RULE ZERO
BE EXCELLENT TO EACH OTHER
RULE ONE
NO GAMES WORKSHOP LORE OR RULESETS, THEY HAVE THEIR OWN THREAD

Just figured it was distinct enough from the other threads.

What you painting? What you building? What you playing?

I'm putting together some 15mm scifi for Gruntz and looking to buy maybe another force to show off the ruleset. Might buy some 15mm fantasy or historical for Hordes of the Things, too.

General Discussion / Free Speech - The Thread
« on: January 22, 2016, 06:07:32 pm »
Since Gregory Alan Elliot has been declared not guilty (which is really no sort of a shock since there was nothing even approaching illegal that he did) and Germany and the Netherlands having some serious problems with freedom of expression lately, I think a free speech thread might be an idea.

So, guys: What do you think should be protected under freedom of speech? Should it be everything? Everything except violence? Everything except anything offensive? Where should the limitations on freedom of speech be set? Is it inhibiting someone's freedom of speech for a customer to get someone fired based on their political opinions?

Just some seeder questions for you guys.

P.S. Be excellent to each other.

What've you all been reading in the genre of "speculative fiction"?

I just finished the new Mistborn and wew that was a fucking wild ride. Seriously, I think Brandon is really honing his craft but I guess that's what happens when you write this many books.

Mod Releases / [Glorantha] Uz Caves - Version 0.3.1
« on: January 17, 2016, 02:22:44 pm »

Version 0.3.1 of Uz Caves
What The Hell's An "Uz"?
Uz, known as trolls to the myriad peoples of mankind, are a type of (mostly) humanoid creature from the setting of Glorantha. They are creatures born from a fusion of the Darkness and Man runes. They were one of the first races to be born within the world and are therefore capable of eating anything as a form of sustenance (including air, although they prefer not to). They are cannibals, willing to eat both their own people and enjoying to eat other sentients. They keep their deformed relatives in slavery and sometimes just eat them for no reason other than hunger. They are harsh and cruel and completely inhuman in their habits.

But they are not evil. Uz are the fools of fate. They have had every single thing stolen from them in their fight against the evil that is Chaos itself. They stood up to true evil and found themselves broken by it.

History of the Uz
Once, the Uz dwelt within Wonderhome. Wonderhome had no light at all. Every uz was a mistress race troll, an uzuz, gifted and magically powerful and the world was perfect.

Then the Sun God Yelm was killed and, in his descent to hell, he passed through Wonderhome. One of the children of the uz's main god (Kyger Litor) was burned to death by the Sun's passing through Wonderhome. In her grief, Kyger Litor cursed her children with her sorrow, leading to them never being able to birth an uzuz again. The dark trolls, the uzko, were the only ones able to be born from uz wombs.

The uz found themselves unable to dwell within Wonderhome and instead travelled to live in caves upon the surface. There, they ruled the world in the time known as the Great Darkness.

The sun eventually found it's way back into the sky and the uz went back into their caves. Eventually a council of all the races was formed. In it's hubris, it sook to summon / create a god. The uz refused to participate as they could tell it was wrong.

They were right. Gbaji the Liar was born. The trolls fought against him and Chaos and, as they did so, they found themselves doubly cursed. Now their wombs often gave birth to twisted sickly creatures known as trollkin who to the uz are called enlo ("little twisted ones").

In the end, Gbaji was defeated through the combined forces of all the races. The trolls found themselves without a true place in the world and members of a fading race. In an era where empires of men rule the surface, trolls dwell within caves, feeding on their undersized kin and insects.

What The Hell's Glorantha?
Glorantha is one of the oldest roleplaying systems ever made. It was very unique and alien, but years of other settings (Warhammer Fantasy being a big one) taking concepts off of it have lead to some parts of it seeming derivative. The best description would be that if you imagine that Middle Earth was made by a study of language the Glorantha was made by a study of mythology. All myths are true and all myths are false, including the contradictory ones.

Glorantha is one of the best settings out there and I highly suggest you guys pick up King of Dragon Pass and give it a try. It's exceptional and exceptionally hard. The ruleset used for Glorantha (RuneQuest) has been used for everything and was probably the principle inspiration for most of the Elder Scrolls games (one of the designers for an edition of RuneQuest worked on both Morrowind and Oblivion).

If you want more information, have a look at the Lore of Glorantha on Tumblr, the Prince of Sartar comic or go to Glorantha.com.

Planned Functionality
Uzuz Powers
The uzuz are the matriarch race of trolls. They are ancient, immortal and all powerful. Their magical abilities are so great they rival gods. They will have a variety of powers that allow them to blind enemies and use the powers of darkness.
Scarification for Power
Trolls often scar the runes of their gods into their flesh. They will be capable of performing rites of passage that permanently grant them greater magical power in exchange for this. This is a small chance that those that enter will die in the process, however.
More Pet Insects
The uz have a variety of insects that they have as pets, including giant rideable wasps. More of them will be added, including possibly spirits of darkness such as dehori.

DF Modding / "Not the Sunlight!" - Making creatures that hate sunlight?
« on: January 16, 2016, 11:44:33 am »
Hey, guys, does anyone have any idea how to rig up an interaction or something that makes creatures sick if they go into direct sunlight? Like cave adaptation but more extreme?

DF Modding / Token Suggestions
« on: January 15, 2016, 02:55:05 pm »
Also posted on the suggestions forum.

One of the big parts of DF's popularity is how moddable it is, so these tokens don't even have to be implemented with anything in the base game, just there so people can edit it. Post all your token suggestions here and I'll compile them into one big list. Please include the category of your token before you post it so I can easily sort them to be read through.

Post them in the following format:
Token Type
[TOKEN]: What this token would do. Why this token should exist.

Other Games / The MUD Thread

Anyone else here into playing MUDs? If you are, what've you been playing?

I've had a bash at Legends of the Jedi, DiscworldMUD and DartMUD recently. Kind of enjoyed Legends of the Jedi but the lack of ability to play a force user is disappointing. DartMUD I couldn't even get started in because of how "brick wall" the game seems to be (no idea how the developers expect new players to start out without begging older ones) but it looks like it'd be good if I could get beyond that. DiscworldMUD has probably been the best out of all of them, especially playing a wizard and causing places to get filled with magical radiation.

What's your poison, guys?
