Indeed, that would be pretty cool. As it is, you can explore the abandoned fortress. By the way, I gave the skellie red wounds everywhere so if he isn't dead you can kill him as long as you strike the first blow.

You happened to be in the courtyard and were one of the first to die. Also, region folder for adventuring will be uploaded soon.

Miner's Log ???:

He's coming.

The mayor. The mayor went berserk. He suddenly sprouted tons of muscles, became incredibly agile and legendary with his weapon, and started killing everyone.

The carnage...

Events as they happened on 17th Timber, 1053, Late Autumn

The mayor stood there. The peasant looked confused. He had been feeling better when he was talking to the mayor, and suddenly he had become silent.

Snap.

It was almost audible. You could see it in the mayor's eyes, a growing mad rage. The pupils turned red. "Oh my," whispered the peasant.

Outside, the champion marksdwarf looked down at her chest, saw blood spurting from an unknown source. And collapsed to the ground.

The mayor drew his sword, and sliced the peasant's head off in one flick of a wrist.

He slowly made his way outside, and proceeded to kill everyone he could fine. War dogs went flying, smashing into reinforcements. After killing a few random civilians, the mayor looked like he knew what he was doing a lot better. The casualties multiplied. Dwarves died.

Unsuspecting guards and would-be soldiers fought in the barracks, unaware of the carnage above and how it would soon descend to them.

Dralin, up in the markdwarf tower, gasped for air, crawling around on the floor, trailing blood. Her career as a champion, so shortlived, was over. Stiffy, also a champion, was resting peacefully, her death would come later.

In the magnetite mining area, the mayor sent a mule flying all the way across, slamming into a wall on the other side and exploding.

Frantic leaders tried to order dwarves inside, resulting in mass confusion from the poorly designed civilian defense system. The dwarves fled down the hallway as the mayor sent corpses everywhere.

He chased the group down into the fancy bedrooms, where corpses flew across the giant dining room. He ran into the barracks, and promptly slew the training troops. The population had gone from 75 to 49. And casualties grew.

Suddenly, a guard who had trained particularly well dealt a blow that killed the mayor. A hushed silence fell. Was the menace gone?

No.

The mayor rose, as a zombie, exactly as skilled, and began his killing spree again. The outpost manager tried to fight him, sustained injuries, and ran. The carnage continued, until all were dead.

I realized my fortress didn't stand a chance against goblins.

Dralin progressed to Elite Marksdwarf.

Miner's Log 4:

We are in good shape. We have so much iron we couldn't possibly find something to do with it all, enough platinum for many nobles, a vein of malachite for copper if we need it, and many, many rooms for our immigrants.

Unfortunately, we don't have enough beds, doors, and nearly enough chests and cabinets for our many, many rooms.

While I was digging, I started chatting with my fellow miner. I learned a lot about her.

We've had some troubles, including having to dig out a masterwork engraving, and  the fact that our ranger apparently died three times and survived while hunting a tiger. His friends were not consoled, however, and a legendary bone carver has been jailed. (No, not named.)

We've killed quite a lot of kobolds, and our markdwarves are leveling impressively. The one who calls herself 'Dralin' is already elite!

We have 11 guards in the Fortress Guard, and we set up our fortifications a while ago. Three bridges, two of which remain closed until traders come from that direction. Our catapult tower is being created, and it will surely give us a large advantage on the goblins.

In other, also strange news, a mountain goat apparently reported a kobold thief to the mayor. A mountain goat. Which the kobold promptly fled from.

Miner's Log 3:

A fortress so new, and already we idle! I fear we have not enough to do.

In other news, an elven caravan arrived. We robbed them blind, of course.

Miner's Log 1:

So much is finished already.

We have the noble rooms, decorated fabulously. I am truly envious.
We have stockpiles, full to the brim.
We have workshops of all kinds, everything we need.
We have bedrooms, finally. My ingenious layout works like a charm and fits 84 dwarves.
And finally, we have riches. Tons of riches. Iron, platinum, copper, rubies. I've even heard tell of adamantine.

We have many able-bodied dwarves, capable of performing multitudes of tasks. We even have legendaries! What could possibly go wrong?

Miner's Log 2

They laughed... they said it was ridiculous... they said it couldn't happen!

I'll show them! I'll show them all!

Soon it will be complete... Clearbreached the Seal of Bows!

Yes... the limestone door.

I just realized my character is female. Damn, she's the most skilled miner. Oh well.

Additionally, build a floor that sticks out over a chasm, station the useless on it, and destroy the ties to land. I lost 27 people, but all my recruits moved off to drink/eat. =( I put a meeting place there.

Not enough food to go around? Just draft all the useless people into a squad and have them spar by a chasm, pit or magma chamber.

No, I've seen the options. I had platinum, just never wanted to make plate mail out of it.

I didn't notice a mandate my mayor made until it was almost over. The mayor gave me extra time to kick my metalsmiths' asses into gear and make 3 gauntlets. =)
