DF Community Games & Stories / Interest Check: New Version Succession Fort
« on: September 21, 2017, 06:15:23 pm »
This thread is just an interest check for a new succession fort once the new version comes out. With whole new mechanics being the highlight of this release, it'll allow for whole new dimensions of role playing.

To be clear, I will start a succession fort once the new release is out. I just want to see if any of you have any ideas for embark locations or RP elements or even a few mods to spice it up even more. Just say what you think

The Tale of Wispward
A Pony Saga By The Immortal Ryukan

"Everypony has their own way of Life" - Kal the Bard

* - * - * - * - * - *

It's been said that Ponykind was once a prosperous and peaceful society. One where friendship and equality were held in the highest regard. Where family and food were never in want. Those must have been in a different time, because the world has changed.

  The world has bled.

The Bronze Lyrics, that was the name of our Nation. Onur Oiledlace founded the nation of ponies with the intention of bringing lasting peace into the world. She managed to live that dream for fifteen years before reality caught up to her. She, along with the rest of her court and family were killed when the first wave of Buffalo came. Poetloves fell quickly and all the settlements under the Bronze Banner were soon occupied and the Nation was placed under Buffalo rule, as nothing more than a puppet to them. Many battles were fought and soon the Buffalo were driven back out. But as we took one moment to catch our breath, the Changelings swooped in from the West across the mountains and laid waste to what little we had regained.

The Bronze Lyrics were no more. Pony society still lives up in the North under the banner of the Fresh Song, but they are hated by the ponies of Bronze Lyric, a hatred that burned hotter than the hottest furnace, for in their time of need, the Northern Ponies turned on their Southern kin.

It has since been 100 years since the last fall of the Bronze Lyrics. But hope may yet still sound. A group of 20 survivors had assembled in the ruins of Poetloves and has embarked on a quest to rekindle the lost society and to finally take their revenge on those that had wronged them. Will they be successful or will they be doomed to fail and be crushed under the weight of the world?

  We Shall See.

Hello everyone, and welcome to my third and final attempt at a pony fort. My last two forts ended prematurely due to factors both inside and outside my control. This fort however will likely be the riskiest of the three. In the world I genned there was just one evil biome, a one map tile Mountain. I have never tried to play in an evil biome before so don't get too attached to any particular ponies. Speaking of ponies, I used dfhack to start with 20 ponies instead of seven because in all my other pony forts, the Changelings came extremely early and chopped by poor equines to bits before snow even fell. Plus we are starting as a dead civ, there WAS a perfectly good and alive pony civ up north, but come on, wheres the !!FUN!! in that?

As with my other forts, I will have some self-imposed challenges/rules.

Spoiler: Rules and Challenges (click to show/hide)

Here's a List of Dorfed... er, "ponied" ponies.

Spoiler: Named Ponies (click to show/hide)

As for updates, I will try to keep them regular, but with college and stuff, it may be widely spaced between updates.

But, this has been my gal for a while, to create a successful pony fort that lives past the first year.

So, here we go, I hope you enjoy Wispward, A Pony Tale.

Deep Within the Dwarven Mountain Halls

Ryukan sat at a table in one of the many dining halls under the mountains, a mug of strawberry wine in one hand a Royal Edict in the other. Around him, dwarves sang or drank their night away without a care in the world. It would've irked him to no end on any other night, but this night was perhaps Ryukan's lowest in his life. His wife's caravan had been lost in the great deserts of the south and word had just reached him. To add insult to injury, the King had decided to choose that time to send a draft notice ordering him to take charge of a new outpost.

Normally, he would take this job offer up with no hesitation, being an overseer for hire was his living, but his mind was failing to register this Edict as a good thing. As the night wore on and the dancing crowd of drunk dwarves slowly dwindled, he continued to sit at the table, not touching his wine. Then he got up and left the Hall for his bedroom. Once to his modest room, he got into his bed and went to sleep. Unknown to him, as he closed his eyes, this would be the last time his eyes would see the ancient hewn stone of the Mountain Halls...

Hello fellow Dwarves, Lurkers, and other assorted people, I welcome you to my newest succession fortress. After an interesting subject was brought up in this thread, I have decided to begin a new story. A story free from the greats of the past and trying to live up to them or copy them. I intend this to be a new experience to those who are still new around here and are afraid to jump into one of the more established fortress series and a safe haven away from said forts for you veterans out there. And to answer your question, yes, I will be waiting for the new update to come out to start playing.

