DF Suggestions / Re: Artifacts that cause corruption.
« on: October 25, 2016, 12:46:39 am »
Also, just to point out, artifacts won't have any powers in the artifacts release, despite the many threads speculating on awesome powers. Magic is part of the release after Artifacts.
So what will happen in the artifact release.

Artefacts that have drawbacks seem like quite a reasonable thing to include, though it would be limited somewhat be the practical matter that dwarfs create artefacts in fort mode, and you want those artefacts to be reasonably useful.

Really, dwarfs already have a tendency to make candy war-hammers and gold swords, if they don't just make purely cosmetic artefacts in the first place. As such if you were to throw your suggestion in now, you would end up with lots wooden mini-forge of were-rabbitism and silly things like that. Of course, that could be desirable to some. With that in mind it would be nice to have some settings in world-gen regarding the creation of artefacts(much as the myth generator is said to have now), and of course the current way dwarfs create artefacts will probably be over-hauled completely in the artefact update anyway.

or the planned 500x500x20 tile reservoir

That's an insanely large reservoir. If my rough calculations are right, digging it in stone would take a dozen legendary miners about a century to dig it out(assuming 20 tiles per day mined, with half of the miners time spent actually mining), and it would also generate over a million boulders, which would kill your FPS.

Moki, theres still hope. Not that your fortress may survive, but rather that there is still a chance to go out in a blaze of glory. Dig deep, dig deep.

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: The biggest library

The problem i've always has with making a large library is that all the visiting scholars keep stealing the books! This would not even be a big problem were it not for my scribes being a bunch of slackers who copy one book then go back to drinking and hauling even when there's a hundred books sitting defenceless and alone.

Werebeasts are weak to certain metals? Other than steel and candy, that is, all organic creatures are nothing against steel or candy.

It's certainty annoying, does anyone know of anyway to change what is considered the nearest site? Would sallying out in adventurer mode and killing the last survivors of the goblin fortress work, how about using dfhack to delete the goblin site from existance(if thats even possible without crashing the game). Is it still possible to use DFHack to force sieges? I'm not really that experinced with modding, so i don't know.

In the early spring of 262, the magma pump was finally turned on,just over three years after construction began. The molten rock flowed hundreds of metres upwards, spreading out into the vast chamber built underneath the room which will become the center of all Midorok's fuel using industries. Never again will a lack of wood be a major issue, though the demand for potash will allow us to continue taunting the elves.

One of my miners recently fell into depression, even though no-one else in my fortress is unhappy. And its not like he has and dead relatives or anything. But when i looked at his personality screen i found a possible reason. Turns out "He personally can't fathom why anyone would want to live in an orderly and harmonious society, and finds the ideas of independence and freedom somewhat foolish". Thats a rather big conflict there, and perhaps this mental conflict is driving him mad, funnily enough he also dreams of creating a great work of art.

I got attacked by a tundra titan made of amber, with webs! I locked everyone indoors and hastily rebuilt my cave-in trap, but it was not needed. The human merchants managed to kill it, with great loss of life to themselves, but no dwarfs died, which is what is important

This is why i put my atom-smasher in a sealed room, that way, if i accidentally lower rather than raise the bridge, the garbage does not fly far, and is easily dumped again.
