Captain's Log. Stardate 4032. My crew have just discovered a planet with strange humanoid inhabitants that call themselves "dwarves". These strange creatures are so constantly drunk that they just walked up to a dangerous creature they call a "titan" and tried to punch it to death, despite it towering over them. Always use LNP. Always. So I'd recommend waiting until the v.0.43.02 LNP is out.

LNP makes changing graphics incredibly easy. I vote for Pheobus, it's easy to read.Also use TWBT, it makes it a lot easier to read actual text.

I'm voting for all utilities being okay, save outright DFHack cheating. Visualizers are fine (e.g., Armok Vision and Stonesense), gameplay helpers and organizational aids are okay (like Dwarf Therapist), and autodump and other DFHack commands are okay (but not autodump destroy), since they're something you could do anyway if you had way too much time on your hands.
you can use autodump to take all weapons and armor off invaders. you can use autodump to drop near-infinite anvils on keas. you can use autodump to take things out of aquifers. you can use autodump to move 500 slade boulders in 0 seconds.
autodump is an extremely powerful tool. therefore autodump is not "something you could do anyway if you had way too much time on your hands."

Anvils are much more dwarfy
no offense, but serrated blades are forged weapons that slice their opponents' bloody limbs off in a trap. dwarves are forgers, and architects of traps. therefore a serrated blade is much more dwarfy.

Use a support to drop a small section of rock in such a way that the gremlin will be put in a cage trap. tame the gremlin, and force him to haul for his attempted crimes. ;D

To the new rules, I would suggest something along the lines of having the ability to enact noticeable change on the fort without migrant intervention. With what I did, nothing the poor dwarf could do would make any significant difference to anyone or anything. I would say pickaxes shouldn't be strictly necessary, but being locked in an inescapable, un-farmable room without one would be removing said ability for productivity.
If  someone locked away a dwarf with a small supply of food and plenty of wood, would that be having the ability to enact noticeable change on the fort without migrant intervention, considering the dwarf could make stuff?

Wait, I maybe went too far with my description of how bad I am. I can probably survive, so long as I don't try to do crazy stuff.
But filling the entire fort with magma isn't crazy if you have a good reason, such as seeing the faces on the gobbos(and then of course watching the faces burn off.)

To sort of answer to the Days vs. Ticks debate, couldn't toady add a DWF_STRETCH to all uses of ticks?
And since certain creatures don't live a full day in real life, it should use ticks not days.
Sidequestion:can vermin mate in-game(the creatures that live less than day would be vermin, probably)?
