Two generation ago the mortal races descended deep within the earth. They fled flood, famine, and fire. A cataclym shook the world to its core, and toppled the world order. Chaos, fear, and panic overtook the entire world as its inhabitants were forced to flee deep into the caverns of the world. It is there that the mortal races scrounge to survive. Among the survivors are heros, peasants, and most importantly, politicians.

Deep is a political RPG that takes place in a fantasy setting deep beneath a ruined world. Each player represents a nation of survivors trying to eek out a living deep within the twisted bowels of a world torn asunder. Most of the world's races managed to get a decent number of members to safety, but some could not adapt or simply ran into too much misfortune to survive. As it is, it is not easy to survive. This game is about keeping your civilization alive through hell, high water, and an evil GM bent on (fairly) destroying your civilization.

OOC Thread: http://www.bay12forums.com/smf/index.php?topic=158318.msg7011195#msg7011195

The time for creation of a new world has finally arrived. The heavens are abuzz with energy as the 7 high gods set about their work. Strange beings from heaven, hell, and who knows where have found a way into your domain. They come seeking entrance into the physical world, through any means necessary.

The world itself is dank, empty, and unmolded. It is a particular bit of nothingness in a larger cosmic nothingness. Distant stars twinkle, uninterested in the fate of this particular region of void. This is where you will set about your work. You have each formed your own race of mortals to place upon the world, yet as of now there is no world to place them upon. This is the first step on the long path that is creation.

However, even now the creatures of the multitudes seek to influence you. Whether that influence is worthy, warranted, or well intended is impossible to say. The system for requests is simple and understood by all. Major requests can be made to the council of gods as a whole, whereas specific or minor requests may be made in private to a particular god.

The first of many is a race of stone golems: We are earth, alive and awoken. We come to dwell within new land. We make offer to the gods a new region of mountains and rock in exchange for entry. Will any god among you take our request? The golems are a hardy and slow race, with little needs and wants. However, like many natural races, they are protective of the wilds of the world. Some may call them, territorial. To transpose the race into the world would require about 8 points.

The second request is made by a monster. It cannot speak nor communicate, but its gist is clear. It is a giant creature which resembles a cross between an angler fish and an octopus. It is dark and hungry. A predator and unfit for a fledgling world. However, it offers a global ocean. This amount of seawater would take a long time to create and would require much effort on the part of the gods. To release this beast upon the world would cost 14 points and thus require multiple gods to achieve.

A third request comes from an angel. I am Ryalliph an angel of truth. I seek entrance into the world so that I may guide a race in the pursuit of truth. I have nothing to offer to you except my guidance to a race of your choosing. To bring Ryalliph into the world would cost 7 points. If multiple gods wish to enlist him, they will each need to make a case for as why he should align himself with you.

A fourth request is made by a demi-god. I have in my possession a continent teeming with live and creatures. I would give it to you for free if you blessed it with a place in your new world. It is unlikely that all of the beings on it will survive the trip into the mortal plane, or even existence in that realm if they do make it, but perhaps some life may cling on and survive. At least three gods need to accept this gift in order for it to enter the world.

A final request is made by another demi-god. I am Jyll lord of slimes and oozes, queen of all that jiggles, and goddess of goo. I beseech you gods, allow me to seed this world with my beautiful slimy children. I will introduce several types of slimes and oozes into this world in three turns time, and in exchange, I offer a god as much as 10 influence points. However, if multiple gods seek my power, I will split those points between those who desire it.

This concludes the first round of requests to the council of gods. At this point in time specific requests to individual gods are unlikely as there is yet to even be a world. However, perhaps one or two may pop-up as actions are deliberated and discussed. At this point gods are free to discuss with eachother the requests at hand, their ideas for the world, and whatever else pleases them. In addition gods are now free to take action and begin constructing the world.

Map: (Turn 4)
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Before the beginning of time the gods have worked ever so diligently to bring new and interesting worlds. Now as the creation of a new world draws near, many divine beings have drawn near. While your power is great and your will mighty, their numbers are many and their strength may be beneficial. Many a magical being, mage, and monstrosity would rally behind you if you appease their demands. As a god, it is for you to decide what makes it into this world and what does not. Chose your pieces wisely for there are those who may seek dominion over your domain.

