Imagine if Indonesia, Thailand, Argentina, or Uzbekistan sent out religious agents to other countries, where they set up religious organizations involving multiple lesser officers. And these religious agents covered up the crimes of their lesser officers.

Clearly the lesser officers are at fault for whatever crimes they committed.

Clearly the religious agents are at fault for any coverups, considering certain crimes such as conspiracy and abetting a criminal.

The lesser officers (direct criminals) and the religious agents (coverups, indirect criminals) committed their crimes within the jurisdiction of the host country.

But it's unclear whether the politicians in the original country are under any law but their own. If their laws are built to protect them, what can you do? Each country has sovereignty in its own borders. And international law is effectively voluntary on a country-by-country basis, except that if you don't play nice everyone else might punish you by withholding or blocking you ... or, I suppose if they're violent enough, invading.

Something tells me Vatican City is pretty safe from any kind of political / economic / and especially military punishments from other countries.

I think in order to actually get anything done against the pope, you would have to file a lawsuit in Vatican City against him. And it's entirely possible that he's immune to civilian lawsuits under Vatican City law.

Well the whole point of this is that the UK government is paying for the pope to come visit, this is intended to stop that i suppose (our taxes should go towards helping us, not paying for some child molester ex-nazi to come on holiday).

As per your example, while the leaders of those countries may be relativly safe in their own countries, if they then go and visit the countries (highly publicized visit mind you) that are after them, then they're probobly gonna get into a sticky situation legally.

I was under the impression Vatican City was its own country, it would set a bad precedent. If the pope can be arrested then why can't Barack or any leader?

Because Barack doesn't commit crimes in other countries? Or knowling attempt to thwart the laws of other countries?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GgYx3KBCpZo&feature=related Dan Bull: Got famous for his series of open letters (in the form of youtube rap videos) to various people speaking out against draconian copyright and the uk government doing stupid things, but does good stuff aside from that too.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZQ9BDmOZztc Dj format and abdominal. Got some awesome lyrical skills combined with some great beats. Id highly reccomend them to anyone interested in the genre.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4nigRT2KmCE MC frontalot: Probobly my favorite nerdcore rapper, heard about him via penny-arcade, and he's also the star of the documentary nerdcore rising (which is also worth a watch if you get the chance)

Midi-Chlorian testing was basically outlawed by The Empire; prior to that only people who wanted to become Jedi were tested, plenty of force sensitives who could have become Jedi but chose not to live throughout the Star Wars universe.

But but but... All the jedi start training at a young age. The kids practicing lightsaber deflection are like 5, and I'm assuming that flaining a lightsaber around isn't the first thing they teach you. So 3 year olds are going "mummy, call the jedi and see if i can join up?" It's upto the kids? Surely the jedi would be testing like... EVERYONE. What kid wouldn't want to be a jedi? They get to do whatever they want!

I mean, don't get me wrong, I love star wars. I read the books, ive played the pen and paper rpg, and every video game, ive seen the christmas special and the droids cartoon. Watching the original trilogy for the first time when i was a kid is one of my most cherished memories... But the prequels introduced so many elements that just ruined the whole mythology. It's not just about dodgey science, or sillyness. Star wars has always had its fair share of rule of cool, and hand waving suspect things because it was needed for the greater plot. But so very much of the prequels content just seems to run, as G-Flex has said, completely opposite to what made the original stuff so great and beloved.  Sure George mightve mentioned midichlorians in some obscure book noone read in 1977, but the fact that absolutely NOONE remembers it surely is indication enough that its a horrible idea?

I really think that they should have a distinct line between extended universe stuff that considers the prequels canon, and EU that (rightly so) ignores everything that was in those films. Is anyone else really wary of buying any new star wars books or media for fear of mentions of midichlorians or jar jar?

So I'm assuming its pretty much standard procedure for everyone in the galaxy to be tested for midichlorians then? Because otherwise they'd be missing alot of things. How many more Anakins are out there? Maybe its a tattoine thing? Luke was pretty force sensitive too... Maybe midochlorians are all over tattoine... Like thick in the air. Growing up there means your bound to have stupid high midichlorians.

Sure, that could just be circumstantial. But it'd be worth looking into. How many other worlds out there have children that haven't been tested for midichlorian counts? There could be a planet somewhere where a kid has a power lev.... i mean midichlorian count of over 90,000! So high it could make the midiscanner explode! :O

Maybe they should build a machine that steals them from other people and injects them into you. If they're micro organisms its conceivable you could breed them, create huge vats of the suckers and go swim around in it. Put them on your food like salt and pepper before every meal.

Yeah midichlorians suck in every conceivable way.

It's not a ton more effective than blasters for killing someone- have you ever seen someone survive a blaster shot in the movies?

Darth Vader uses his hands to not deflect, but completely absorb two blaster shots to no ill effect in Empire Strikes Back.

Darth vader was a cyborg with robo-hands though.

At the risk of being pedantic, I present Wong Fei Hung, the longest film series at 89 entries. :P

Lightwhips are just cheating. If you're gonna turn up for a fight with a lightwhip, you may aswell just bring the deathstar.

The big difference between a lightsaber and a shield would be that with a lightsaber you can deflect the blaster shots back at the person who fired at you. So if you're fighting someone with a blaster, your lightsaber in effect functions as a blaster anyway?

Pretty much. Star Wars is basically the father of Space Opera after all.

Star wars might be the most popular cinematic space opera, but its a huuuuge stretch to call it the father of the genre. :P

But while the banks and hedges mightve lost alot of money as institutions a lot of the people in charge made out like bandits.

So in say 50 years, when theres another group of people in charge, they aren't going to be thinking "remember when this bank lost alot of money" they'll be thinking remember when one of my predecessors made off with billions, and bought an island, and lived in a mansion made of gold!"

Well, not just 6ft tall bastards in armour were effective with swords, theres hundreds of different types of swords, and sword fighting styles that ork for different people. The same way that not only 6ft tall guys in armour are effective in martial arts.

And the neck guy, yeah, thats the prequels though, its style over substance through and through. "hey guys I've got a cool idea for a guy with a massive neck" "ok george, we'll stick it in the film, just please leave"

Though i suppose you could handwave it with the force. Especially in the prequels where its not so much a mystical all-encompassing energy that binds us all together as it is a dragon ball z style ki thing.

Or maybe he has a personal cortosis neck shield. I know its rare and everything, but c'mon, the dude needs it more than anyone else.
