Wandering Dragon vs. Midas

Midas let the mech take the stab, knowing even as the weapon bit into the mech's arm that his spark would help keep him going. Then he saw the heavy swing coming, and already he was bringing its shield - and his might - into the weapon's path to stop it.

[Armor bonus used - damage completely blocked!]

Thinking quickly as Wandering Dragon disengaged, Midas dropped his weapons as he turned to face his opponent.

Inside the cockpit, Aleks placed his hands over the controls for his weapon's rockets.

He didn't have a real plan here, but, well, maybe if he was fast enough, he could still eke out a victory.

Osamu didn't even want to think about what him being a survivor of his world meant. Slowly dragging himself to his feet, he looked up at Skye.

"So, that's how I survived? Luck? What do you mean by 'almost identical worlds'? And how do you know my name?"

633
Osamu shakily raised his hand. He was tempted to ask if he could wake up, but if everything he'd seen hadn't somehow jolted him out of bed, nothing was going to.

So, in light of that, he asked the next best question he could think of.

"Why me?"

Wandering Dragon vs. Midas

The light slice bounced off the very-expensive, very shiny plating of Midas' mech - and Midas responded with a rocket-boosted swing at Wandering Dragon's torso. Aleks had put more energy into this one - looking to test Dragon's speed, or, failing that, his resilience.

[Melee 6 bonus used - autohit!]

Osamu let out a sigh of irritation.

"Shameful? Look, if you think you can survive..." He gestured in the direction of the massive creatures, "That, then you can go right ahead, but I think it's better that some of us get out, as opposed to none of us."

636
"Get over here and help us free this lady. But try to do it quietly, please..." Osamu barely took a look behind him to speak to the machine before he went back to trying to clear the rubble - he could question what exactly was going on later, once the immediate dangers had passed. If they passed.

637
Osamu just nodded his head at the instructions of... whoever the lady was - and moved to pull away the pieces of rubble best he could without causing a collapse. This was all too weird to be a dream, but it wasn't as though helping people was going to make things worse...

At least, hopefully it wouldn't.

638
In a strange place, surrounded by strange people, with strange creatures fighting above them...

What choice did Osamu have? He followed the... magician? To wherever he was headed.

639
As Osamu got up, he rubbed the sand out of his eyes, wondering what the hell had happened last night. He went over the details in his head. Convenience store, the bar, his crappy apartment - that was now even more ruined than before - none of it explained the two creatures doing battle above him like a scene from a monster movie.

He looked to the people around him. Some of them seemed like the kinds of characters who'd show up in a monster movie. Maybe they weren't as confused as he was. Carefully approaching the closest person he saw, some kind of... Salaryman? Government agent? Osamu asked, "You mean to say you have no idea what's going on?"

He took a step back as the man's face glowed for a moment. "W-what is that?"

Playing Space Pirates and Zombies 2 has made me wonder - what other games have factions that act in the world and can change it?

Games I know that are like that include:

Mount and Blade
Starsector
Battle Brothers (to a degree)

But I'm not really sure what other games there are that are like that.

Turns out that, while starting off extremely weak can result in some satisfying moments (namely, growing strong enough to tear down opponents you had previously fled from), they can also result in some frustrating ones - namely, having trouble eliminating foes you thought you were somewhat evenly matched against.

Once I wound up dying to a "training" bandit that was (I thought) weaker than me...

Yeah, I wasn't happy.

Wandering Dragon vs. Midas

Aleks grinned as he saw his opponent. 'Wandering Dragon', was his name, right? Well, the massive sword was intimidating for sure - he'd need to keep an eye on it, since it looked like even his armor wouldn't quite stop it - but as for the other moves, only time would tell.

As Aleks' opponent approached, Midas simply raised his shield in a friendly-looking gesture - doing his best to make sure that the light reflecting off of it shone right onto his opponent. Maybe a petty, useless move, but if it did work, maybe he'd be at an advantage.

Then, the opposing mech changed direction, moving to his side, before dashing right at him, sword at the ready. Aleks was already charging forward himself, responding with a shield bash that would (hopefully) knock the blade aside - and after that, slamming mech against mech.

As Midas met Wandering Dragon, a song began to play through the boombox. Not deafening, not meant to disorient or hurt one's ears - just something to fill the air and help set the tone.

Started another run of XPiratez.

It's going well. Went for Gold this time 'cause I didn't have a reason not to, but haven't really begun to do anything like create new hideouts just yet. One day, though... one day...

It already is, under the "REAL games" section.