The Rules of this fortress will be simple and relatively the same as a standard succession fort, though a few surprises will be added by me as this new fort gets going, but for now, the rules are as follows:

Before this madness begins, I need volunteers for sacrif- er, overseers:

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

While I will not be taking dorfings right now, I will still be placing this here as a sort of place holder:

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Any suggestions for mods and or embark locations will be highly valued and to all of you Lurkers, make an account and join. Without you we can not hope to thrive. As said, this is aiming to be a whole new story, fresh and open for any and all to join.

In The Buffalo Town of Soakgrowth, 1st of Granite 250, The Age of Heroes

Lolama Styledyelled walked across the library in the great city of Soakgrowth, first city of the Buffalo. It had stood against nature and changelings since time was first recorded. But Lolama was not a Buffalo, but a Zebra staying in the city to use its vast library to further his research. Lolama's name was known far and wide and many apprentices dreamed of coming under his tutelage, for all of his past and former students have been great writers in their own right. But for now, Lolama had just sent his last apprentice on their way, their teaching complete, he decided to take time off to do what no one had done before.

He grabbed quires, quills and ink and sat at a table and began to write...

As for the named ponies, just say which type you want, Pegasus, Earth, or Unicorn. I will do my best to find you one. Due to the fact that, unlike the previous fort, our Civ is still alive and well at a lush 14000 ponies, Pop won't be a problem this time around.

Upon an Expansive Plain Under the Starry Night Sky

A lone wagon slowly lumbered along, pulled by two horses. Six figures trotted alongside, one drove the wagon. One with wings, three with horns, and three with neither. Under the expansive sky they trotted, seven little ponies driven from their homes. Seven little ponies looking for a safe place to rest. They had been travelling for weeks. The last Pony holdouts against the changelings were abandoned. The plague had been the straw that broke the pony's back. After centuries of fighting the buffalo tribes and fending off the changelings, a simple disease had laid the fatal blow. The seven that now traveled were life-long friends. They had been through high and low. Now they wandered, braving the harsh chill of a northern winter, they pressed on, looking for a place to call home.

    Spoiler (click to show/hide)

The last Princess had died over two centuries ago. Since that time, no one had risen up to claim the holy mantle that all ponies revere. These last two centuries were full of nothing but hardships for these poor little ponies. The ruling elite had tried to cheer them up with the occasional festival, but to no avail. The ponies remained downtrodden. Even several generations later, the mood had not improved. The Buffalo, the long time enemies of the Ponies, were defeated. Not by the ponies, but by the Changeling Empires of the north. But there was little cause for celebration. It was around that time when the plague hit. Ponies died left and right, severely reducing the already low population.

    Spoiler (click to show/hide)

By the year 249, the last two settlements of the Pony Nation, The Mirth of Cloistering, had been wiped out. The survivors left, each to pursue their own way in the wilderness. There were rumors that a few ponies had managed to learn the secrets of life and death and establish a tower in the north, but the group of seven did not dare to venture near the heretics. No, they were on their own. They would keep traveling for months, stopping periodically to rest and resupply, but they never found the right spot for their new home. They knew they would find it, it was only a matter of time before they did. But until they found it, they kept going.

On traveled that lonely wagon with the seven little ponies.

Welcome to my new community fort. I'm a brony, let's just put that out there now. I enjoy the show, and when I saw the My Little Fortress mod... I had to play it. To be clear, this is my first play through of the mod. I have no idea what to expect. Now, I will try to post updates weekly, sometimes I may do more than five a week, or just two, but I will always try to do at least one.

I welcome any and all side-stories, head-canons and fan submitted content. If you wished to be ponied, just say so and I'll do my best to fit you in. The world I genned had its pony Civilization die one year before I played, so we're gonna be short on ponies for the first few years.

This is just a test thread to see if any will be interested in starting a fresh succession game... with a twist.

    Spoiler (click to show/hide)

That's Right, I'm planning on starting a pony fort. As a long time brony, I appreciate the effort into this mod. I hope I can scrape together just enough people to join me. I'm open to ideas and suggestions. If you want to join the fort, just say so. If you have no idea how to use the mod, don't worry I don't kno how to either).

Case File #1623: The Lost Colony

    Inquirer Ryukan, Agent-in-Charge

To the Council in Tombcrest, After an extensive expedition and excavation project, we finally got results on the early morning of 17th Limonite 327. Our miners breached the site and allowed our teams to move in. After only a few hours of searching, we discovered the bodies of all the citizens of the fortress, including the remains of one Cog the Architect. In the hands of this individual, we found a dusty journal, in which this was the last entry.

