Let me just clear up a few things about attacking armies:

  • Only one army can attack at a time. Any number of armies can defend. If you want to all attack at once, you must merge your armies into one and attack with that. Otherwise, they will attack one after the other, drastically weakening your offense and most likely wasting every soldier you send into battle. Also, armies will move at the speed of their slowest unit.
  • Defending armies get a defense bonus from terrain, as well as the city, as long as it belongs to their country. Forests 25%, Swamps/Hills 50%, Mountains 75%. The maximum defense bonus is 200% with all the city upgrades on a mountain. Siege engines can reduce city defense bonuses, but not natural ones.
  • There's a little counter on the bottom right of the movement UI that shows how many squares you can move. You can no longer move when it equals 0 or less. You can move into terrain that costs more than you have left as long as you're still above 0.
  • Armies are exponentially more powerful the more units they have over the other army, because it allows them to deal more damage at once, weakening the other army on their next turn.

So keep all that in mind when you're fielding units against each other.

I'd be fine with sequential turns. Anything to get rid of the luck-based initiative system. Or, hell, if it was decided as soon as the turn started and everyone knew what order they were going in. That would be fine.

Yes, as per the Knight in Chess.
You mean the bishop, right? Knights move and attack in an 'L'.
No, I mean the knight.

e:f;b

So I'm looking through knacks and I've noticed a distinct lack of crossbow and gun knacks.
All Bow knacks apply to crossbows. Guns don't have knacks.

Also, I found this in Spear knacks:
Quote
Handling the Situation
Requirements: Specialization: Spear VI
It’s occasionally necessary to get a grip on yourself to avoid being shafted. When blocking an attack with your spear, you may add your spear’s damage dice to your attack dice pool. You may not carry over damage bonuses. (ex. “+4”)
First of all, how do you block with a weapon? The section on blocking (p.123) only mentions blocking with a shield or buckler. Secondly, why would an increase in the attack dice pool matter when on defence?
From Step 1b, Section 7.4:
Quote
If the target has a shield and rolled higher than the attacker’s roll to hit, the blow is blocked. If the difference between the target’s roll and the attacker’s roll is at least equal to the shield’s Counter-Attack Rating, they may counter-attack. If the target has a buckler, they may not block ranged attacks . The target can also choose to try and block with their weapon, as long as it is a melee attack, in which case they roll with downgraded attack dice to block the attack.

Yes, as per the Knight in Chess.

I'm afraid not. That's simply not within the game's rules. Unarmed is unarmed. Dagger is dagger.

622
He needs military aid, I suspect, and you're on the wrong side of the island for that.

In addition to fixing the broken as fuck combat mechanics, it would be neat if Vanigo added the ability for two countries to make (and break) an alliance, allowing them to assist each other in battles as though they were on the same side.

623
Yeah, like I said, right now I'm being lenient. In the future, I'll check. And being alert all the time has its downsides.

Turn 5, Part 1
Alphonse jogs 11m to the left of the Undead Skirmisher and swings at it with his rondels. (AD:6,1;ED:8,3) The Undead displays surprisingly good reflexes, creaking as it dodges his swings.

625
My bad.

626
Helena opens the door.

As soon as you enter the room, your eyes are met with a body lying on its back on the desk, its rotten face still gazing up at the ceiling. Cobwebs cover every surface. Whatever killed this man is no longer here.

Turn Order: Alphonse, Hordor, Undead Skirmisher, Gilbert, Malcolm, Helena

Turn 4
Darek opens the door.

Nelly walks 6m north.

Svante does nothing.

Ronald draws his short sword.

Ricard does nothing.

628
Nope. You can never make more than one attack with your fists, unless you purchase the Knack that allows you to do so. You simply won't receive penalties for attacking with your off hand if you lose your dominant one.

'fraid not. LfP is only for games that, you know, have players. Suggestion games just have suggesters.

My bad -- I guess I changed it when I moved that line from the Combat section so there'd be less d5s in the book. The rest of my post stands.
