Roll To Dodge / all lowercase bizarrely awesome sorta-minimalist rtd
« on: September 03, 2018, 12:12:20 pm »
this is a minimalist rtd. sorta. you probably know the drill but here's how it works.
you roll a 1 you fail horribly.
you roll a 2 you just fail.
you roll a 3 nothing really happens.
you roll a 4 you sorta succeed.
you roll a 5 you succeed awesomely.
you roll a 6 you succeed too much.
7+ is just ridiculous, 0- is just terrifying.

if you don't post your actions i will do whatever the heck i want with your character. including maybe trading it to someone on the waitlist who wants it.

you are not permitted to use capital letters except in DOOM MUGs. using capital letters will trigger the above. this includes capitalizing the letter i.

the health system is tied into the rpg system. every player has hit points. if you reach negative x hit points where x is your maximum, you die. you can't do anything but wait to die while your hit points are negative.

Spoiler: restraints (click to show/hide)

the sheet:
Code: [Select]
name:
species:
description in haiku:
sex:
class:

five players max. waitlist is selected from at random, so everyone has an equal chance of getting in. if i get more than five sheets to start i'll choose the furriest and awesomemest of them all.

special rules:
cats get a free respawn. just one though.
if you join a game in our mafia subforum you get a free roll of 5 for one action of your choice.
if you are not having fun, summon a DOOM MUG.

Forum Games and Roleplaying / New Arms Race Interest Check:

Border Crossing Arms Race was fun but didn't really attract much attention. So this time round I'll see if there's any interest in my ideas.

And throw up a poll while I'm at it.

Mafia / Fallacy's BYOR 4: We're Done Here
« on: August 23, 2018, 03:24:14 pm »
You did kinda ask for it, I guess. Reason two was Spin was taking a while. Hopefully he'll get better soon.
~~~
((Optional flavor follows.))
"Okay, we've driven a perfectly normal town into madness and insanity using pink smoke. What's next?"
"We could always do that thing with the Manifestations again."
"You've noticed how few of them there are out there, right Nowhere? We might not get any participants. And then where would I be?"
"Can't we try?"
"Whatever. Up to you."
~~~
The rules:

Basic mafia rules are in effect(though in this round, the Mafia don't get a Mafiakill). Also a few reminders:
No sending PMs to other players(unless you're a mafia player, in which case you can send PMs to your scum buddy(ies)).
Don't directly quote your role PM(you may paraphrase it, and you are allowed to directly quote things I've said in thread). Don't directly quote your night action flavor or results. Paraphrasing is again fine. Please follow this rule.
If you're dead, you get one bah post(no game-relevant content). After that, no more posting. Unless you come back to life(role powers, eh?).
You may only take one action per phase unless your role notes an exception to this rule.

A special hammer system is in effect:
The game will consist of 72 hour days and 48 hour nights(the time will not pass during weekends). During the day, the day may end because of a hammer(getting the majority of the game's available votes on a player will lynch that player, ending the day), or because of the deadline. What makes this system different is that at LYLO or MYLO, the hammer system will not be active, and the only way to end the day will be via reaching the deadline. To prevent mod confirmation of the fact that it's MYLO or LYLO, the fact that the hammer system is not or is being used will not be announced.

With regards to extensions: each player has a personal extension which can be freely used by them to extend the day phase by 24 hours. A majority of players can vote to extend the day by 48 hours once per day(a supermajority can vote to shorten, instantly ending the day, in the same manner). On Day 1, the deadline will start off 48 hours later than normal, to account for the tendency of player to always extend on day 1.

With regards to actions, I will be using the Natural Action Resolution.

Any and all of the normal rules and whatnot may be subverted/modified/disabled/whatever by role powers.

There may be third parties present in the game.

This is a BYOR, meaning when you go in, you must also PM me something for me to build your role out of. What are you allowed to submit? Almost everything. Basically, if it doesn't violate the forum rules and guidelines, and I think I can make something fun out of it, it should be fine. I reserve the right to veto your role submission.

The theme this round is... well, there are two themes.

The first is Pacifism. The only way for somebody to die is the lynch. There is no Mafiakill, but there will be more mafia to compensate. If the number of mafia equals the number of non-mafia, the mafia will win. If there would be a no-lynch, the mafia will instead choose who to lynch.

The second is Money. At the start of every day, every living player gains 20$(on Day 1, each player gains 50$ instead). During every day, abilities will be put up for auction in various ways(for example public bid, private bid, closed bid, etc). When a player is lynched, their money is divided up among the people who were voting them. If a no-lynch occurs then the mafia get the money from the lynch subject. The mafia can transfer money among themselves during the night. The amount of money each player has is private but inferences can be made.