From this excerpt and the conditions of the corpses, we can deduce that the expedition fell victim to a viral infection that wiped out the entirety of the population. The remains of one individual have yet to be recovered though. Derm the Soulchopper's remains where not among the other's in the fortress. After a cursory check of the caverns we deduced that he alone survived the fate of the fortress. As to his whereabouts? It is anyone's guess.

I leave this Case file to the Council to review.

With your leave and awaiting your orders,

    Ryukan

    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Welcome to the Fortress. This going to be a "sequel" to the famous Towersoared, though in a more Spiritual Successor way than a direct sequel. I plan to begin later this weekend, I will be following traditional succession rules, two week time limit etc. The "goal" of this fort, is to live up to, and one day maybe surpass, it's predecessor. So huge towering projects that defy those who mock us, a military to rival the clowns of H.F.S. and to create one or two physical gods while we're at it.

DF Community Games & Stories / Tales from Zuspozsmaksmo: The Wolf General
    « on: October 06, 2016, 10:57:48 am »
By the Year 110, since time was first recorded, the entirety of The Momentous Land has endured peace. All except for the center, where the great goblin tribes, united under the rule of Nosin Thiefpoison, waged constant war against the free peoples of the land. Long had the Humans of The Ivory Realms and The Lone Kingdoms kept this threat to peace as their burden, their responsibility. Hundreds of their men and women had met their end upon the pikes of The Fly of Circumstance. But their effort was not for naught, many goblins had met their, well-earned, ends upon the vengeful swords of the humans. Though then alone in that fight, it has not always been the case. The Dwarves of The Barricaded Fountains had been fighting the goblins and the Great Wolf Brute since time's beginning. Only after a Roc destroyed Paddledfortresses (the Mountainhome of the dwarves) in 73, did they begin to disappear. Since then, the humans, with intermittent help from the remnants of the dwarves, stood alone in the fight, keeping the wave of green-skinned hell out of the rest of the world.

    Spoiler (click to show/hide)

But in the Early Summer in the Year 111, something happened which would alter the course of the war...

    -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This is going to be a series of short stories that I'm going to be doing in my personal world. After I finish with legends mode, I will do a few adventurers and maybe a fort or two. Let me know what you think, and I hope you enjoy.

(Disclaimer: All of these people and places are real, these stories, however, are vaguely based on the real deal)

Gloomdiamonds: The Doom Saga - Book II

A shadowy figure stood atop a rocky outcropping, surveying their surroundings under an absent moon. A hot wind pierced their billowing robes, but notice they did not. A lifeless desert stretched before them. A barely trickling stream ran its way past the base of the rock and continued for as far as the eye could see on this flat expanse.
Another figure, this one robed as well but carrying a Hammer, approached the Black robed figure.
"A fine night isn't it Imic?" The Black robed figure said.
"Are we really going to do this Airith? After all that has happened, you still want to go through with it?" Imic replied.
          "There was nothing in
That Place Imic. Remember why we created a mine there, and we aren't the only ones, remember?" Airith questioned.
As if summoned by the question, two more figures appeared and walked over to join the duo.
"Really Airith? THIS is our new home?" Asked one of the new-comers incredulously.
"Yes Flame. This is the place, I've scoured the Multi-verse, this is the place with the richest source of
it I could find." Airith defended.
"Well, I still say we should've stayed in that world instead of coming to a new one to start over." Said the second new-comer.
"And deal with the forces of Hell?" Imic retorted."If you want to go back Drazoth, then be my guest."
Drazoth's silence was his answer. The group remained standing there atop the rock.
"Well, just stay out of my way, last time you guys didn't even give me a chance." Imic declared.
"Ha, I'll give you no sympathy, nor will I to any of you. I am here for my prize, as are you all." Drazoth proclaimed.
"Then its settled then. I've already arranged a grant from the local King and a group of seven is on their way. When they arrive... well

This is the continuing story of the Doom Saga, first introduced in Doomforest. Known for its excessive Roleplaying, Doomforest created a thick plot that will continue well into this new chapter of Dwarven History. Don't be afraid to add your story to this saga, nothing, NOTHING will make it worse. Due to setbacks and problems that plagued the first fort, I will play but the beginning year, afterwards, I will take on a more narrative role. I WILL enforce the real-life time deadline. You may also Roleplay without playing a year of the fort if you don't feel comfortable exposing your mind to its (guaranteed) madness. Welcome to Gloomdiamonds.