In this game players will each play one god of many. Each turn players will receive an allowance of divine energy which will allow them to influence the world. In addition, each turn other entities will make you offers of allegiance and power in the developing world. You may chose to use some of your energy to fulfill their request (and receive a reward) or you may devote your energy to bringing your own vision into the material world.

Like most god games there isn't really a victory scenario. The game is about finding your own goals, creation, and doing what you'd do if you were a god. Now that doesn't mean you can't try to destroy other god's work, because you chose your own goals, you can act however you desire.

Spoiler: Character Sheet (click to show/hide)

Each god will start with a single race of their own creation. You can choose to guide this race through the ages or let them flourish or falter on their own.
Spoiler: Race (click to show/hide)

Then there are the other powerful entities who will try to make their way into the physical world.

Spoiler: Other Major Entities (click to show/hide)

Spoiler:  Lesser Entities (click to show/hide)

All and all, this is a game about creating an interesting world. Several gods will play simultaneously and share one world. Each god's actions affecting the other god's. Some beings may be powerful enough to influence and enter the world without your consent, be wary and prepared to deal with those when need be.

109
At the beginning of time the Elder God crafted the world. He carved deep ravines, built towering snow-peaked mountains, and drew forth deep blue oceans. He then placed across this world many fantastic races of plants and animals, populating it with wonder and life. Magic, life, and people of all races spread across the many lands of this new world. Yet this was not enough for the Elder God. He created a multitude of dungeons filled with riches, magical artifacts, and the possibility of ascension to High God of this world. The battlefield was set, now all he needed was players...

Gods and Heroes is a game where several players play as gods and several other players play as dungoneers. These daring heroes will delve the world's dungeons looking for power, riches, and fame. Whats more, they will help their patron god in advancing their divine career. The game will take place in turns with gods and heroes having alternating turns.

Gods
Gods are divine beings with no permanent presence in the physical realm. Instead they work directly by guiding their chosen hero through dangerous dungeons. However, helping your own hero is by no means the only way to achieve victory, killing or weakening rival heroes works just as well. Each turn gods will be given a certain amount of Intervention Points. These can be used to help or hurt the mortals in various ways.
Spoiler: Character Sheet (click to show/hide)

Heroes
Heroes are mortal beings who are favored by the gods. Their role in the world is to complete dungeons and claim the powers and riches contained within them. However, their ultimate goal is to raise their god to ultimate power (and or becoming ruler of the whole world). Of course, your goal can be whatever you want, that just what happens when someone wins the game.
Spoiler: Character Sheet (click to show/hide)

That's the basics of the game. Right now this is just the interest check/ sign-up phase, but more information on the dungeons, stat systems, and all else will come later if there is interest in a game like this. Feel free to make suggestions and comments.

DF Modding / How to increase animalmen visitors?
« on: April 14, 2016, 05:20:36 pm »
Has anyone figured out how to increase the number of animal men that establish themselves in worldgen? I'm not sure the exact mechanism, but some appear as playable members of civilizations while others show up as "Intelligent wilderness creature." What I'd like to know is how to increase the number of animalmen (surface and subterranean) who show up in fortress mode as guests. Has anyone done any !!science!! on this?

As your home comet breaks apart some species are incinerated by the heat. Others are swathed in enough water and ice to make it through the atmosphere safely. Those lucky enough to survive find themselves plunged into a body of water incomprehensibly vaster than the one their species evolved in. Against the gloom of the seemingly endless ocean, a single sea mount rose nearly to the surface. There is where the space travelers landed, and it is there that they will either flourish or either under this new alien sun.

Aurous
Your species amoeba like form proved quite beneficial upon your descent towards the ocean. Your species once lived off of a type of bioluminescent coral-like creature that encrusted the edges of the comet. As such, you wee released into the air during entry and fell towards the ocean. If you had been multicellular, you'd have broken to bits. Now your species finds itself scattered on the sea mount summit and the middle mount. If any of your species survived, but fell deeper, it is likely they froze to death or starved in the gloom of the lower levels of the sea mount. Here at the top however the light is strong and will provide you with a decent food source. Yet it seems you aren't alone here on the mount, other, perhaps predatory species could be observed, however you lack the sensory organs to do so. This leaves you in a rather plantlike position, you have no need to move or see because you make your own food, but you also have no means of defense.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Frigida vita

