Roll To Dodge / Re: Special People: Everybody Lies
« on: August 31, 2015, 08:39:17 am »
((So our team consists of George, the healer, John, the machine builder, Rune, the animorph shapeshifter, Ron, the muscled superhuman, Saevus, the living armor, and Adam, the wildcard.  Our opponent is Nick who, based on the post describing the entity battles, will fight us as a giant bird creature that flies high above us and shoots down electrical attacks at us.

Since only two of us can fly, I think our best chance of winning will be to hide somewhere at the beginning of the battle and let John and Rune buff themselves up with machinery & biomass respectively.  Then once both of them are powerful enough, they can fly up to Nick and clip his wings.  After Nick is grounded, all of us can just rush him and finish him off.

That's just my idea, though.  If there's no IC reason for our characters to work out a plan like this, then just ignore it.  George certainly isn't gonna be coming up with battle strategies.))

Continue hiding and listening.  If found by a friendly dog, resist urge to smile and pet the dog.

((Hmm... is it possible for a player to become an entity?))

((Probably not without something special happening, like how Irene gained the power of Amethyst back in Mission 2A, and used it to provide Stellar with more power and save a few folks.  Under normal circumstances, I doubt most of the entities would let their "champions" become more powerful than them.  Of course, I'm not Parisbre56, so take my opinion with a grain of salt.))

He points towards his chest.
"Guilty as charged on both counts. Sometimes we get an avatar like Sir Smokesalot over there" he says, pointing at Charlie "or Nick here" he continues, rubbing the crow on his shoulder under its beak, which responds by closing its eyes, cawing and biting his arm softly "but most of the time it's just telepathic comments. As long as someone is powerful enough, abides to certain rules and... let's say 'signs an agreement', they can be an entity."
George takes a deep breath and closes his eyes in concentration.  After several seconds, he opens his eyes and says:
"Ok, so you, Nick, and the smoking guy are powerful entities.  Is everyone else here in the Staging Area some kind of entity too?  How many entities are there?"

George listens to the answers, and says afterward:
"Well, I've still got dozens of questions, but I think I know enough and I'm tired of talking.  Thanks for telling me all this.  I guess I'll just go along with whatever happens next.  Eh, not that I have a choice anyway."

Staging Area

"Among other things. And no, the others didn't bring me here. I came here on my own." he says, letting that sink in for a few moments.
George, still not getting it, has a look of curiosity on his face.
"Came here on your own?  Wow, so you have the ability to travel to other dimensions too?  Are you just visiting this place?"

Before even hearing Roger's response, George pipes in with another question.
"Oh wait, hold that thought.  You said earlier that each of the people picked for these Games were chosen by some kind of 'entity'.  What is an Entity, exactly?  If it's some kind of annoying disembodied voice, then I think one of them was talking to me earlier."

Adam gets up, slowly looking around, noting the fact that his clothes are already on.
Did I go to bed dressed? Wait, no, I had just gotten dressed after getting out of bed, then I blacked out and ended up...
Here.
Technologically advanced, too, can't tell if that's a good or a bad thing.

"Is this an interrogation room? If so, I swear I've repented, I'm a changed man now."

((Looks like we've got another character with unknown powers to add to the tvtropes page.  At least we know your character's name.  :P))

A head made out of hair appears in front of you, fully realistic, including organ-replicas made out of hair.
"Sure. But remember, it's not permanent. And that's not what I used, I can just change my appearance. It's a very useful trick. Especially when you get bored or want to play a prank on someone."
George shivers and tries to avoid making eye contact with the hair head.
"So you have the special ability to disguise yourself?  Is that why one of those 'entities' brought you here?"

Phil facepalms, and says with an annoyed tone:
"Guys, I didn't lug that wolf all the way back here so that you could just shoot and burn it.  I wanted the professor to take a look at it, so that he could decide what kind of machine to build that could analyze the black goo creature and provide us with more information about it."

Phil looks back at the trail of blood left by the deer corpse, then says:

"Back when me and Jon slit the dead deer's throat, the black goo on the wolf reacted.  Hopefully, every creature that's been infected will follow this blood trail and come right to us.  Then we can exterminate all of them.  Just try to capture at least one so that the professor can take a closer look at it."

"Yeah, changed my appearance a bit, got bored with the old one. Thought I'd try something a bit more Mediterranean."

"What?  We can change our appearance here too?"

Close my eyes and wish for a full head of hair.

At seeing the crazy man once again, Sonny begun screaming and yelled:
"Ahh!  It's him!  Watch out, Mr. Monk!  He's dangerous!"
Hide nearby.  Run if pursued.

"Little man! You around? Joe here says he's sorry for scaring you like that!" Brother Marcel shouts to the cave around here. "Maybe he'll forgive you, ya never know," he adds as an aside to Joe.

(NOTE TO GM: Do the following only if Sonny can hear Brother Marcel, otherwise do my previously posted action)

Sonny hears the monk, and yells back:
"Huh!?  Who's Joe?  Hold on, I'm coming!"

Approach cautiously.

Staging Area

You blink. When you open your eyes, a cold aluminium can of Diet Cho-Cola is now in your hand. You open it and taste it. It is chocolate flavoured.
"Well, you see, that's the hard part. This place exists because of the Games. People are brought here when they are chosen by an entity to participate in the Games. You were brought here to complete challenges for those Games, along with other people."

"Said challenges can be anything. Fights to the death between each other, protecting innocents, exploring new worlds, bringing criminals to justice, assassinating politicians, surviving the zombie apocalypse, super-powered soccer games... And they can take place anywhere, including here in the Staging Area."

