DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: Goblin siege trap needed.

The spike traps never ever jam, but weapon traps can if they land a killing blow on an enemy.
Thus if you want to fight a whole bunch of enemies using a few weapon traps, use weapons that indirectly kill.

Smashing weapons that will break bones but not kill, leaving the enemy to bleed out or suffocate. Slashing weapons are usually a no as they can cut of a goblin's head and then jamming.
You could theoretically use crossbows but they would need to be refilled. Stabbing weapons won't usually kill unless it's a headshot, but even then it'll usually just tear muscle.

Another idea is to set up a row of fortifications in your entrance and then dig a small pit in front of it. Set up some crossbow dwarves to fire into the siege. The pit should stop goblin archers from getting next to the fortification and firing at your dwarves. Note that this will not work if they have elite archers as they can shoot through fortifications from afar.

Only course of action is to set up a primitive prison camp for elves.

Force them to cut down trees and craft -wooden cups-!

What way are we taking this?

Is it meant to be serious, or are we making them jokes? Or a mix?

That said, we could easily make two lists. Would be a shame to waste all these excellent ideas so far.

ALso try to wear the best armor possible, eg bronze, iron,STEAL,adamantine

Freudian slip? I've never been able to find steel that wasn't being worn (except once at a temple shrine)  :)

Never died, but I have ended up getting attacked by them.

Try to calm them down through the talk menu. If they refuse then slaughter them I guess.

DF Adventure Mode Discussion / Re: Moments of Remorse
« on: May 13, 2016, 04:01:42 am »
In one of my early adventures I didn't fully understand how to trade and buy stuff. I picked up a sword that I wanted and tried to give him my coins. I didn't realise it was in the talk menu at the time.

After a while of confusion, I got fed up and threw my coins at him. The silver coins hit him in the body and shattered his upper spine. I sat there watching him slowly suffocate.

I felt bad so I tried to give him his sword back... I annoyed at not being able to do this again and ended up storing it blade first in his torso... Then he died of suffocation.

Even our school issued laptops are 64 bit now... People with 32 bit computers are going to have bigger problems than not being able to play Dwarf Fortress.

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: What's going on in your fort?

I just had to kill 3 animals. A llama, a buffalo and a donkey. All so I could have some leather for a possessed Tanner.

Now, what did he make using the skins of 3 huge animals, all larger than him? One mitten. A single mitten. A left mitten to be exact. Urist McTanner, I hope the lives of those 3 animals, one which was still a child mind you, were substantial enough to make your single leather mitten.

Myxomatosis (sometimes shortened to "myxo" or "myxy") is a disease that affects rabbits and is caused by the myxoma virus. It was first observed in Uruguay in laboratory rabbits in the late 19th century. It was introduced into Australia in 1950 in an attempt to control the rabbit population (see Rabbits in Australia). Affected rabbits develop skin tumors, and in some cases blindness, followed by fatigue and fever; they usually die within 14 days of contracting the disease.

I suspected this is what they used to exterminate them. I myself used to have 2 pet rabbits. They caught myxo and died. It's completely curable and a vaccine exists, but they don't let you use it in Australia for fear of your releasing your immune rabbits into the wild.

RIP: Winny and Otto 2013-2015

I would have thought after losing the great emu war that Australians would have learned their lesson about messing with wild animals.

Wait what? How do I not know about any of this stuff?  :-\

Emus are native, why are we killing them  :(

It seems that there are more Dwarf sites closer to the pits than your fort. Maybe they are preoccupied.

343
You Aussies already tried something similar with your rabbits.  I don't remember if it was herpes, but your government unleashed some type of bioterrorism on an invasive species already.

PS It didn't really work.  Killed a ton, rest left immune.  Somehow, the rabbits repopulated like rabbits and are back to old levels.

Well, at least rabbits are cuter and significantly less murderous than carps. Although if the thing with the carps is likely to fail an backfire, then I'm not in support of it :/

344
Are there closer sites the invaders might be prioritizing over yours? Also could be that your site is too difficult to reach, mountains and such are impassable and so armies need to travel around them.

You could give the dwarves an attack that injects the enemy with a syndrome (herpes).

Shouldn't be too hard to do, attack log would be something like:

Fishery Worker stabs Carp in the head, tearing the fat and bruising the muscle!
Herpes Virus is injected into the the Carp's blood!

Also, as an Australian, I must admit I didn't realise Carp were any sort of problem. Additionally, I see nothing wrong with the use of herpes to kill them (if they are indeed a problem).
The chances of someone catching herpes from intimacy with a carp seems rather slim, so bombs away I say,