Your species was one of the many creatures which survived not on specialization, but on opportunity. Tiny scavengers that you are, finding food was often difficult, and always varied. Your species is omnivorous and while it can eat just about anything, it doesn't gain as much energy as a creature with a more specialized digestive tract would. Fortunately that isn't a concern for you right now as a multitude of dead bodies is raining from the sky. One colony of your species survived because it had recently began devouring a type of sponge which lived deep within a rocky outcropping of your comet. This rocky chunk ultimately failed to break into pieces until it hit the ocean, where it then split into two. Many of your species was carried safely inside the rocky holes and down into the depths. Your species was delivered into sections of the middle mountain as well as onto the abyssal plain. This posses a distinct dilemma because a whole third of the sea mount lays between the two groups of your species and given your size, it would be difficult to reunite them. That aside, life is good. Corpses and creatures are abundant and thus food is in no short supply.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Proemium sensitiva

Like so many other species of the comet, you are unicellular. Complexity was ultimately unnecessary, and otherwise energy expensive. Other creatures preyed upon your species as a means of food, yet they would almost never eat the entirety of one of your kind. Many creatures realized that if they only bit off half, your species would regrow. A nifty trick to say the least. As your species fell into the ocean, they hardly scattered. Their amoeba bodies could resist the shock and splash of the plunge unto the new ocean and many found themselves upon the middle mount. Almost immediately food was abound as corpses and creatures floated down into the depths. Blind and mindless the Proemium wandered, devouring food if they came in contact with it. However without sensory organs, it is impossible to determine what you are eating or to perceive dangers around you.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Tepqabax
Your species enjoyed an almost complete monopoly on the warmest section of the comet. The hot water of the single volcanic region was inhospitable to most other creatures. Yet there were a few species that managed to survive there, and composed a rather stable food source. Now however, that time is over. Your species now finds itself without the warmth of the comet. Yet the water is not as icy as that of the rest of the comet. Your eye spots reveal there is light above, warming this section of the water. It's not ideal, but you won't freeze either. More interestingly than that, food can be found here. It seems to be everywhere, and many of your species has already snatched a bit of slightly singed sinking debris.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Kriblix
Your species unique biology has always made it a hardy survivor. Food isn't too hard to find when you eat rocks. And now, rocks are everywhere. However, they are lacking in energy and s a result your species is particularly slow to reproduce. Many of your species was hidden inside their dinner as the comet plunged into the ocean, and as a result, ended up quite deep. Your species landed throughout the lower section of the sea mountain. There rocky cliffs and ridges protrude from the mountain and are uncovered by sand, unlike the abyssal plain bellow.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Geni
Your species has been one of the active carnivorous species that inhabited the comet. Finding prey and ripping it apart is just how the Geni hunt. Now however your species has been tossed into a rather precarious predicament. As a new arrival on this world, and the water being flooded with comet debris and dead or dying creatures, it is not easy to find live food. While eating something that is already dead may not harm you too much, as time goes on you'll have to hunt for food. Your species finds itself on the summit as well as the abyssal plains.

For generations your species has survived, hidden deep within a comet hurtling through space. Your icy spaceship held within its core a micro-ecosystem that endured the long journey through space. In those cold waters several species evolved and survived for an untold amount of time. Yet now, that age has come to an end. Your species has arrived at its destiny, a planet. As your home enters the atmosphere it breaks apart and crashes into an alien ocean, spilling its contents into the strange unknown waters. Most of the species are released in the vicinity of a large sea mountain which extends from dark depths almost to the surface. What the future holds for your species, its impossible to say. But one thing is certain, only the strong will survive.

Evolution: This is a turn based evolution game. At the beginning of each turn each player will be given one evolution point (EP). These can be spent to manually evolve your creature. Small evolution may only take one point, but the more complex the evolution, the more it will cost. There will be a good deal of price checking at first, but as the game goes on we'll figure out about how much everything costs.

Genetic Drift/Random Mutation: At the end of each turn there is a chance that one or more members of your species may mutate without cost. This mutation can be beneficial or harmful. This will be determined by rolling done by me.

Events: This world is unknown and changing all the time, occasionally large events may effect your species and the area in which you live.

1. Does giving personality traits to animals have any effect?

1.5 What if it has INTELLIGENT and PET tags?

2. Is there a way to make a creature that is mostly immobile, but can move ever so occasionally?

3. Is there a way to set up plants to that when you harvest them from the wild they drop things instead of fruit/seeds?

4. Are there any other particularly interesting new tags in the last two versions (I've been away for a bit). If so, what are they?

