Goblins don't drink booze (unless someone sticks it in a mug and hands it to them, apparently).

Good, not like we have any anyway, because logically carnivorous stone-age hunter-gatherers don't comprehend things like brewing. :V

Guests do not drink or eat, until they join your civ.

I've encountered this issue myself as well. Get the message that the caravan arrived, in my case bypassing the depot I apparently didn't have, and never saw any caravan.

After a little while, I took down the trade depot, and rebuilt it, and it (the caravan) appeared at the corner of the map, everything working as usual.

Oh, and there was that one instance in which the wagon exploded when the caravan arrived. That one was amusing.

The merchants also got stuck off map, because I can see their clothes and armors in stockpile menu.
But I can't see them in the unit menu.

Well, it seemed that happened when I built a bridge over the edge of the map. The spot was where the goblins and the caravans usually entered the map from.
I don't know if they related, but I haven't seen a single goblin for 2 years.

Goblin1: Hey they built a giant atomsmasher on our way.
Goblin2: It is terrifying, let's turn back.
Goblin3: You are right, we should wait until they remove the bridge.
Troll: But we can jam the bridge or just walk around it.
Goblins: Shut up, you are not supposed to talk.

Against goblins, I think it is much more efficient to train a squad of soldiers than building walls. The first wave always have only 1 squad of goblins and your own soldiers can eat them for breakfast. After that you can train them further until everyone is a weapon master.

I don't think they are essential. Once I forewent them completely my fort worked just fine, at least for a new years. My current fort has all of them, though, I like seeing all kinds of guests.

Yeah, haven't tried dfhack for 42.06 yet.
By the way, why did the caravans stop showing up? Only a few guards actually entered the map everytime I got the message.

Well, the caravans haven't shown up for a while but I still got the message they had arrived.
At first I didn't pay attention because I didn't need to trade anymore. But when I checked my stockpile menu I found some "red" items. Trying to locate the items showed somewhere the caravans enter the map but I couldn't actually see the items.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

 :P

I usually don't have any idea with the fort should look before I start one. When the basic layout is done I'm just to lazy to change it.

I found my dwarves had cut down more trees than the agreement allowed by accident.
Quickly! Hide the logs before the elves see them!!!!

That'll work for iron and steel and such, but weapons and armor made of adamantine require three times as many wafers.
Ah, thank you. It's good to know.

A miner died on a tower cap. The tower cap was in the water and there was no path to it...I had to dig a channel to retrieve his corpse.
I wonder if he climbed all the way there and starved himself. I also found one of my probing tunnels was flooded, so maybe he mined through the lake bottom, escaped and then was trapped on that mushroom tree.

I tried your save on my mac (no mods or utilities) and confirmed the same thing.

I wonder if this is related to the visiting human warrior that randomly started attacking everyone in sight as soon as a siege started in my fort? Some sort of bug with visitors and sieges.

Is it possible some of the attackers are cousins of a certain visitor?

Oh, does it mean I should stop recruiting goblin mercenaries?

DF Gameplay Questions / Re: Finding vampires...how?
« on: March 06, 2016, 07:32:28 pm »
Hmm, I haven't found any vampires for a long time. I think that's because I always use domitories?
Will a vampire attack when there're witnesses?
