Yeah, what's the news on the tablet?

It's been mailed off. They said in their original email that it could take as long as 30 days to repair if they're particularly busy. In the meantime, I've been practicing with the mouse. I think I'm getting confident enough to actually do some sort of side story with the mouse until the drawing tablet comes in.

what about praying to the god of tears?
oh and bonus

Hey Rumrusher, how would you feel if I added the links to your drawings to the first page under the guise of "Fanart"? :)

I can't win! I didn't draw the trunk! :P

Actually, I didn't draw the proper beast. That disqualifies me.

I vote for Cerol and his skinless monitor with the lovely swinging trunk.

Also, if you want your men to do something specific, but don't want them taking cover when engaged, like for instance - when charging a lone sniper with a full squad of men. Make sure the "free movement" button is toggled to none. That way they won't do things like - advance with bounding overwatch when the situation really doesn't call for it. They also won't throw back enemy grenades or find new cover if the wall they were crouched behind gets blown apart by HE rounds, so turning free movement off requires a little more micromanagement. But hey, at least you won't get guys diving down into a bush when you tell them to charge a sniper's roost.

But realistically, you probably shouldn't have charged a squad of men at a sniper without laying down a bit of covering fire first. :P

Yes, suppression works in this game. If you see your men with their heads ducked down behind cover where they might be better off shooting, direct control them.

I just watched that tank video and I must say, I'm impressed. Are they fighting Russians, or is it some made-up middle eastern nation?

Oh, you think the Men of War voices are bad, you haven't played Soldiers: Heroes of World War 2, have you? Soldiers: HoWW2 is the original game that spawned Faces of War and Men of War. Some of the lines in that game blurted out by infantry men in the heat of combat will make you laugh.

It seems to me that games made by Russians always tend to have really bad voice acting.

How much changes there are to the actual gameplay from original MoW to Assault Squad (graphics don't matter). I was looking for some custom missions and noticed that there are way less of them to AS than original. So I was thinking getting the original as well, but I was wondering if the gameplay is somehow worse in it than in AS.

Also the single player missions are way too big/long for my taste, and I was wondering if anyone has found some smaller custom maps.

EDIT: For anyone interested, I just found dynamic campaign generator: http://www.digitalmindsoft.eu/forums/viewtopic.php?f=153&t=9460

The gameplay is pretty much the same, the differences between the two games are basically the types of missions available to play, and better multiplayer balancing (I think there's a slight change in the interface too). The original Men of War has missions that are a lot more varied, as in, one mission plays out like an actual full-scale battle with you in direct control of a division's assets. While other missions have you playing a small group of commandos looking to infiltrate enemy lines or destroy certain objectives. Assault Squad has one type of singleplayer mission available - Skirmish. That amounts to every mission being a full-scale battle with numerous enemy forces.

Although the Skirmish missions in Assault Squad are loads of fun, you're missing out on some quality missions in the original Men of War. Like being part of a Russian human wave attack against heavily defended German positions, and trying to rally the survivors to actually clear out the fortifications, one machine gun nest at a time. Or having a small team of commandos navigate around a small island filled with Germans, silencing sentries with throwing knives and hiding their bodies from patrols in an attempt to sneak into a submarine facility. Good times.

'tis a sad day when I am the one who has to point out, to be sure every knows, that ass is referring to the animal not the anatomical area...

Yes, but it's a lot more fun to imagine it as a big pair of cheeks wreaking havoc on the fort.

I actually had the caption read; "Y'know, when they said there was a huge ass running amok in the fortress, I wasn't picturing it being... y'know... a huge ass." Dwarf2: "That's not the half of it... You haven't seen it's trunk." but it looked too crowded and maybe sounded a little too crude? :P

I have one:

 Iltahamara Raehome:
"A great eyeless ass. It has a fat bulging trunk and it has a regal bearing. Beware it's fire!

I'm sorry, I just couldn't resist dusting off the old mouse pad to draw this one.

So, again, you can detonate explosives with mines?

Any explosive can detonate other explosives. I remember seeing a video where a guy took a scout, loaded him up with 200mm HE rounds from a disabled Sturmtiger, then had him sneak behind enemy lines to destroy a Pershing and a couple of support vehicles in one go.

Actually, I just found the video again, so you can see for yourself:

So, did anyone else accidentally smother their wife in a bid to comfort her with pillows?

I swear, I just wanted to make sure she was comfortable, maybe have her elevate her leg or something. The next thing I know, she's apologizing for slowing me down and using my tender gesture (the pillow) as a means to part from this world. Crazy bitch.

I broke my own rule, which was to have blood in every episode.  I guess the next one will have to have twice as much.

I've always liked your comics.

Just thought I'd let you know. :)
