DF General Discussion / Re: Future of the Fortress
« on: July 30, 2016, 01:43:05 pm »
Can we expect at some point in the future to have the ability to control armies in a manner similar to medieval warfare, with strict formations and the like? I.E, PlayerMcGeneral or UristMcGeneral can tell a massive force to move into a phalanx or wedge.

You know Dun, you should have a "Great Book of Grudges" style list of things to kill, destroy or just generally annoy, if anything just for the purpose of using our professional distraction more.

Gonna start this up again soon.
STALINIST UTOPIA TIME WOOP WOOP.

DF Suggestions / Re: Randomly Generated Minerals
« on: July 24, 2016, 08:58:36 pm »
Just putting in my two cents here on what sort of randomly generated minerals there could be.

A "SUPAH EVIL" metallic substance could spread in a manner similar to Terraria corruption if something is done to it, perhaps releasing toxic fumes as well. In other words, a plague but with 100% more rock.

From the tears of the Emperor's faithful, weeping at his undying glory.
0/10 not enough righteous fury, too much Eldar style weeping.

I for one think it's hilarious that the IG are used as the punching bag for everything and still keep on going

The little guys never give up
They even punch themselves on occasion with liberal blam and occasional infighting. Poor farmer Joe, I knew we shouldn't have given you a lasgun...

You should have been stuck with a knife.

217
but what if YOU were the heretics all along
makes you think
"No, Ciaphas. You are the demons. And then Ciaphas was unworthy of the Emperors Love."

Damn...turns out I'm rather good at this whole Mini-Necro thing.

EDIT: Just though I'd put in my own two cents on the issue.

The Tyranids win conditions, simple as they are, I think are the most likely to occur. Those conditions are that no one else wins and no SUPER ALLIANCES OF SUPER DOOM are formed between the major powers. Or Orks get their shit together. 9/10

Necrons are a little weird in that, due to the insanity of their leaders, they're unpredictable. They could either come together under a single banner and roflstomp or continuing calling each other names while playing I Spy in 4 dimension or whatever the hell they're doing in their cribs. 6/10

Imperium win if a fully functioning STC comes into the hands of a trustworthy forge world. I would not be surprised though if some particularly dickish magos kept it for themselves. This is increasingly possible with explorator fleets mapping out more of the galaxy. Also, über psyker evolution is viable yet unlikely. 5/10

Tau are sad, but if they can survive long enough their technological advancement and impressive expansion should put them above most other factions. Problem they'll almost certainly get nommed. 2/10

Dark Eldar don't win because they don't really want to or need to. 1/6*10^3

Eldar win with their prissy "God of Death" shtick. Sort of a little bit I guess. Problem is that not all craftworlds agree on this, many craftworlds that do are getting nommed and blammed plus "Super Death Crybaby" is not guaranteed to win against Slaanesh. And even then its not really a victory, just survival of a sort. Option two (known as "Option Two: That One That Sucks Less") is an increase in birthrates, meaning a military force which, considering the power of the current one, would almost certainly be painful to face. 4/10

Orks, despite the fact they are clearly made for fighting and winning, are currently a nuisance. This changes if a Beast That Will Bring Much Slaughter level warboss appears and is allowed to grow his empire. A united krork-esque faction means death to everyone in their way. And, considering Ghazzy, this is becoming far more likely by the minute. I frankly want this victory just so I could see a post-war Ork society that's all "Suphisticated an' ole dat'" whilst keeping the ridiculous accent. 6/10.

Chaos wins by expanding the Eye of Terror to galactic levels r corrupting the entire Imperium. The first one is almost certainly going to happen if nothing is done about the Cadian pylons, failing as they are. The second is unlikely but doable, and Chaos force with millions of demon worlds with a massive infrastructure and actual trained forces besides CSM curb-stomp most things. 6/10.

If several win cons trigger I'm not sure what happens, but I imagine it will be horrifying absolutely hilarous.

Alright, in an attempt to kickstart discussion once more, I will ask a question; what faction in 40k is most likely to win? I fully expect to answer to be long, complex and possibly include theories on nuclear fission.

220
Probably need someone eventually to test some trap levers. :3
I suggest the use of spikes. Wooden ones specifically.

If the heretic survives long enough, unleash them upon the enemy, for their dodging skills must be immense.

(I.E, training room forever.)

221
Space marine should absolutely be a salamander. The IG should probably either be a handful of corpses, or a single guardsman close to death.
I think it would be awesome to have a comedy of Guardsmen operating a basilisk

So all the amazing, reality-destroying stuff is happening far far away, whilst the Guardsmen hear about it over vox beads or strange lights in the distance, remarking about their personal lives whilst delivering endless pie templates a world away
A commissar must be included, dark humor is necessary and the occasional heresy would be appreciated with this.

Yes, this could be very...interesting.

If it existed. Which it doesn't. And won't.

222
Well, I suppose I should stop by here.
oh noes its da fishhheeeeee

...Ah! The shitpost, it burns!

223
All right, here goes.

A battle in the background between Chaos and the Imperium, with the Imperium having IG and Space Marine present. A single guardsman can be seen dead directly in the foreground on the left. A titan can be seen in the far right corner facing a greater daemon. There is a space marine next to the guardsman holding a power sword held at rest facing the fight. Above it all, a Battleship (name a class or faction) can be seen through the clouds. It should be clear that the Imperium is losing the fight.

And, to top it all off, an Imperial Standard should be readily visible somewhere in the foreground.

Whether or not this is horrid I cannot say. All I can say is that I would like to see this.

224
I blame LW for adding his xeno filth. The whole thing went off the rails from there.
What can I say, its like being caged on Cadia.

225
No memorial for Moria.
