Other Games / Re: Black Desert, the new Korean Grindfest 9000

I've heard it was originally pretty good early on in the Korean beta but constant whining and design changes have ruined everything that was good about the game.

Even the fanboys are a bit leery of playing it now.

What a shame, I had high hopes. MMOs always dash them, though.

I guess what I mean is

If I want my Spider to be a better wizard in game... It should wear a Monocle for every level of Wizard it has.

Is that show still running? I can't even remember what it was called.

<snip>

I think you've impressively managed to mangle together both the equality and gender quotas debate. I do not even know where to begin to unravel this.

I don't think anyone is arguing against you though, really. I do not think anyone is making the arguments you're fighting against. Even Orange and LordBucket are just saying that what you're presenting does not hold to any reasonable standard of realism in the modern world.

To go to your magic machine example: What if a woman using the magic machine without twice as much training as a man awoke an eldritch beast that would swallow the earth? Should we train women to use it, then?

Think about everything it takes to get him to that point though! Do we really need a janitor to get 13+ years of schooling, access to modern medicine, etc? And then if you want him to work for you, he has to be compensated enough that he can afford high-tech luxuries like televisions and refrigerators. All those resources are effectively being poured down the drain for a janitor. It's best to throw him into the woods at a young age and just get it over with.
If the resources he consumes could be better used by a stronger or smarter person, it is a waste to give them to him.
If we kill everyone except the intelligent men, there will be enough.
Dude, if you want to be 2016's master trole, you need to present something at least approaching my viewpoint or anything approaching logic at all.

If not, try to present your own different solution.

What makes you think the short guy has an inherent strength of some sort? Humanity isn't magically designed so that everyone has a special unique talent. Some people are better and some are worse, that's undeniable. So the worse ones should be shot. Or at least left to wither and die.

If he is incompetent at everything, then there are plenty of necessary careers that do not require him to have any particular skills or abilities. Direct this short, unintelligent, uncharismatic etc etc man to be a cleaner or a fast food worker or any sort of an unskilled labourer. Any of them are very needed jobs that don't require you to be amazing skilled.

And then there is skilled labouring which doesn't demand a particularly difficult standard of perfection. This man could do them.

Humanity isn't a race of machines, efficiency shouldn't be placed above anything else.

By the same tract of logic that is "starve people who can't or won't contribute to society", should prisoners who aren't stamping license plates or doing workshop things be culled?
Depressed or suicidal people work less than content people, and it takes resources to maintain suicide prevention systems, should we shut them down and have people who needed that help be removed?

Morally, there are very few people who would stand for the death or removal of people who can't or won't contribute, and pragmatically, the resources, support, and information required to pull this off would be impossible to obtain.

Of course it should. Why should it not?

I did not suggest they should starve (although I will note that the threat of starvation has kept people working for millenia), merely that directing them to something more suitable for their talents is better for them and for society as a whole. They will be fulfilled and society will be contributed to.

If those suicidal people will never contribute and they will never live happy lives, why should they not have the option to take their own lives? This is another discussion entirely, though.

The issue is that well meaning and emotions is getting in the way of people feeling fulfilled. It's giving people unrealistic expectations and entitlement that reality just cannot live up to. If you're short, you're short. Don't cry that the tall man is tall. Find something that doesn't require to wear stilts and do it.

So as you all know I've been making monsters for 5th for fun (and to use later)

One thing I haven't been able to get a handle on how much damage anything should do...

I've always played with damage on my custom creatures.

Like I had a Krampus that didn't do much direct damage but his primary thing was ice mephits and chains. He also had a permanent snowstorm around him.

So every turn the players would take one extra damage over the last turn (as in they went 1,2,3...n each turn) whilst being bound up by chains and tar pitted by ice mephits. They started to panic when they realised they were down half life and their health was still steadily decreasing.

I don't know what to tell you except to be inventive.

Really, we should shoot the short guy and let the tall guy stand on his body. No matter what, the short man will never give the same back to society as the tall person for an equal investment of resources. So since everything he does is effectively a waste, it is ideal to prevent him from consuming any resources ever again.
Eh, 3/5

The real question here is: should we also shoot the average guy? I'm leaning yes.
5/5 top kek.

Seriously, though, the idea that the short people don't have a contributory value is not mine. It is that the short people cannot contribute based on tallness. Which they cannot.

Why can't the short guy find something in which he has an inherent strength instead of demanding special power in something he isn't good at?

Should short people be given springy shoes to play basketball?

As Lee Kuan Yew said: "Humanity is not equal."

Which is true. Let's say I have a drug that would allow the dumbest person alive to be as clever as the smartest, but it had the same effect on people of all intelligence. So, the smartest would be an order of magnitude smarter than the dumbest.

Is it equal to give them all this drug? Is it fair to give them all this drug? What should I do?

Why should the smartest man not have his full potential realised because it would make the drug enhanced dumbest person look bad?

The crates thing is dishonest. It presents a binary situation (the ability to see / not see) that is very rare in the modern world. If I cannot reach the highest shelf because a short person needed one of my crates to reach the lowest, is that fair on me? You would deny me my great potential to give someone potential that is essentially meaningless.

You should not ask if it is fair to take the giant's crates away. You should ask if it is fair to cut his legs off.

