General Discussion / Re: Food Thread: An Offal Day
« on: March 12, 2015, 05:00:35 am »
I have spent a few days at my Granny's... Now I'm coming back to proudly present you her speciality of the house!
Spoiler: Granny‘s apple cake. (click to show/hide)
The buiscuit is delightful and the recipe is surprisingly simple: nothing but 4 eggs, 1/2 cup of sugar and 1 cup of flour mixed together. The most important thing is NO SALT. She also adds some cowberry to the apples when she has any, but this is optional. Now I'm full of self-contradictions: can't deside who is a better cook, she or Mom or me...

197
Here is a longbow I made while living in a camp. Without a bow-string, which I still would be unable to bend.  :'(  It took long to find an appropriare tree.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

And I don't have a real bow or crossbow of my own, so... Can fix nothing, need training.

198
Depends on the bow. Longbows had longer ranges, but took more space and needed more training...
And they're the hardest to bend. It's an important parameter for me. Isn't there a thing like longcrossbow?...

199
And I can't even bend a bow, what a pity. At last I'm pretty neat when using a crossbow. And the distance one can shoot for with a crossbow is longer. I'm definitly not an elf. Yay for crossbows! (And Mulan song)

*went to search for a link to a total list of geometry terms*

I'd rather not receive any cards, thanks. It might raise some inconvenient questions with my family, possibly of the kind that occurred to Sheb's dad on discovering the KGB Comrade P. had sent him a card.

But Sheb's dad wasn't angry, just strangely surprised, was he? And the only communistic card I had is on its way to Helgo right now. Sure, I don't insist on anything, just telling you I don't work for KGB, which sounds improbable.

Ah, sorry Bumblebee, it slipped out of my mind. I PM'd you my address. :)
Yep. But the 8th of March is a national holiday so I won't be able to send you a card until tuesday. Our glorious post wants its rest, too.

Of course I don't mind! And I'll send one back, too. Letter, post card, or both?
I'm as enthusiastic as any friendly puppet should be, so I'll send both. Your part is up to you, though.

You're the first person who misspelled the 'h' but got the 'l' and the double 'p' right. XD
Well, I used my tablet to type it. Probably I drunk a little bit too much vodka on the eve and my fingers were shaking. Should ask my bear to hide the remaining bottles. Actually I know how it's spelled- I had a very nice pinguinoid geography teacher and I know that there were many horse-loving ancient Greeks so their nationals had to invent a special name for them all  ;) Sorry.

Oh, so many of you... I will send all the cards! Il Palazzo, Arx, EagleV, do you mind receiving one (or two!) from Russia? Do you mind sending one to? And, Sheb, I don't quite understand you: at first it seemed that you wanted a card from me... but then it was silence. What was it? Did I get it wrong?

I'm up for writing full letters too, let's go back to the seventies and have pen pals all over the world!
We may have a sub-club! What did I say? A small club inside the postcrossing one, I meant. (Makes me feel like I'm a small friendly puppet jumping around)

Oh, you know nothing about Poczta Polska, John Snow.

(PM me yer address)
You're saying it's worse than Pochta Rossii? That's a very bold claim.
Sounds like a challenge!
Ha! Can you buy flower seeds at your weak Polska Poczta? No. And Russian post sells seeds (and everything). It does everything except delivering mails.

Hm. I have not send yours yet, either. Mostly because of being a lazy /bad person/, but because our post works until, like, 18, too. Will send it soon, at last. Or so I hope.
Yeah, I did it. You can now start counting days.

Hum ._. I'd readily in but...
> I've no idea what a postcard is. (Alright, I do, but I'm unsure how to even...do that. Like payment! And all!)
I didn't know how to send it, either. Until today. Turned out it's enough to come to the local post office and do that "Pleeeeease, m'dm, I need help" thing. She explained me what to do and sold me the stamps and everything was just okay.

> I have no idea on our specific address. -_- I mean, we have the road...but lack the specifics like house number or such that specifies the address unless specifically addressed to the family in question (or so I know, anyway).
You can ask the madam from the previous paragraph what the address of the post office is and we can try to use the "general delivery/ poste restante" option... Not sure, though.

> I'm in the Philippines [Luzon, CAR region...anyway]. All the way around the Globe from most of you! ...So PMs sound better ._. but the idea of receiving a letter I can touch and hold and trace with my hand from a friend, no matter where...that'd be extremely awesome.
Nah, I live in the middle of the world. Plilippines and America both are equally far, so the distance doesn't matter anymore.
I can send you a letter, a nice friendly letter! Not a couple of words on a tiny piece of paper called "postcard", but a whole novel. We, bees, have lots of Zizzs to express. Want so?

Can I have one, too? Plus, I still have 12 to send, and I'm as much NOT from North America as possible. PM me your address, please.
I have to go buy a postcard for Bumblebee anyway, so I'll stock up a bit.

Sometimes I wonder, do people in perpetually hot countries sometimes get vacations to Norway in the winter just to play snowballs and generally chill out?
I'm not sure if one can play snowballs in Norway. The snowflakes just won't unite into a snowball when it's too cold, so, to play you need a place with snow and ~ -1℃. Norway's by the sea, though, it might be wet and OK. But in Finland I couldn't play. Notice it, warm-countries inhabitants.

I am so tired... So very tired.
But I can't sleep. :(
Mug of warm milk, warm bed, read an easy book for half an hour? :(
And a stuffed animal and relaxing music.
Nope.
Do you have any slow paced real-time strategies? I've fallen asleep while playing Planetary Annihilation before. Something that gives you a lot to watch, but isn't thought provoking.

Phisics. Math. Arts history. Tolstoy "War and peace". You'll fall asleep on the second page.

It all is made of copper wire of different gauge. To make the bands I and then tinkered it to form a ring.
On the second photo the tin I tinkered with can be noticed.

Spoiler: I made a ring. (click to show/hide)

You might ask me why I'm telling you about it here... Immediately after I took these pictures I dropped the ring and the central green stone broke. I tried to replace it with something, but the thin wire broke too. Realy-really-really sad. *cry*

It's already deconstructed. I will re-use the rings and the beads. RIP, my creation.

After all, Putin himself promised to do that!

Do you really believe it means anything? I mean, I'm not one of those who are sure it was Putin's order, but I know that it's some kind of president's obligation to publicly present his condolences. Just a formality, nothing more.

Well, unless you currently are an opposition politician, I doubt you'll be much affected.
No, it's not about politics, it's about the total atmosphere. I'm not used to living in a criminal city where it's okay to shoot people in the street, you see. Any people, no matter if they're opposition politicians or not. Things like this does not happen often, right? And it's not his death that can affect me, but its reasons and after-effects.

You know, one thing I've been wondering is what'll happen to Russia when Putin dies? Because he's been leading Russia for so long...

I was thinking about it, too. No idea. (Medvedev is a bit foolish for this part)

Spoiler (click to show/hide)
It is terrifying, but sadly not new or unexpected.

Your list looks earnestly, though I'm still confused. Putin rating is extremely high now, so why would he give the order to kill that man? Plus, the government allowed to hold the meeting in the city centre instead of the outskirts; more angry people will come... What is their profit? There must be some hidden reason, of course...

Back to the topic, it's not important for me who killed him. I would like to know what will follow and what I should do in such circumstances. *egoist in panic!"
