What about making a new model that does both the offroad market, and the SUV market? Migrant PT 4 looks like it can do the job, and you can cut the roof off the back and make it fit offroad utility too. That, or Sport seems like something that's not being catered to right now? Maybe make a little side project out of a small plot with the LMP body?

Posting to watch, though I'll probably forget the forums exist again.

I mean, no matter how you look at it. The topic as a whole is problematic to talk about, and usually devolves into something horrifying.

It's been so for the last 2100 years (probably longer).

Then you invent the internet and people start entrenching their positions on the issue irregardless of what's actually going on in the real world.

I use steam as my primary source to talk about games, using the forums. You've probably seen me in a few of the "stop censoring us" discussions.

As mentioned before, we can openly talk about stuff like flaying elves to death with minecarts shooting goblets, and we can create creative ways to murder nobles "because they mandated the kids get toys". I can kind of see how people saying they'd openly murder trans/intersex dwarves in game would warrant moderation, but it's ALMOST a double standard, especially considering it's a game.

Except for one thread, overall things have been relatively civil on Steam compared to most of the time for other games. My standards are probably quite different though from the rest of us here.

Edit: Okay, five minutes later and it's going downhill again.

"I've never played, but from the three PCGamer articles I skimmed over the past decade. . .."

This is the tweet they are mad over.
[tweet imgur link]

And no one is posting it alongside their complaints they ckeep saying *redacted* because once anyone reads that they will see how silly the outrage is.

Alas I'm well aware that's what they're upset about now (I mod the /r/dwarffortress subreddit, for my sins, apparently, and I wouldn't even be mad if this comment got removed if I showed you some of my modmail screenshots over that tweet,) but this thread of course predates that tweet and the Steam forum was already nonsense.

It's a shame that apparently you can't turn off a Steam forum, even for a non-existing game.
Oh, you can. Just make a bot that deletes everything once it comes up.

You'll get railed against HARD for "censorship", but you can do it from one account.

I turned off cloud saves, but at least once in the past I didn't have any problem transferring them onto the computer I was using.

That said, cloud saves (is there any limit on the size or number?) might be useful as long as your internet connection speed permits them. Dwarf Fortress saves have a certain reputation regarding size, particularly with bigger worlds...
There's apparently a limit on size, so they're not sure if it's a good idea to enable them yet (Reddit Q&A, I think).
From what I've seen, you usually have a 2GB cap per game that you have.

There's no fundamental format difference between cloud saves and regular saves.
Aren't they on a Steam cloud server somewhere?
How would you share them with someone on Classic?
(Have no idea how cloud saves work - genuinely interested)
I was fairly sure cloud saves are both local and on a steam, I'm probably wrong though.
You're right. You've got one copy somewhere on your hard drive. Then it's up to the developer to set what the cloud uploader looks for to save online.

This is nothing but a prelude to the death of Dwarf Fortress. Every developer who has pulled this has sold out, and before long the free version is missing major features and updates, sometimes delayed by months, sometimes not present at all, and eventually? It stops being updated all together. All of those excited in the moment will, in but a few years, know exactly what I'm talking about when it inevitably comes.
I doubt this, but it's still a valid concern. We're due for the "long wait" anyways, and that's not going to be a good thing to have happen after an initial release.

I was mostly concerned with how steam would handle having nothing but text files to work with for mods
It'll work fine. All the mod author has to do is tell steam where each file goes in the file structure for the game. I've played more than a few games which relied on text files via workshop, and nothing has exploded (yet).

Thanks for the advice guys. It's been helping a bit.

I just found out today that the house burned completely down to the foundation today, so it's been tough.

An old friend of my mom has found us a trailer to live in. It helps, I guess, but I'm still having a hard time.

Right now, no. Believe it or not, my friends in southern California are dealing with the exact same thing I am, but in a different fire. Other than that, all of my family is affected directly from the fire, we had 3 houses in the area.

I'm an evacuee of the most recent "camp fire" that happened to burn through my town in the period of under an hour, and is still burning today.

I'm really posting this because I don't really do social media, but I've been with DF for a long time. I really don't know what to do. I feel like I can trust the advice here though.

I'm at the evac shelter here, but I'm incredibly depressed. Mostly because we ended up leaving one of our pets at home, and I'm almost certain that our house is gone, and they couldn't get out (they hid in one of the rooms of the house as flames were bearing down on us).

Has anyone else been through something like this? It feels like I lost everything. Any advice at all would help.

Ownership of the site might have transferred at some point during the war. So, instead of you razing an eleven retreat, you ended up razing a dwarven occupied retreat at some point along the way.

Either way, treason, accidental or not is punished by a good o'l hammering.

How about observer skill? It's used for detecting incoming attacks.
I thought it was used to detect things which were sneaking.
That too, but since the combat rewrite that added manual blocking it has a new purpose. It gives info about attack types, and when and where they're going to land (in adventure mode.) I suspect it might affect parry rate for your dwarves.

I might be able to give it a wing some time in the next two days on the most recent build. Sounds interesting at least.

As an example, one of my dorfs had a bit of a verbal fight with another coworker in the library, and apparently it caused a fist fight (that I was unaware of).

A while later after mulling over the thought, he went from "very quick to anger" to "is quick to anger". It didn't change very much, but it changed.