During turns you may take one action. This action could be going on an expedition, breeding two dragons, competing in the arena, and any other action. Some actions, like hatching dragon eggs, may take multiple turns, but count as a passive action (ans you can therefore take a normal action while that happens in the background.)

January (Turn 1)

The winter cold holds a powerful grip over the land, but spring is on the horizon. During the winter several dragoneers have received their official dragoneering licences from the representative monarchy of Nova Crotia. As the winter winds wildly blows across the landscape four fresh dragoneer ranches are finishing up construction. While they may seem small, within these ranches are the seeds of greatness from which the greatest dragoneers the world has ever seen will emerge.

Welcome to the Nation of Alterra, a land that lives in the shadow of dragons. For centuries humanity lived in constant fear of the reptilian beasts. Villages were burned down. Livestock snatched from their pastures. Many a warrior slain and devoured by the winged beasts. Then great heroes and hunters rose up and drove the great dragons from the civilized mainland of Alterra, deep into the dark wilderness and the mystical out-lands. In the century since then Alterra has enjoyed peace and prosperity like it never could have imagined. Some of the lesser dragon species have even been partially domesticated by Dragoneers, dragon taming and breeding experts. This is their story, a story of dragons, adventure, and money.

In this game players play as a dragoneer, one of the most dangerous and lucrative professions of Alterra. Taming, breeding, and raising some of the most dangerous creatures in the world has its perks though, prestige and income among them. Yet many people take on this profession simply for the joy of discovering and taming strange and mysterious dragons from far off lands. Others get into the job because of their love of the Dragon Colosseum, an arena where dragons are pitted against each other in various fights and competitions. No matter your interests, dragon raising has something to offer you.

You have taken out a loan of 3000 coin to get your business of the ground. This money is yours to spend as you see fit and will propel you into the Dragoneer Hall of Fame. Someday at least.

This game takes place in turns with each turn being one month. Seasons change every four months and may affect the types of dragons encountered, as well as bringing about festivals and other special events.

You've finally done it! After months of waiting, you finally got the results from your dragon rancher certification test. You open the letter excitedly, and with good reason: you passed! Good thing too because you already put your life savings into that ranch you just bought. Would have been a real bummer if you had failed AND wasted your life savings chasing a ludicrous dream. But anyhow, here you are, first day on the ranch. Time to make your mark on the world as a dragon ranch entrepreneur!

How the game works:
Each player is the owner of a basic dragon ranch. They all get one basic dragon to start. They must take this rather mundane combination and become a dragon ranching business success.

The Ranch: This is where you keep your dragons. Its pretty basic. It has a stable which can hold 4 dragons. Its got a love nest for dragon breeding and its got an incubator for egg hatching. Basically it has everything you need to raise some dragons.

The Dragons: Each dragon will have stats associated with it that determine its capabilities, strengths, and weaknesses. Different types of dragons will obviously have different strengths and drawbacks. These stats are for the entire species of dragon and hold constant across the entire species.

The World: Once per turn players may go out into the world in search of treasure and new dragons. There will be areas that have different kinds of dragons and potential loot.

The Shop: The game is based upon having a successful business. There will be a shop where you can buy certain items and ranch upgrades.

That's basically the idea I have for the game. If there is interest in a game like this I will try to flesh out the details a little bit more. Feel free to give input or advice on the game and such.

Forum Games and Roleplaying / A Game of Gods (IC)
« on: January 31, 2016, 07:19:30 pm »
In the empty void near the mysterious planet six gods forge for themselves bodies so that they they may walk the world and use their divine power upon it. Upon the finalization of their creations the six godly avatars descend onto the unknown world. The six divine beings fall towards the world, the light of their power and descent draws the attention of all who can see them. This cosmic omen will mark the beginning of the Age of The Six Divines.

Cyrus
You land on the edge of a mountain range. To the west the high peaks obscure your vision of the horizon, yet a few caves and grottoes can be seen even from your position on the ground. They seem deep and dark.  To east hills eventually give way to rolling plains. All manner of mundane beasts have fled the area, scared and fearful of the falling avatar. You sense that there is a presence here, however you sense no living creature in the immediate area that could produce such an aura. It is definitely a being of power. Perhaps the crater caused by your descent has disturbed something beneath the ground.

