Life Advice / Humanist/Existential Rant
« on: June 09, 2017, 08:45:24 pm »
Well, over 80% of people have schizophrenia. Don't take drugs; if you're anti-social because of your disconnect with reality then that means you've probably recognized some self-contradictions in your beliefs system(s) and spending time self-reflecting and analyzing your worldview will resolve your schizophrenia. I believe that crippling depression in youths often stems from a conflict between perception and reality, or from abusive relationships. If your memory is unreliable then try writing a diary. I have a few million words' worth of memos and interesting tidbits I've written down over the years, sorted by key words so that I can easily search for them on my Notepad textfile. If you have trouble concentrating, then try finding something interesting that you are passionate about and it will be incomparably easier to concentrate since you'll feel that you are doing something meaningful.

It must be a significant source of cognitive dissonance to worship a deity responsible for aging, disease, death, predation, various genocides, and who allows the violent atrocities committed by and against members of whichever religion your imaginary friend of choice is affiliated with... While simultaneously valuing your own existence and well-being. I'm totally for having imaginary friends, but I don't use my imaginary friend's feelings as absolutist self-justification.

I find humanism, transhumanism, veganism, strong AI rights activism, anti-interventionist activism, and animal rights activism (basically if neoepicureanism were a word, I would use it to self-describe myself) are positive world views which allow for satisfaction from incremental positive change and the knowledge that you are optimizing your decision-making for the greater good :)

If you're paying people to commit genocide, or torture animals, or enslave people, then chances are, that money is not well-spent.

That's a source of depression, and the anxiety follows. I mean it's fine to take drugs but then you make yourself dependent on those drugs, when making yourself dependent on 'Logic' is a permanent, cheaper, long-term solution. So yeah.

As for laziness... Eventually we all feel the compulsion to make money, for survival. And if you have to be social to make money, well: Everyone's An Actor

So don't feel bad about being an inanimate construct or a mathematical program or an ephemeral deterministic existence, or a soulless philosophical zombie, because it's religion that has taught us that these traits are evil and that to be valued as a person you have to be an immortal supernatural ghost and worship a genocidal deity. It's religion that has taught us that we have supernatural consciousness and that the inanimate laws of the universe are alive and intelligent. Intelligence is a product of brains, and brains with high intelligence develop consciousness - whatever that is! I like to think of myself as a cluster of neurons optimizing its risk/reward decisions for mental & physical well-being. By having a logical perspective of reality, you can have a more accurate perception of reality, and thus be better at choosing optimal decisions! And in the end, we realize that those scary things like the passage of time and pascal's wager and our lack of free will or inanimacy aren't all that relevant 8)

Because even if there is such a thing as fate, there is nobody controlling your thoughts but yourself! And no one telling you what's meaningless and meaningful but yourself. So go make something great 8)

Because there are other people, living the same existences as you are. And that's something to cherish.

Fell down a shaft. Got banished into the abyss. Ran away from powerful monsters but ran into even more powerful monsters. #FUN

As soon as I'm like, "Yeah!! I've cleared the toughest part of the game!" I fall down three levels and get banished. Item generator decided not to give me teleport or blink scrolls or abyss exit. I shoulda just potioned and killed stuff. Also, shields are crazy-important for midgame.

Fastest way is to remove weapons from squad equip and then put 'em back after the chopping is done.

I try to leave a copper battle axe and a mining pick lying around.

Go ahead when lemonpie posts the save. I'm busy all weekend. I'll take a turn after yours, Alpha.

Year 120.6: Gragahuda and Marek attack Green Ruby Island at the behest of the ocean titan. ((Are Morek King Under the Sands and Gragahudas the same as people as Marek King Under the Sea and Gragahuda?))

Diplomacy rolls:
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
Code: [Select]
52As the attack is launched, Morek's bloodline betrays Morek, citing that Gragahuda is not a Crab, and has rejected the worship of Maple.
Attack on Morek's life (1 = killed)
Code: [Select]
1Morek: King Under the Sands is killed by his own children. Korek the Crab laments, and retreats the Crab forces away from the island as the battle ensues.
Sanddweller, Eleman, Faerie, and creature unite to fight against the ocean titan Gragahuda.
Strategy:
1 = methodical attack
2 = target fortifications first
3 = inflict as many casualties as possible
4 = target undefended buildings and civilians
Code: [Select]
4With the loss of his sole ally, Gragahuda decides to play it safe and cause as much destruction as possible with the least risk posed. (Effect: Gragahuda cannot be killed; island cannot be conquered)
1 = islanders
2 = Gragahuda
Code: [Select]
22121The defenders were prepared for an attack! Nets and traps await Gragahuda as he attacks the coastal villages, so he evades them and uses his giant body to create waves, flooding the coastal villages. After destroying the coastal area, he advances to the larger towns and hamlets. The are much better defended, and by now the militias have been warned of his advance. Both sides are completely prepared for the other, and waiting for the other to make the first move. Gragahuda begins uprooting trees and throwing them at the defenders. Town after town falls to Gragahuda's spiteful siege tactics, until he reaches the inner hamlets. Well-defended with stone and spear. Javelin and sling. Gragahuda destroys the rural shelters but after a day of fighting, decides that destroying the fortified defenders is simply not worth the efforts, and contents himself with eating the homeless victims in the surrounding ransacked villages. 80% of the structures are destroyed, yet 70% of the islanders survived! The Crabs, guilty over their former alliance with Gragahuda, offer to ferry refugees to the mainland, but are scapegoated by the other tribes. The Crabs are forced to evacuate Green Ruby Island.

Korek, the aging Crab leader names Kwaika the Aquamancer as his successor.

74The sanddwellers begin selective breeding, but it seems that sand worm ferocity and strength are regressive traits. The selectively bred sand worms are larger than their counterparts.

Year 119.1 The dwarves send a squad to investigate the flying creature.

1 = dwarves
2 = DRAGON
Code: [Select]
22112The dragon swoops down and attacks the fleeing recruit. He is dismembered and faints instantly. His comrades charge the dragon from behind! The dragon screeches in fury, and knocks an axedwarf to the ground. Its tail is bleeding. The marksmen aim for its eyes but keep missing. The dwarven axemen are slain. The swordsdwarves take their spots and stab the dragon repeatedly, yet it shows no signs of slowing, and the swordsdwarves are one by one punctured and torn up. Enraged, the remaining melee fighters begin hacking at the dragons throat, yet it merely flies upward and unleashes its fiery breath upon the clumped-up heroes.

The marksmen gaze in despair upon the charred corpses. Fury boils within their veins. Not all is lost!
"LONG LIVE THE CAUSE!!!"
The marksmen toss away their quivers and jump onto the dragon's wings, biting and bashing all they can reach. The dragon's leg is torn (muscle). The dragon's wing is mangled beyond recognition. The dragon's ear is severed. The dragon's feet are bruised (bone). The dragon's lower legs are torn (fat). The dragon's upper torso is heavily bruised (muscle). The dragon's tail is severed.