Are you up to the challenge? If you decide to go In, please try to find someone else to join the game with you.

Player list:
-hector13 -> heydude6(?)
-randomgenericusername -> Shakerag(?)
-TricMagic(?)
-IcyTea31(?)
-TheBiggerFish(?)
-Teneb(Lynched Day 3, A Shitpost)
-Maximum Spin(Lynched Day 1, A role based on the concept "infinite stack of turtles”)
-Caz(Lynched Day 2, Euglandina Rosea)
-Persus13(?)
-Deus Asmoth(?)
-Rockeater-> piratejoe(?)
-Sheldon(?)
-webadict(?)

Replacement list:
-Tiruin(?)

A little commentary: No In Again. No Sharkjumper. Just fun.

Forum Games and Roleplaying / SPAMNINJA
« on: July 24, 2018, 02:08:44 pm »
You are a ninja, a legendary warrior clad in black.

What sort of ninja are you?
A: Stealthy ninja. You sneak around, use disguises, and basically assassinate people when they least expect it. Start with Ninja Art of Shadow-Fading, Disguise Skill, Parkour Skill, and Stealth Skill.
B: Battle ninja. You charge the enemy shouting a war cry and stab the heck out of them. Start with Ninja Art of Substitution, Swordplay Skill, Evasion Skill, and Parkour Skill.
C: Sensei ninja. You are a wise and venerable ninja, old but skilled. You lead a small clan of ninjas. Start with Ninja Art of Substitution, Ninja Art of Shadow-Fading, Ninja Art of Smoke Blast, and all listed skills from the above two ninjas. Also you're Old and occasionally Haunted.
D: Catgirl ninja. You trick your foes into thinking you're harmless and crazy until you murderize them with your claws. Start with Ninja Art of Adorableness, Claw Skill, Climb Skill and Parkour Skill. You would probably be stealthy if you didn't wear a bright pink jumpsuit.
E: Techno ninja. You use a variety of gadgets to accomplish your objectives. Start with Ninja Art of Device Fabrication and Ninja Art of Stealth.

What time do you live in?
A: Feudal Japan. Samurai and ninja clash. Samurai do have their own special abilities...
B: The modern world. America.
C: The modern world, except it's a world of ninjas. No, not Naruto. Everyone is a ninja of some kind.
D: The modern world... well, mostly. By mostly I mean the apocalypse is about to begin.
E: Why is everything on fire?

General Discussion / The Bay 12 Friendship Matchup Thread
« on: July 06, 2018, 12:01:10 pm »
Or: online pen pals.

Do you ever wish you had someone to talk to about your life? About your hobbies? About your hopes and fears? About you? Well, you've come to the right place. Come introduce yourself, find someone else posting in this thread, and ask to talk to them in private. It's that simple.

Hi. My username is FallacyofUrist, often abbreviated FoU or Fallacy. I'm a young adult male currently living in America. I'm a student(and part-time fast food worker). I start college in the fall.

My hobbies include drawing, writing, fanfic reading, and hypnosis(on myself and any subjects I can find, currently none). Also forum game design. My interests include computer science, drawing, writing, fursuiting(and making(yes, I'm a furry, honestly if you haven't guessed that yet...)), hypnosis, and deviant psychology(I'm fascinated by the minds of people extremely different from the norm). Yes, I do think there's a difference between hobbies and interests. An interest is something you study or want to study, a hobby is something you actually act on. I draw(sometimes), write(sometimes), read fanfic(too much) and hypnotize(rarely) so I consider those hobbies.

My core personality trait is analyticalness. My favorite kind of music is electronica(my favorite artist or artists, the Glitch Mob), followed by nerdcore.

Roll To Dodge / Wanderlust: Arrival! Welcome to the Wanderlust!
« on: June 11, 2018, 05:03:25 pm »
Life is boring. That's your thought as life goes on. Wake. Eat. Work. Eat. Work. Return. Sleep. Repeat. Everyone's saying that this is the way to live life. There are those who rebel against this pattern, though.

That's not you, though. You never had the nerve. Or the opportunity.

Until now.

When you wake up one morning, there's a flyer attached to your face.

"Bored with life? Tired of the stress? Tarry no more! You've been invited on the trip of a lifetime courtesy of rich philanthropist Benjamin Robert Octavian Beth! You and six others will travel aboard an experimental ship for one year! You'll see the worlds' wonders! Learn from the best in every field! Destress under the care of our staff! Have fun! When you return, we'll help you get your dream job using your new education! Just fill out the form below!"

The flyer then lists an address.

The choice is obvious.