"Depending on how well you do in a challenge, you gain points, points that are used by the entity that chose you to modify you as it sees fit. On certain special challenges, you can gain special rewards, depending on your actions and your performance. If you do well, succeed enough times and please the one that chose you, you get to go home and keep your upgrades. Sounds cool, right? And if you happen to die during-"

*caw* "Big bird! Duck and cover!"
Roger grabs you and forces you to duck as a glider flies above you. The man flying it lets go of it and rolls to a stop as the glider crashes on a building behind him, the rock wall unharmed by the impact. Not the most graceful landing ever, but at least he would probably come out of it unharmed if he wasn't already protected from harm.
"Is this where the party is?" the man says as he gets up and removes the dust from his clothes.
"Adventure party!"
"Hey John. Nice landing." he says with a small wave.
After seeing this spectacle, George is actually rather unfazed.  A man falling from the sky is not the strangest thing he's seen or heard today.  He stands up and turns his attention back to Roger.
"Thanks, though if we can't be hurt here, what was the point of ducking?  Oh, but more importantly, what were you saying about dying?  These challenges can kill us?"
John nodded at those he crashed beside, then waved toward the victor.  "Well done, Saevus.  Keep on keeping on.  And hello, you," he said toward Rodger.  "Have we met?  I can't recall."
"Come to think of it, I don't think I recall either of you.  I could be forgetting, though."

((I can't think of if John's ever specifically met Roger.))
"So, you're John, huh?  My name is George.  I'm new here."

Turn 9!  Now with more faulty machinery!
Roll Nine

Hawk132 realizes it's time to leave.  He attempts to rush out of the prison (4), but only manages to make it to the prison's lobby.  As he runs, he hears Beirus' passionate speech (7vs1+4+3+2+2-1-4), but feels nothing since he doesn't ascribe to the same ideals as Beirus.  A moment after arriving at the lobby, Hawk132 is surprised to see Hiddenleafguy standing in front of the exit, looking back angrily at Hawk132.

NAV is shocked to find out that publishing his masterpiece will cost so much money.  That's not right!  NAV begins singing a punk rock song about his invaluable masterpiece to the expensive publisher (9+3+3vs5), who is moved to tears by NAV's music.  He immediately apologizes to NAV for overcharging him, and he promises NAV that he'll talk with the other members of his firm to convince them to publish the video footage for free!  As NAV and the publisher shake hands in agreement, NAV listens to Beirus' masterful speech (2vs9+4+3+2+2-1), becoming completely convinced of the righteousness of Beirus' objectives.  NAV has joined Beirus' crowd of followers!

Meanwhile at the bank, Andres concludes that now is the time to prepare for battle.  He exits the bank and starts looking for someone who can sell him weapons and other items (5), but only manages to find a store selling general merchandise.  Andres enters the store, grabbing up a large kitchen knife, a first aid kit, some earplugs, and a backpack.  The cashier rings up the items (10), but a technical glitch causes the cash register to stop functioning.  Seeing this, the cashier shrugs apathetically and lets Andres have the stuff for free!

Back at the control room, Hiddenleafguy's paranoia finally gets the best of him.  He tries to think of a way to kill Beirus silently (2+2), and his best idea is to just shoot Beirus with his pistol, but that's not quiet at all!  As Hiddenleafguy internally debates the pros and cons of shooting Beirus, he hears Beirus' masterful speech (2vs8+4+3+2+2-1) and realizes how foolish he's been.  How could he ever have even considered killing Beirus?  It's Hawk132 that deserves to die!  Hiddenleafguy is so impassioned by Beirus' words that he unlocks the door and rushes out of the control room in pursuit of the true villain.  Hiddenleafguy searches for Hawk132 (10) and finds him easily.  Now he stands in the lobby face to face with the evil Hawk132, eager to behead him.

Outside of the bank, Person thanks his supporters and starts wandering around town.  He looks around for a sports shop ( 8 ), and manages to find one.  He enters the shop and tells the clerk that he would like to purchase a basketball and some first aid equipment ( 8 ).  The clerk is happy to oblige, walking to the back of the store and returning with a brand new basketball and a first aid kit.  He scans the items at the register (10), but the machine freezes up and stops working.  The clerk apologizes for the faulty machine and spends 30 minutes trying to get the machine to function again, but to no avail.  He finally gives up and just tells Person that he can have the ball and kit for free.  As Person walks out of the store, he hears the clerk complaining on the phone to the manufacturer.

Nunziller finally arrives at the bank, passing by Andres and Person on his way there.  He walks into the bank (1), only to discover that a bank robbery is in progress!  The robbers are the two convicts who escaped from the prison 6 turns ago!  It looks like they felt like raiding a bank before rushing back to the prison, so that's why they're here.  Nunziller tries to get out of the bank without being noticed (3), but he's seen and immediately taken hostage by one of the robbers.  Nunziller now has a gun to his head, and it will be (3) three turns before the police arrive at the bank.

Back in the jail, Beirus decides that he needs everyone to know how important he is to the world.  He begins another speech utilizing his skills of psychology, diplomacy, management, and Christianity to convince everyone listening to never harm him, and to instead behead Hawk132 (9+4+3+2+2-1).  Beirus' followers begin chanting about executing Hawk132, and immediately start scavenging around the prison for weapons that can be used to behead him (7).  They are successful, finding (7) seven large knives in the kitchen and (2) two small hatchets in one of the maintenance closets.  However, in their zeal to find proper beheading tools, Beirus' followers have lost sight of Hawk132 and no longer know where he is!

At the museum, H4zardZ1 is still observing the beetle exhibit.  Who knew beetles could be so fascinating?  As H4zardZ1 continues to enjoy himself, he notices a sharp pain in his chest. (H4zardZ1 will die of heart failure if he does not post an action before the next turn)
