DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: Face Palm moments you had

What non-vanilla LNP stuff do you use?
http://www.bay12forums.com/smf/index.php?topic=163211.0 that's what i used.
but i'll download the latest vanilla release and try that... it was a facepalm though, realising i put about a days worth of worries into soundsense running and then realising DF doesnt work :D
facepalm again, as i just found out how to install the required sdl packages :D
vanilla works, now i'll try LNP, then LNP+meph
hopefully next facepalm won't be due to my low linux-skill

We should be asking why the others aren't immortal.

Death is a New Invention
link doesnt open: remove one "http://" at the beginning

it is an interesting thought though.

managed to get soundsense to work on linux and even copied in mephs raws, art and inits, but didn't check if the linux LNP works. so now i can use soundsense without DF  :-[

Hilariously, the ones that despise farming in tolkien's world are the dwarves.  Freaking hate it. Pay other races to do it for them.
they don't like working in dirt - they prefer rock :D

when converting to stained glass, big tiles with less detail are better  input material.

If the game doesn't crash from humans dieing in a  seige from old age then I don't know why it would for goblins.
maybe it did in a very early version and this is the workaround that became unnecessary.

It did look pretty good, actually, but it lost compatibility with any modern DF version, and nobody updated it.
ah, i guess i know which one you mean.
its main flaw was that it let MC generate villages etc over the existent DF world.
but we're deriving... :D

No, there was another one that would export the actual forts.
oh, that sounds amazing - but we already had the discussions on how the DF blocks/tiles should be represented in MC and it is rather difficult to make it look nice and be representive at the same time.

as long as it's only the inits, they contain little changes i can easily do manually - i 'm rather afraid if the changes in the raws will be compatible with the new game version. (mephs is 44.07 and LNP 44.09)

I remember seeing a minecraft dwarf fortress texture pack a long time ago.

I also recall a tool that would export DF fort maps into Minecraft.
yes, but it had some unbearable flaws.

so if the only real reason for immortal gobbos is to prevent sieges dying of old age - i suggest setting their maxlife a little higher and not make them immortal at all. or would death of old age of maybe 2 gobbos during a siege break/crash the game?
Or just stick with the current plans and procedurally generate lore with Mythgen. No point in replacing one temporary situation with another.

You can set the maximum age of goblins to anything you like, no reason to stick with vanilla settings if you don't like them. That's why he makes the game customizable.
true.

Maaaan... Why doesnt he just run ads or sell merch? I mean he really easily could the game is legendary. ( Its a shame its not more well known but still )
-snip-
i'm glad it's not more well known. that could lead to it becoming so broadly known that they demand the game being changed beyond recognition into an effortless easypeasy sandbox.

I dunno, do humans ever die of old age during a seige?
tbh i never had war with humans.

i had your pack installed and configured just fine, then switched to linux. can i just copy the contents of your pack into the linux LNP so the gamechanges can run under linux, or will this break the game?

If you start the LNP from a terminal by running ./startlnp in its root: then when you doubleclick soundsense in the utilities tab you can see the messages/errors logged to the terminal.
You can also start soundsense without starting LNP, by cd'ing to /LNP/utilities/soundsense and running ./soundSense.sh
:) thanks. found out that java wasn't installed - although it should already be... strange. reinstalling java and trying again.
EDIT: it works now. thanks.
EDIT2: soundsense now works, but DF crashes under wine... so can i just copy the contents of Mephs DF over into the linuxLNP?