So far, getting hit by bowcaster is death for mooks, injury for named characters. Because the internet just helped promote Nines to named status, he retroactively survived.
He probably put on his Reactive Armour Plate the right way round, unlike pretty much every other clone/storm/order-trooper...

I've always wondered why they even bother with the armor, since they never portray it as protecting them from anything.

This is why.

The point isn't that they advocate it, it's that what it winds up being.

By the same logic I could say that people against afirmative action dont advocate for fascism, it's that what it winds up being.  Slippery slope arguments are a fallacy for a reason.
It's still a slippery slope.  You are tarring anyone wearing a different political hat from you as inevitably leading to consequences of genre.

Slippery slope fallacy doesn't mean what you think it means. Suggesting that the logic leads to a given conclusion isn't a slippery slope fallacy.

REPORT: Locals Fled Pool After Migrants Masturbated Into Jacuzzi, Defecated Into Kid’s Pool, Invaded Girls Changing Rooms

A German swimming bath has banned migrants from entering the premises after a group of men went on an obscene rampage, laughing in the faces of pool staff when challenged about their grotesque behaviour.

A group of migrant men and women were caught on security camera at the Johannisbad baths in Zwickau, Saxony engaging in unacceptable behaviour, including masturbating into the jacuzzi. In separate incidents other groups of migrants were caught “contaminating” the children’t training pool by “emptying their bowels in the water”, and sexually assaulting other bathers, reports Bild.

The allegations against the migrant bathers has come to light thanks to a leaked internal letter from the Zwickau Town Hall, between the chief clerk to his department head, reproduced in part by German tabloid Bild. Writing of the historic swimming pool’s decision to close their doors to migrants until further notice, Rainer Kallweit wrote this week of a shocking incident which has left the baths abandoned by local swimmers.

In his report, the authenticity of which has since been confirmed by the city administration Mr. Kallweit wrote the shocking words:

“An asylum seeker has masturbated in the hot tub and ejaculated into the basin. This is also recorded on the surveillance camera”. He wrote that the group desecrating the jacuzzi, having been thrown out by the lifeguards later returned took “selfies” of themselves while they were in the tub, “jeering” the whole time.

Writing of another pool under his jurisdiction in the down of Zwickau, the town employee continued to say a group of “young unaccompanied women and children” used the children’s training pool, as none of the party could swim. He wrote, in classic civil servants language they “contaminated the pool by getting rid of the contents of their intestines. Native people immediately left the pool”.

This was not the only assault on the pool. The day before, wrote Mr. Wallweit “8 foreign men … in the sauna” harassed locals, forcing pool staff to pretend the Sauna was out of action when enquiries were made my migrant men, if there were at that time local women using it. He told his superiors: “furthermore, the lifeguards have to protect women and girls from the asylum seekers. Young men wanted to forcibly penetrate the female changing room”.

Police are now investigating the allegations, and in future will be called immediately in case of such behaviour.

The local radio station reports the actions of the migrants has caused “outrage”, and a number of sexual harassment of women and girls by migrants has been reported. Migrants have now been banned from the pool until they can be educated at the migrant centres about “behaviour towards woman and girls in swimwear” and the “user regulations of our baths”.

This behaviour in Zwickau is not by any means unique in Germany. Breitbart London has reported on a number of sex attacks on children in swimming baths over the past week, with girls as young as 11 and boys as young as three being targeted by migrant gangs. On one occasion in Munich, a pair of young girls enjoying the waterslide at their local pool were groped, “allegedly under their bathing suits”, “and possibly raped” by a gang of “refugees”.

The men believed to be responsible, Syrian and Afghan asylum seekers, were arrested and released by police.

It's Breitbart who have taken it from the Bild, so take it as you will. Emphasis mine.

It'd be pretty hillarious in a black comedy sort of way if we started seeing Ukranians with forged Syrian documents trying to get into the EU.

At that point we'd need a sign on the border saying "You have to be this culturaly diverse to be granted asylum" and then some images of cultural diversity :V

Nothing would shock me any more. I know of a few people who've done something similar in the UK to claim benefits.

War refugees from Ukraine have been denied asylum in Germany despite chunks of Ukraine being, effectively, an active war zone.
Denying Ukrainians is not racism so it is perfectly fine :D

To be more serious denying Ukrainians is absolutely right - unlike Syria, Ukrainians have no problem to move to a perfectly safe area of a country.
Sure, no one will pay free ~1000 euro per month per family here...

Still I am interested what EU will do if Russia will move further and there will be very real millions of Ukrainians fleeing the war.

I'm not sure on the refugee stuff but, as far as I know, being able to fear for your life in the future is considered a legitimate reason to flee a country. As is conscription which I think Ukraine has, right?

You have to think that, to get to Germany, Syrians have to go through a lot of safe countries, including ones outside the EU. So to deny Ukrainians who have a very legitimate reason to flee for their lives is hypocritical.

Hungary and South African Boer farmers are currently in talks to discuss moving Boer farmers to vacant farmland in Hungary.

Keep in mind that I'm pretty certain the New Observer is very right wing, and their viewpoints are not necessarily mine. It's just hard to find news like this except for obscure sites. Definitely interesting and a bit different.
