DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: Face Palm moments you had

I spent about 10 minutes getting an embark ready, at which point the wagon spawned on top of a frozen waterfall in a hot area that instantly thawed, causing all my dwarves and their supplies to tumble 9 z levels down and splatter against the walls and floor.

Well, on the subject of bugs, visitors being announced as night creatures still hasn't been fixed. I just got a message saying "Kima Rulunushrat, Human Bard vampire is visiting".

UPDATE: The cave spider destroyed the last of the doors in the caverns, then began to move normally towards the rest of the fortress. I tried to send in my (new) marksdwarves, but only one actually got up to do anything. They spent about 5 minutes shooting the cave spider, without the spider fighting back at all. Previously, it instantly ran up to and killed any marksdwarves I sent to it, and now it's just completely docile.

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Passive giant cave spider?
« on: February 11, 2017, 04:54:16 pm »
So, I was dealing with performance troupes and migrants, when I got a message saying "giant cave spider has destroyed a door". Sure enough, there was a giant cave spider, and a valuable legendary miner was nearby it. I promptly sent in a squad of crossbowdwarves, who walked directly up to the spider and began shooting it from there. About half of them died.

But, then, something really weird happened; all my civilians went in to recover the weapons and armor of the dead, and the spider completely ignored them. As in, they walked within the same tile of it and it did nothing, not even trying to attack them. I checked, it was still alive, and fully conscious. I sent in another marksdwarf and the spider immediately came back to its senses and mauled him, but then went back to ignoring everyone else as they picked up the poor bastards stuff.

Can anybody explain this? I heard something about trolls being docile, except for the occasional smashing of buildings, due to how intelligent creatures now behave; are GCSs sapient as well?

EDIT: Oh my god there's a fucking child and its pet chick down in the caverns sleeping next to the spider now. It isn't attacking it. This is the most heartwarming thing I've ever seen in this game.

Items can block the construction of floors.

I had a similar issue with vultures interrupting underground jobs, despite being 50 z-levels in the air when the cancellation is announced. Waterfowl simply aren't constrained by our conventional understanding of physics, I suppose.

Anyhow, I've got no idea what the cause is. I assume it's some form of oversight or bug. Raised drawbridges serving as gates seem to contribute to it's occurrence for some reason as well.

SMR floats
The fact that this is trivial is genuinely hilarious to me.

Alright. Well, at the very least, we know we CAN lace the water, it just isn't any more profitable.

Oh well. At least I can stop murdering kittens, now.

A) How does one go about doing that? I assume you just launch the container into the pool, or hit it with a minecart.

B) I haven't checked yet. The caravan basically just left, so I'm still waiting for next autumn.

If you assign a corpse to be dumped before it is actually found by a dwarf, dwarves can still dump it.

A dwarf who is praying when they have a strange mood will stay in a temple and not move at all until they go insane. I'm assuming this is a bug.

Also, if a migrant wave consists of only a single migrant, the text will say "A migrant has arrived" instead of "Some migrants have arrived".

PS: Yes, including the rare 3000 zombie dragon packs (flocks?). It's not the heat that kills them, it's the nigh-thousand urist sledgehammer reasonably measurable in mach scale that also throws them back for the next strike 5 steps behind.

Okay, how the actual fuck did you do this. Please tell me. I need to know. If it wasn't DFHack or adventure mode shenanigans, I may still be able to do something with my system. Also, did you check the value of the water itself? Did it change at all, if you did?

UPDATE: I sold a magma-filled minecart to a dwarven caravan. Their wagons didn't go up in flames immediately, and they were able to exit the map. I'd call that success, so far.

(knowledge)

But does the minecart have [833] magma, [833] water, or obsidian inside?

[833] magma. The liquids in the carts are apparently unaffected if the cart is full.

I wonder if putting a magma-filled cart in a pool of water would make it generate steam from the heat, if it exists.

Yeah, this lacing thing isn't going anywhere. I'm not sure contaminants can even lace fluids anymore, since I've thrown about 20 kittens worth of cat blood into the reservoir with little to no results. I think I've reached the limit as to how far I can go with this.

Once another dwarven caravan comes and I sell the magma to it, I'll retire the fort and see if I can request more in a different fort in the same world.

If a minecart is immersed in magma, and contains magma, you can dump water on it to form obsidian, dig out the minecart, and have the magma in the cart perfectly intact.