Here's the tubular and cool OOC thread!
~~~
The fabric of reality spun and spun, until seven holes spun into existence, and from those seven holes seven Young Gods came!
The dark anti-fun god MA'ROOK felt the intrusion into his realm, and frowned a deep dark frown. How dare these Young Gods dare to bring fun to his realm! No fun would be permitted! All would be holy light!
MA'ROOK stepped into the LIGHT PALACE, home to the holiest of relics and the holiest of minions! And MA'ROOK frowned a deeeeeep dark frown and shouted to his minions!
"Seven evil Young Gods have come! They will bring treachery and madness to us all unless they are eradicated! Thus says I, MA'ROOK!"
MA'ROOK then mustered his forces and prepared his holy artifacts to wage a war against fun...
MA'ROOK has been in this realm a long time, and has prepared for such an occurrence. He may allocate 20 PP among a bunch of Minions and Magic Items(he made them beforehand) during the first turn, in addition to his normal 10 PP allowance! Furthermore, his brainwashed special weapon Fortuna the Victory Woman is ready to serve him!
(16) Unit Zero bored a portal into some kind of factory, constructing all sorts of advanced devices! No recreational devices were among them, however. The factory workers chanted a chant of praise to the anti-fun MA'ROOK, but Unit Zero could tell they were bored out of their minds! Time for fun!
(19) Rooster Cocoa-Brown bored a portal into... some kind of secret base?
"We've been expecting you!"
It was none other than her friends Super Math Woman, Professor Father, Portalopener, Farseer, and Basekeeper? But where was Fortuna?
"The evil anti-fun MA'ROOK has taken Fortuna and brainwashed her to strike against fun! We'll need you to lead us to retake her!"
(7) Space DJ bored a hole into some kind of church... why were people starting to scream? At least it didn't look like a really big church. Maybe that meant it was in a small town instead of a big city more defended by MA'ROOK's forces?
(11) Erin Quill bored a hole into... what, was he inside a windmill? And why was there a flaming zebra man wearing sunglasses? Was that another Young God?
(10) Definitely a windmill, Blarg thought. And who was this guy with the lab coat? Another Young God?
(10) Zkator crashed into the same windmill and barked in confusion. Who were these people, Young Gods?
(10) Then Kool Kat bored a hole into the world and dropped onto Zkator's head. Who were all these people, Young Gods?
"Hi guys! It's me Foxmox the Awesome Young God and master of fun! Ma'Rook will not be an easy opponent but without you there is no hope of bringing fun to this world! I'll see about bringing in more Young Gods later but for now I'm having trouble doing that and you're on your own! Good luck!"
38
I'm not sure what happened here. I guess part of me just got carried away. Oh well.
~~~
Ignore that text please. Getting carried away is fun!
Here's the super awesome IC thread!
Anyway!

You are YOUNG GODS newly arrived in this world! But somebody got here first! The evil anti-fun god MA'ROOK has arrived, set up shop, and brainwashed everybody with his "holy light" to be anti-fun! You must free the world from the clutches of MA'ROOK and bring fun back to the world!

Any questions?

Seeing as there are no games on the queue and only one game in play, and I suspect there may be demand for a good beginner game, I've decided to put a new game into signups.

This is Mostly Vanilla Mafia. The premise: every player has a power role, and the power roles are either vanilla or Mostly Vanilla.

Vanilla roles include those such as Tracker, Cop, Vigilante, Roleblocker, JOAT, Bodyguard, Watcher, Strongman, Ninja, Godfather, Serial Killer, Cult Leader, Framer, Bus Driver, Reviver, Super Saint, Magistrate, and the like. Basic roles, commonly recognized.

If a role is Mostly Vanilla, it will be a vanilla role with a twist. A tracker that can only track people who voted them in the past day? A serial killer that also tracks their target? A cop that investigates their target's target, but isn't told who their target targeted? That sort of thing.

Spoiler: Game Rules: (click to show/hide)

Do note that I'll be running whatever setup I create through Mephansteras(or any other experienced mods who'd like to offer feedback) to make sure it's balanced. The same goes for the game rules. If anyone has any questions or feedback, I'd love to hear it. The same goes for game flavor. If you like, when you go in, you can PM me... something. Whatever. I'll incorporate it into the game flavor.

If you decide to join the game, I'd like to throw in an optional objective: try to find someone else in the forums, or that you know in real life, that you think may be interested in playing mafia for the first time, and ask if they want to sign up for this game. This subforum needs new players, badly.

Forum Games and Roleplaying / Design a Thing
« on: May 01, 2018, 10:21:30 pm »
Yo. We're going to be describing some sort of thing. From a spaceship to a vending machine, from an egg to a couch... this is Design a Thing.

