I'm guessing this mod will not work with steam adventure mode but I still wanted to ask just in case. It looks good but I don't really play fort mode.

Hi i'm kind of new i got into the game a few years ago but my pc had issues with the game so i quit however i now have a pc that can handle this game better so i have a few questions if someone could help me.
1. Is there a way to get rid of the Z arrows? it kind of throws me off and they kind of look ugly to me.
2.I'm not sure what to call it but that map like thing on the right of the screen that shows you what is above you and under you is there a way to turn it off? I never use it and it just takes space on the screen.
3.Is there a way to tell bandits you are accuse them of crimes because the first rumor quest i tried was about a bandit camp and i wanted to fight them but they seemed friendly and i did not want to attack them till i knew for sure they were the bandits i wanted but since they seemed friendly i did not know what to do how do you do quests like this?

I guess that is it for now thanks to anyone that can help i know the Z level one may bug some people and i get it i just like the way worlds in say caves of qud look more without the arrows all over the world so if there is a way to lower the amount of them it would really help me get into the game i think.

I don't even know if there are any tilesets like that with this game but in CDDA some tilesets have your PC change how they look based off what you have equipped are there any good tilesets like that for DF?

Unless this has changed since I've last played, if you make saves regularly and just force-quit the program when you die, without going past the 'you died' screen, you can reload from your last save.
Thanks this works

Truth be told i like it when there is no permadeath and yes i know most rougelikes have permadeath as the default however a good amount of newer ones are giving the option to turn it off if you so wish. like cave of qud or TOME or CDDA anyway maybe i'm wrong but this game does not seem to have that option?

DF Modding / Does adventure mode suffer from FPS death?
« on: December 08, 2017, 10:54:11 pm »
What i mean is i hear if a fort gets to big in fort mode the game becuses unplayble so what about adventure mode does this mode also have that kind of death?

Ok so i have a i5 6500 cpu and 8 ram (I don't think it matters but a GTX 1060 GPU)
Anyway i have noticed that if i move slowly i don't get lag however if i move around at too fast of a speed the game will lag not input mind you it's more of that freeze lag as if it was loading something only to start up once more anyway as someone that wants to get into DF Adventurer mode this makes me sad since i like moving faster then the game will let me.
I guess i don't understand how i can play cave of qud and CDD with no issues but i have issues with this game does anyone know what my issue maybe?

dwarf fortress is simulating an entire world/city filled with npcs with complex AI as you play. Caves of qud is simulating peanuts in comparison to what df is doing every tick. It still lags on my i7 sometimes, also the game needs more optimization but yeah whole world simulation (including all npc's that are historical figs) even off your screen., Caves of qud likely gets away with not simulating every single npc on the world  since they just sorta sit there. Thats likely why. Look up world activities/weather on the wiki if you wnat more info. Note that the article on world activities is extremely out of date as of the current version, there is a lot more going on now with agents running around spying on people gathering information and fighting for artifacts as you play. ANd NPC's partying up and taking on quests aswell.  (they will even go after you if you have one of those quests)

Not to mention all those conversations between NPC's happening and being tracked....

I mean that's crazy impressive but it would be nice if that is the issue if there was a way to set if you wanted a living world or a world where maybe the game makes the area you are in living but the rest of the world standing still that way people with cpus like mine can play the game with less lag.

Get a better computer.
HA you think a i5 6500 cpu is bad with a GTX 1060 GPU man i would hate to know what you think of the fact i used to play with no GPU on a low end i3 cpu :)

No expert, but I think the "stutter" is because the fps is so much higher than the g_fps.  If your fps is 400 and your g_fps is 40, then you're only displaying one in ten calculated frames.  I think the default is 100/50, which displays only one in two calculated frames.  I run 50/50.

If you've capped them at 20, I have no idea why they would exceed that.  Did you cap them in the init file or using a mod?

I was using the starter pack thing but i gave up on the game i just could not take the stutter.
Also i forgot my ram is 8GB 1333 so it's not very fast that may also be the issue however i found a new game that works it's called cataclysm dark days ahead :)

It should be played FPS (GFPS)

I do get some spikes above 100 when playing at 100 and pausing, but it seems to normalize. Nothing like you get, though.

Any idea how to fix it i'm starting to think this is why i'm getting stuttering now.....

Ok so i notice that when using the FPS Counter i noticed there are 2 different FPS's

One goes up to like 400-800 FPS the other almost never goes under 20 FPS i would think they are the calculation FPS and Graphical FPS however that would make no sense do to the fact i caped both to 20 FPS....So what is the one that is 400-800FPS?

13
No, there is not.  The simulation is a core game mechanic, if your system is experiencing difficulty while running the game (presumably in adventurer mode?) then you should run a small or pocket world gen with low civ and site settings, that may help alleviate the problem.

Ok so to test something i put every thing as low as i could i made the game have no temp and no weather and i still get lag spikes when moving around (Yes I'm a fan of adventuring)

I don't get it i would think a i3 3240 3.40 GHz would be ok to play this game :(
I mean i just find this stutter really annoying.....

14
Ok so i am trying to stop this stutter issue i have and i think it's do to my CPU trying to remember and record everything that happens when i move around is there a way to make the world not change as much or at all other then things i do to it?

15
Ok so i did some looking into this and i new know what the issue is not sure how to fix but what can you do....
It's the CPU every time the game freezes the CPU spikes from like 20-30% to 100% that kind of sucks but what can you do :)
