DT .23 (and .23.1) is crashing on my DF40.04 save (started in DF40.03)
do you want to take a look? if so, where should I upload my save?

just read back a bit, maybe it's the migrants/squads thing.
how would I find which dwarfs are migrants/causing the problem so I can remove and add them to a squad?
maybe I should just remove everyone and re-add them.

edit again:
re-read all those posts about the crash and realised it's caused by a new migrant who's not yet been put in a squad, and I need to find that dwarf and put him in a squad in this fortress.
what am I looking for in the DF run.log? from what I understand from the other posts, he's a dwarf from a prior fort (maybe this one from before I abandoned, then reclaimed?) who was in a squad back then.

dwarfs were supposed to be able to get out of water if they were next to a ramp.. maybe that's broken again (I seem to remember a bugfix ages ago where toady made dwarfs a bit less likely to drown)
I think they seem to be drowning a bit quicker in this version too, anyone confirm?

I've not seen sparing yet, I did see demonstrations in .02
I've not really run long enough to see sparing.

I've noticed that they're more likely to do individual when they're in a squad, but not on active training though.

I....
don't even....
why/when would this ever not be ok?

The only situation where I could ever see this as a problem is if you were a closed alpha/beta tester and you'd signed NDA.

So SJ has been hard at work implementing hinges, here's a couple of teasers for you:

Arwing in the... er 'go forward' configuration:

Arwing in the 'reverse thrust' configuration:

Not yet public released, & currently it's just the designer that can do it. shouldn't be too long before the game engine proper can do it. dibs in on the first test game!

This needs to be on the wiki.

Don't get me wrong, the criticism was/is, imho constructive.
and, I agree. parallelism is the future.

An architect doesn't have to look at a detailed plan of a building to criticize the design, looking at the building is normally enough.

Got the quote, smiled a little smile.

I'm hoping for a christmas present. though I'll probably be disappointed.

wooooow...
All this talk about the UI, and hardly anyone points out that most of the OP's list of problems(OP's 2nd post) are not UI related at all, and some may even be improved/fixed/completely different in the new release (non fatal combat should do interesting things to capital punishment and brawling in general)

you windows users may also be interested in the pbw client I wrote, I've just updated the release so it will work with a small change to PBW. also tweaked the gamesettings.ini for THANCS to load the game/turn/player file.

What does it do?
automates the checking for new turns,
downloading new turns,
unpacking new turns,
running new turns,
uploading new turns.

each of these processes can be done at the touch... push? click! of a button in the PBWAutoclient, rather than visiting PBW, looking at the games, clicking to download the game, once it's downloaded unpacking it to the correct folder, then launching the game, then afterwards going to PBW again, clicking upload, then finding the game file you want to upload... etc. etc.
ekolis complains that it could automate more, ie by just downloading, then unpacking without you having to click, but eh. the current version works and I'm lazy.

to use, download the release: https://github.com/se5a/PBWAutoClient/releases/tag/v0.2-beta
(or the source, and compile if you're so inclined) unpack it to wherever you like, run the executable, click settings.
in the Server Settings tab change your PBW Login from Xintis to your PBW username, and your PBW password.
in the Game Settings tab scroll down to
THANCS
select the entry under gameExe and edit it from F:\Program Files (x86)\Games\THANCS2\THANCS-perlgui.exe to wherever you've got THANCS installed.
tweek the THANCS->MODS->stock_thancs_0->savepath as well.
repeat with any other PBW games you play. (I know it works with THANCS, FrEee, seIV, and I'm told it works with seV as well)

feel free to post bug reports, though unless it's a really serious and/or easy to figure out I've been pretty lazy with updating it.  feel free to fork and do pull requests too. that's even better than bug reports :p

fabricators just allow you to spawn individual components or already designed ships for credits.
you can also scrap wreckage with them. (which gives you credits)
