to start them off together.
As such, the six unlikely companions must travel onwards, both in hopes of finding a way back home as well as inevitably sorting out the many problems they face along the way.

Guidelines
There are no limits on your character, besides the boundaries of both common sense (nobody that will invalidate all challenge on the Journey, but also nobody completely incapable of contributing in any way) and common courtesy (highly inappropriate characters don't make great travelling companions).
At the moment, there are no player-side stats or rules, but depending on how things turn out they may be implemented. I intend for this to be a relatively light-hearted experience, despite the terrifying concept, but who knows what might happen?
As expected, excessive OOC bickering or IC murdering-each-other will not be tolerated. Keep to the forum guidelines, too, while you're at it!

Spoiler: Character Sheet (click to show/hide)

Character cap will likely remain at 6. Characters chosen based on GM favouritism quality, not first-come-first-served.

[OOC Link upcoming]

The Academy is an impressive piece of architecture - more like a castle with grounds than a real school. Tall, dark, and expansive, it looms over those assembled - and despite being at the gates, the main building is still several hundred meters away, a huge section of land having been walled off entirely, as if to contain it.
In direct contrast to the Gothic architecture of the building, though, the grounds themselves appear remarkably pleasant, a fact extending to the grassy waiting area just beyond the huge, wrought-iron gates: a small area with a grit path, some simple wooden benches, a few small (but pretty) patches of flowers, and a view of the surrounding countryside - including the small town nestled snugly in the picturesque valleys. Despite its ornate design, the school feels almost like some sort of unsightly blemish when surrounded by so much scenery.

Still, there's time enough to admire it later.
...or now, it seems, as there's no teacher waiting to open the gate.

WELCOME TO DAYBREAK ACADEMY
IC Thread
~A new journey into old territory~

Discord server

In a world where supernatural creatures of many kinds dwell hidden from - or indeed, amongst - humanity, you play as a student who has been enrolled in the Daybreak Academy for Inexplicable Anomalies.
The school, active for several hundred years, aims to teach its students based on three principles - concealing themselves from the mundane world, better grasping their own abilities and natures, and (most importantly) becoming functional members of society, whether mundane or otherwise.

The players are students at the academy - first-years, which translates to 'new arrivals' rather than a fixed age group, although they tend to be around 16-18 in mental if not physical age - immortal creatures are quite a burden on the school system. Reply to this thread with a character sheet to be considered for entry.

Spoiler: Character Sheet (click to show/hide)

NOTE: This game is not first-come-first-served. After a while I'll pick the sheets that will get in, and the RP will begin. I reserve the right to veto characters or aspects of said characters, within reason.

And all that remains to be said is to enjoy yourselves. If you learn anything along the way, that's pretty cool too.

We are building a winter fortress, up near the glaciers, surrounded by elves and cacti despite the oft-freezing climes. Even the summer is icy cold, and the river which brings our wounded water freezes over for three seasons at a time.
We are not cutting down any of these cacti, because good word they are beautiful. Nature sure is amazing. We haven't even slaughtered any animals except a dying donkey.
Yet we sink our foundations deep into the rocks, trading with our elven neighbours for the wood in our beds and bins, and relying on the earth's bounty for the petty concerns of shelter and gathering places: here, the more cramped our halls are, the more warmth we'll have, for it is the fire in our hearts that warms us as the wolverines howl to the wind's tune.
We are dwarves, and we shall strike the earth. But not the trees, 'cause the elves were right the whole time. Except the cannibalism.

But yeah, I decided to start one maptile away from a glacier, in an often-freezing place full of saguaro cacti. I'm also going to conform to hippie standards, although we don't really have masses of trees anyway. Seeing as I've never actually played seriously (I got bored of my last fort before the first year was done) it is time to thrust myself into the fire.

So far we are in the second spring and we have enough of everything to last everyone for a long while. Trading dolomite pots and gems to the elves is an, ah, enriching experience.
Two strange moods and artifacts: an artifact wooden bow and an artifact wooden figurine (which means two legendary craftsdwarves who specialise in the resources I have very little of).

I think I know what I'm doing, but any tips for getting water? There's an aquifer somewhere, but we've only dug about 6-8 levels down so far because mountain.

Also, does not cutting any trees since the beginning even affect your relations?

Sunrise Academy - Sunshine and Rainbows edition

Welcome to Sunrise Academy! This is going to be another one of those Monster Academy games, but with something at least partially resembling a plot or plots. Anyone can join - granted their character is acceptable.

This game takes place in modern-day probably-Japan, where a new school, Sunrise Academy, has recently been founded by the Summer Court, a very large political power. It is a very exclusive school, only accepting the best and brightest of the world... that is, of the world of monsters! Indeed, some of the greatest young minds and bodies of the supernatural world are here to learn, to hone their skills alongside their usual education to become the very greatest the monster world has to offer, in preparation for a revealing to the human world, planned out by the Summer Court.

But, no pressure, right?

It's the first day of term at Yamaku High, and most of the students boarding there are just coming in. In this group of incoming students are our protagonists, also themselves ordinary students.

And they should be at the gates any second...

Welcome to Yamaku High School for disabled children - a calm and serene backdrop to school life, free from the hustle and bustle of the rest of the world. A peaceful place in a tumultuous world, and for many, the beginning of a new life.

As a new batch of students come to the school, trying to deal with their own disabilities and get on with life, new stories unfold within the school walls. What they are: well, you shall have to see for yourselves.

Based off of the visual novel Katawa Shoujo, as a sort of hybrid between an AU fic and a roleplay.

You are the beard of Urist McFisherman, a migrant to the fortress.
The sentient, parasitic beard of Urist McFisherman.
Your strands are yet shallow, and you are weak. Merely a goatee among the bushy beards of the original settlers.
But you know that, given time, you shall grow. You shall grow and become strong.
But beards are fickle creatures, and your bretheren are trying to establish their dominance as well.
The Battle of the Beards has begun, and the fortress of Hairymurder is about to earn its name. Or not.
Go ye forth and become the one.
The only.
Top Beard.

It's the first day of term at Yamaku High, and most of the students boarding there have already begun to arrive. Among the crowd, such as it is, are our protagonists, themselves also ordinary students.

Ahead of them stand the ornate, wrought-iron gates, opened in a curiously subdued welcome.

It's a new beginning for them, cliché as the phrase might seem. The only question that remains is what they'll do with it.

Forum Games and Roleplaying / What did you dream last night?
« on: December 07, 2015, 12:00:30 pm »
This is something of an obvious 'forum game'.
What DID you dream last night? Hopefully Bay12 will be full of hilarious dwarfy dreams and not all these deep, philosophical dreams all the other people have.

To start, I dreamed one of the forumites (who will remain nameless) hit me with a copyright charge for linking to Undertale soundtrack music, and that he was a site admin. It was so realistic I actually started typing up an apology this morning before it hit me he isn't an admin.
