DF Gameplay Questions / Re: How do i use war/hunting dogs?
« on: May 10, 2015, 07:54:50 am »
The situation was critical, our drinks became 0. Only one thing could save us: A merchant caravan with a shitload of brew-able plants.
And suddently, a caravan has come. It had a shitload of brew-able plants. And also a lot of fungus seeds. Now we have a lot of food, a lot of drinks, a lot of seeds, a lot of skilled axedwarves. TIME TO CONQUER THE WORLD :D

So i got the farms running even if we are short on seeds, the militia seem to get bugged only when i try to  kill that giant hamster. I also plan on creating a second squad with moar axedwarves and three archers. 300000 wealth created in the second test, so i guess stuff is going pretty food. Now i only need to learn how the whole...mechanic stuff works. I tried to let the water go in the fortress with a channel, but i totally didnt succeed.

You should check if the stuff  in the stockpiles is being moved, maybe the brewer tries to get something and it Gets moved

Are you sure  you have these plants in your stockpiles, and that you gave your dwarves the permission to brew drink from them?

I checked my stuff and i had seeds. I couldn't find out why the fuck they weren't farming, and then i found out...

For the whole goddamn time i discovered this game i thought that when you create a farm plot your dwarves with "Farming" would start planting seeds AUTOMATICALLY. No, you have to select the stuff you want to plant.

Now that's embarassing... :(

Now there is another problem: My 10 axedwarves went full retard and when i tell them to kill some stuff, they dont give a fuck and keep training. They should be equipped with steel axes, shields and helms. Maybe the problem is with the helmets, because they arent wearing them. And maybe somehow this causes them to get retarded, i dont know.

Could it be because i made all the "Lavish meals" i could do? Do they cook seeds or something?

Tanks to the dogs we've managed to deal with kobold thieves, more kobold thieves, then we had to wrestle some undead horse hair, and i finally built a small wall. And i'm running short on food and my 4 2x2 farms are being useless. And i dug huge rooms without any support and somehow no cave-ins. And in only year 2 with around 60 people half of them is idling the whole time. AND there is no water to be found. not even a little aquifer.

Great.

v.006 ("Masterwork Reborn") only has dwarves and kobolds at the moment. You'll need to download v.6.2 for the other races to be playable.

Note that v.6.2, as noted in the thread title, runs on DF34.11 so some of the 40.XX improvements (stepladders, non-destructive plant gathering, minor hauling improvements, multi-tile trees) won't be present.

.

Assuming you only posted here because the other thread is locked, did you change the "Fort" setting on the civs in the launcher (Civilizations tab)? By default, I think only dwarves are fort-enabled; the other races being mostly "active" (e.g. present during world gen but not fort-enabled). Note that changing those settings will require genning a new world.

If you have more than one race fort-enabled, you can determine to which race a civ belongs by, during fort-selection, tabbing through the lists until you see the neighboring races. The first one in the list will be your own civ's race.

Oooh yeah right i had to download v.6.2... i totally did it...

Probably its written somewhere but...how do i make this thing work? I created the world and everything, there is the graphic mod but it only lets me play as the dwarf fortress. I changed the things in "Masterwork DF" so i should be able to play as hermit gnome and the other cool things...

I tried to fight a bronze colossus with a bronze short sword. He punched me out of existence after killing my friends.