To play, describe, in some manner, the object that is the current focus of the thread. Once at least ten posts have been made describing the thing, at any time you may set a new thing to be described.
~~~
Let's start with the Mage Association Official Vending Machine. This rectangular contraption of metal dispenses a wide variety of potions and other limited-use magical items for gold coins. Thieves should beware of the integrated curse-based defense system.
Forum Games and Roleplaying / The Castle of Bizarre Magical Items
« on: April 07, 2018, 08:54:18 pm »
The wagon stops. Finally, you have arrived at your destination. Your sentence. Your prison. Your new home. The Castle of Bizarre Magical Items stands in front of you. The massive keep's doors swing open to receive you, when touched by the Chief Normalizer Wizard's staff.
"This is where you belong, bizarre filth. People like you can hardly be called wizards. We cannot take your magic, unfortunately, but we can make sure you never have a chance to spread your bizarreness ever again. Welcome to your prison."
With the Chief Normalizer Wizard's regulated Telekinesis spell, you and your fellow "bizarre" wizards are pushed through the doors. They close behind you. There won't be any escaping, you're sure. Probably. The castle walls have been reinforced with the strongest regulated defensive magics available to the licensed wizards of the Golden Kingdom, as have the doors, as have the windows. A whole host of other defensive magics have no doubt been used to secure the castle and its surroundings. Oh well. At least in here you can practice your bizarre magics in peace. And of course the Castle is also used to hold bizarre items in addition to non-licensed wizards. There might be opportunity here, if you can overlook the fact that you've been imprisoned.
Q: What's this?
A: A simple little Arms Race I'm throwing up.
Q: No, I mean, what's the concept?
A: Arstotzka and Kolechia have finally given up their open war of many years to begin a secret war of many weeks. Both sides are trying to get their agents through the other side's border. A side can use agents that have successfully crossed the enemy border to perform missions. The objective is to assassinate and possibly replace the enemy side's important government officials.
Q: So what are the rules?
A: They're very simple. See below.
Spoiler: Rules (click to show/hide)
Q: Uh, that's complicated.
A: Feel free to ask questions. Anyway, it could be worse. You don't have to worry about resources for the most part, after all.
Q: So how do I sign up?
A: Just post in this thread about your interest and what side you're playing for.
Q: You have posting guidelines, right?
A: Three rules: No salt. If you think I made a mistake, you may appeal, once. Stick to your own team's thread. One guideline: if your designs are the only ones being voted up, repeatedly, over multiple phases, maybe take a break from posting designs to give someone else a chance to do it. New rules may be added as needed.
Q: Why can't we just close the border completely instead of going over possibly fake papers?
A: The Minister of Labor has forbidden it. Our country needs immigrants for its economy!
Q: Shenanigans?
A: Yes. If you manage to pull off a replacement, ask and we can discuss options.
Q: Are you going to update your mafia game?
A: It's really jumped the shark, hasn't it? Yes. Give me a minute.
OOC: To celebrate my birthday, on which nothing bizarre happened, I've decided to test out a genre of game which I have never seen on Bay 12: the self insert journal. What if my life instead took a more interesting turn today? Together, we will create that story.
Inspirations:
ChronoMouse, by Tomasque.
Various random generator games.
Various journal SI fics on other forums.
~~~
Log 1:

I've written several self inserts for fun. Never did I think that it would actually happen to me. I'm in a cubic room made of a pure white substance. Oddly, I can still see even though there is no discernible light source. There are no discernible entrances or exits.

After giving it some thought, I've decided that I'm not hallucinating or dreaming. My dreams are never so vivid, and I don't think a hallucination would be so static.

Of note is the fact that my watch has been replaced with something a bit more interesting: A sleek black armband with a touchscreen. Tapping the screen has revealed three applications: "Dimensional Journey", "Memory Jaunt", and "Communication Journal". Each of the apps has included no manual that I can see. Still, the apps themselves give some clue of their function. Dimensional Journey shows a grid of one hundred squares, each numbered from 001 to 100. Most of the squares are white apart from the numbers, but a diagonal of them going from the 001 corner to the 100 corner are purple, with the exception of the 100 corner, which is gold. Based on the app's title and the grid, it may be meant to enable dimensional travel.

If I'm right, I'm now a multiversal traveller. This is going to be a pain.

Memory Jaunt shows an analog clock, without any hands. This is the most confusing of the three apps.

Communication Journal opens an interface suspiciously similar to the Bay 12 forums, on which I am now writing.

In this case, I'm hoping that I'm right. I've read self-insert fiction on Spacebattles formatted like a journal, with the author able to communicate with the forum in order to receive advice. If I'm right, I'm communicating with Bay 12 and you guys should be able to respond to me. I may be a loner, but I'm fairly sure even I would go mad without human contact.

Please tell me I'm right. If I'm not...