Nix
You descend gracefully into the middle of a desert. Sand dunes stretch on in seemingly every direction. You are still getting accustomed to the sensation of having a physical body, but the endless yellow landscape is somewhat disheartening. Then, a gleam in the distance. It seems that there are some ruins to the west. On the east there seems to be an oasis, perhaps, or perhaps a mirage. Physical existence is fraught with these sort of strange perception anomalies. You notice, curiously, that there is a strange substance directly beneath you. It seems the heat caused by your landing created a large glass disk by melting and fusing the sand beneath you despite you never even touching it.

Writhing Refracted Spark In The Dark Of The Unwhole Heart
You fall rather hard and fast. Of the falling stars that are the Six, you perhaps descend the fastest and brightest. Perhaps a bit too fast and a bit too hard. You plunge almost completely unhindered through the crust of the earth. Only to find your self once again falling through empty space. You stop almost instantly and land lightly on the stone floor of the cavern. Above you tiny droplets of molten rock drip down from where you entered the cavern. You wonder if entered is even the right word for the hole you punched in the earth. Illuminated by the spotlight of sun light that pours in from above you can see this cavern has signs of life. There are small tracks in the mud near a stagnant pool and there are two tunnels that lead out of this cavern. Who knows what lay beyond those. You think that it would be a simple matter to ascend back out of the cavern, but realize that you do not have wings. But a little divine power would easily propel you back to the surface if you so desired.

Morius
Of the two death gods who have alighted upon this world, you are the one who has found a location that is truly suitable to your demeanor. You find yourself in a forest plagued by a strange blight. The plants and animals here seem to be dying slow and unpleasant deaths as the blight takes hold deep within them. Then once they die they blight they accumulated is eaten by scavengers or seeps into the ground, only to kill more and more people. There is smoke in the distance at the edge of the blighted forest. A fire perhaps? Perhaps civilization? To the north the forest thickens and the blight seems to poor out from its dark depths. Perhaps there is something foul afoot here in these woods?

Petnieka
Upon your descent you noticed a something very strange. An island floating on clouds in the sky. You would have stopped to explore it, but you had yet to figure out how to stop your descent. Gravity is a new and unfamiliar thing for you after all. You land, somewhat ungracefully, and ultimately destructively in a marsh. Trees are uprooted and blasted into the air in a circle around your landing site. The wet ground impacted and a craterlike lake is begining to form around you. The marsh is soggy and wet, yet strange lights can be seen to your south. The flicker slightly in the breeze. To your east there are some cliffs that may serve as a good vantage point, or at least, they're more solid ground.

Itheos the Lord of Order
Of all the gods, you descended the slowest and most meticulously. You fell straight down in an orderly manner. Your first action in this world will not be one of chaos. You find yourself on the edge of a frozen tundra. To the north ice and snow stretch far beyond the horizon. Outcroppings of rock and icy spires give hints that this wasteland is less than barren and desolate. To the south the snow covered landscape gives way to hills and and occasional small forests.  A small river of glacial melt water runs north to south here, if there is civilization nearby it would likely be close to this river, but the question is, which way? Alternatively, you can strike off to the west, there seem to some distant mountains which may offer shelter from the elements for fragile mortals.

You are a god, a being of immense divine potential and prowess. You and your fellow gods have just spontaneously manifested from the natural ebb and flow of the divine energy of the universe. You descend upon a world, primal and strange. It is here you will carry out your divine work, whether it is for good or for evil, here it shall come to pass. You are young, powerful, and ready to set about your godly agenda.

This game has three simple stats.
Essence: This is your life force. One essence can be turned into two Divinity. The only way to regenerate one essence is to "skip" a turn. No other action may be taken that turn.
Divinity: This is what you use to do divine acts. Natural disasters, creation, whatever, this is what allows you to do this. You get one per turn.
Religion: This comes from those who follow you. Using Religion you can influence the actions of mortals, making them your champion in the physical world.

Each god begins the game with an avatar. This is your physical representation in the world. It is bound by physical laws, but beyond that it serves as a proxy for your divine power. It is a physical being, and like all physical beings, can die.

This world is far from empty and already has many species, mortal races, and monsters inhabiting it. Discovering these and guiding your people through the challenges and opportunities they pose is part of the game.
