DF Community Games & Stories / Bookhold: The Great Libray (Reboot)
« on: June 14, 2016, 09:00:29 am »
The Great Library

In the cold depths of the Mountainhomes, a young dwarf dreams. Dreams of books. Books of history. Books of art. Books of fiction. Books, books, and more books. In his society, physical prowess is valued above that of mental ability. He and his six like-minded friends decide to apply for a land grant. After a week of preparation and waiting, he recieves his permission directly from the king! Though he has no experience outside of his books, his friends are more able-bodied than him. They agree on a vague direction and set off. The wide open world excepts them, though whether it tolerates them is matter that only time can tell.

This is my first attempt at a purely solo, community fort. So, in-between managing Doomforest (you should check it out if you haven't), and other forts, I will work on this. I will update it every weekend.

Dorfing Rules:
Like other Community Forts, you may request a dorfing, but, unlike other Community Forts, I will only dorf dwarves who have fulfilled a mood. I will then name them Professor of (insert product of mood here, i.e. when a dwarf completes, say a mug, it will then be named, Professor of Brewing).

Objectives:
  • Collect a copy of every book in this world
  • Collect a copy of all poetry
  • Build a Library that could rival any that exist in RL
  • Create an Adamantine Codex
  • Grow Strawberries in Hell

So, wish me luck, I'll gen the world
Parameters:
Large World
Medium History
Max Civs
Max beasts
Max Savagery
Frequent Minerals

I originally started this idea back in 2015, but RL and other forts stole my attention, but now I'm free and I will now continue this forgotten dream.

DF Community Games & Stories / The Journey of Ryukan Whitegold
« on: May 05, 2016, 11:11:48 am »
In Some Far Dimension, Where Time Does Not Reign

Ryukan was drifting in and out of this space. He had been here before, when he received his title of Head of the Order. He would have to hurry up and find what he looked for here. He drifted through this space, nothing but black. At times, he thought he wasn't even moving, but he had been here before and knew that it was just an illusion. Before much longer he spotted a stone structure floating in the expanse. This was his goal. The birthplace of the Order, The Void Temple.

As Ryukan entered the huge gateway, we walked great distances to a set of familiar doors. He stopped, took a deep breath and walked in (knocking would be meaningless in this place).

As he entered, he spoke, a sound that was like a scream in this infinitely dark and silent place.

"I have come my Master" Ryukan said as he knelt before a pedestal, on which was statue of an unknown substance. The statue was in the likeliness of an Elven Goddess. But Ryukan knew better, this being took on the shape of anything it deemed, right now a Dark Elf, and held enough power to rival that of Armok's.

After minutes, Ryukan thought that his words were lost on the stone. But then the stone began to crack and fall off, revealing a figure of pure beauty. Skin as white as (sorry for the pun) snow, and hair as purple as royal robes. The figure wore a dress of silk that was every color and no color all at once.

"I hear you my most faithful student" It spoke with a voice of that like many speaking at once.

"My master, we are in trouble" Ryukan spoke fervently.

"What can trouble you Ryukan? You who stole the Palantir of Annuminas, the Triforce of Hyrule, the  Four Crowns of Cair Paravel; You who defeated the Armies of Gondor, King's Landing, Tamriel, and Hyrule in the same day. Tell me o servant, what is it you are afraid of?" The Being replied.

"My Death"

The Journey of Ryukan Whitegold

I will be playing an adventuring game, one with my titular character Ryukan (Background in the Doomforest and Constructivory threads). Ryukan will be questing for revenge against the mountainking who wronged him in the past.

Come join Ryukan Whitegold as he revisits his past, as well as he meets his destiny, or prevents it.

I will begin updates this weekend, and will do updates every weekend after this. My writing style is heavily reliant on RPing, so this Let's Play will be very in depth, I will tell of Ryukan's backstory and his past life, for those who might have been wondering in the other threads. And as always, Fanart is appreciated and actually encouraged.

So, until this weekend...

It is a cold morning filled with rain as a caravan of seven dwarves lumber forward.
On they trek through the vast wilds and endless rain.
Any sane dwarf would turn back, but these are no ordinary dwarves.
Death they have seen. Death and horror beyond words.
Survivor is too kind a word to place upon these poor souls.
They are searching for a home. A place a refuge they can build.
And upon the slopes of a mountain they stop.
To the north, Humans.
To the East, Elves.
To the West, A Tower
To the South, Goblins.

Here they will build the most secure place in dwarven history.
Here they will create untold riches.
Here they will thrive.
The Name of this refuge? Doomhold... wait what?

The Successor to HorrorFailed, Doomhold

I have taken it upon my self to create this next chapter of the Battlefailed Saga. The game will follow the standard Succession rules,
  • One in-game year, two RL weeks
  • DO NOT try to purposely screw over the fort

And that's about it...

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / A Very Serious Question
« on: March 15, 2016, 06:24:03 pm »
Ok, I've played Dwarf Fortress for 3 years and one things has bugged me about these recent updates...

How come I can generate a world with its own Civilizations, peoples, languages, wars, battles, duels, vampire-hunts, kings etc. etc. in under 5 minutes, but it takes 10 to pass two weeks?

Riddle me this

36
The cry of the cold wind warns us of the presumed torment which is to come as we trudge through this sparse forest. It's damned cold this time of year, and the trees offer little protection from the winds.
Stripmining has left the mountainhomes empty. Our expedition of seven is expected to uncover vast mineral deposits and establish a mining outpost in a land beset on all sides by goblins, elves and humans.
The frozen over brook which ends in a waterfall atop a high cliff is a telltale sign. I turn to Urist and tell him to stop the caravan.
This must be it, we have reached Doomforests.
I hear a distant screech.

Armok have mercy on our souls.
The Continuation of the Saga of Doomforest

Come join the convoluted mess that is Doomforest. When this fortress was started back in 2014, no one would even guess that it would be going "strong" well into 2016. Complete with Goblin Overlords, Vampiric Doomsday Sects, Soap, Forgotten Snails, Soap, Another Forgotten Snail, Soap, Cults, more Cults, Evil Demonic Beings, Soap, A colony of forgotten dwarves founded by a Were-Lizard, Soap, and a noticeable lack of Strawberries. And soap.

Due to some unexpected complications within the last thread, including but not limited to, the threads owner going AWOL, I was tasked with the construction of this new thread.
