DF General Discussion / Site map colours.
« on: December 17, 2018, 04:54:24 am »
I have a requestion in regards to DF’s sitemaps, for Human towns specifically.
Spoiler: One such map (click to show/hide)
My quandry is that while the Wiki page explains which colour appears for which building, it only does so for six of the building types. What I would like to know is what the other colours mean. What do pink and yellow stand for if they have a white border? What about the black and brown buildings, or the brown and black ones? Or even the black and white one you can see to the left of the map shown above? I don’t know what any of it means, and I can’t find out right now on DF itself, so I’m now asking questions aboit it on the Forum.

Other Games / Skyrim/Elder scrolls political armchair thread.
« on: September 30, 2018, 04:06:37 pm »
The Nords are fighting a civil war over their tradition of worshiping a Breton who claimed he was an Imperial
We need a skyrim armchair general thread just for that argument.
Here you are.

For those who don’t know, in ES5: Skyrim, the Game world is divided into two factions, the Stormcloaks, and the Imperials. The Imperials have been in charge of Skyrim for a long time, and Skyrim has changed over time with the Imperial rule. Following a huge war with Elven Nazi Germany, the Empire is weak, so the Thalmor release a brainwashed double agent, Ulfric Stormcloak, to go and stir up some chaos. Only issue is, Ulfric really hates the Elves, so he goes completely rogue and possibly mental as well, and gathers up half the country in rebellion against the Imperials, who are weak and falling apart.

The last thing to note is that the traditions that the nords are fighting the Imperials to protect are Imperial traditions that the Nords have come to accept over time, and their patron god is actually neither a Nord or an Imperial, but is in fact a Breton from the most far flung country in the world. It’s complicated as to how he became a god, but he cheated. Meanwhile, the Imperials are kow-towing to the Elven Nazis who curbstomped them and want to get rid of the worship of the Nordic patron god for religious, world ending, and racist reasons.
It’s very complicated.

Somehow, I feel like I’m going to regret making this thread.

Door monster is a youtube channel that makes sketches. They've been doing it for a good few years now, and they're incredible at it. Despite that, however, not many people know that they exist. They need to. They do videos every week, and they manage to pull off a perfect punchline every single week. There are so many videos that they've started a self-aware time travel series that often involves fucking things up in previous videos.

Here's a sample of their work.

Here's their self-fulfilling idiocy series(The first one's quite old, but they increase in quality very quickly)

Here's their channel

If this thread lasts long enough, I'll probably change the OP.

SCP foundation, site B12, Discussion room.
The SCP foundation is a wiki based around writing and compiling Creepypastas and/or paranormal entities. I have been a fan of the site for a long time, and I am starting this thread so that others may find it, as it has prived to be an extremely interesting read, and so as to create discussion on some of the more confusing or debateable entries.

The SCP foundation homepage.

Other Games / Minecraft server: Civclassic: Dwarven Nation
« on: April 03, 2018, 03:07:09 pm »
There is a Minecraft server named Civclassic. In Civclassic, you play Minecraft as you normally would, using vanilla Minecraft, in the latest version, but, there are hundereds of plugins, all amounting to this: Civclassic is a server built around creating nations and cultures and civlizations. And I was wondering.
Could we make a Bay12 Dwarf - themed Civclassics nation?

The Bay12 Dwarven Nation
(Currently recruiting and eagerly accepting suggestions)

Anyone may jpin this, by typing in the IP adress of Civclassics and running the game (The ip is mc.civclassic.com). However, before you do that, let's plan this out.
[Warning: Politics ahead!]
At the top of the heap is the Low king, ruler of the nation, King of kings, Armok's chosen, etc. Etc. I will be undertaking this role until the nation's infarstructure is set up, and once the capital is at least partially complete. However, once I step down, there will be an election for the next High king. He will get  the rest of the month in office, as well as the next month, but after that, therw will be a new election. Each month, the current Low King must step down and a new must take his place. If someone goes a second time, he will be known for his second term as Urist II, and if he has a third, Urist III, and so on and so forth. Below him are then seven Chieftains or kings or whatever they get named. These will be the Kings of Seven "Folk", with the Royal city seperately administrated. The Kings/Chieftains have full rulership over their Folks, and serve the exact same term as the Low king, each month being re-elected. They must all swear loyalty to the Low king, and the Low king can overrule any decision they make.
Any Dorf has a vote. One vote. One for the Low king, and one for the Chief of their Folk. Any Dorf may put themself up for office. Each Dorf will chose a Folk to join, although they can live anywhere within the nation. They may change their folk by asking the Chief of the different folk. They do not need permission to leave.

There will be a strict Building code: Build Dorven stuff!
That's about it. If it's sufficiently Dorfy, go ahead.

One fort for each Clan, and another being the capital.

Any Dorf may join the army.

I think you get the idea, so I'll stop. Please mention below if you wish to join, and if you want to name a Folk and become it's first ruler, go ahead.

Please say anything you wish to say below: I would also like to spask, if we get enough peopel, should we mention this on the Bay12 discord?

I'm tired, so I'll stop now and organiza this more in the morning.
And remember : BLOOD FOR THE BLOOD GOD

So, here's the plan.
This is going to be a lightly turn based game, where each player is the ruler of a fief of a large kingdom. The king/queen is controlled by the game master (me), and each year, events happen. Some will be public, others will be sent via Personal message. All responses to events must be put forward via PM, and all roleplaying should be done in the main section. All public events answered will be made public, and all private events will be once again, shown via a PM, unless something goes horribly wrong. If a lot of events start happening, the turns will slow down to accomidate for it. When a Lord dies, the next in line for the throne (Which is hereditary, of course) will take the throne, and you may continue. Any lands invaded will be given to players awaiting a turn, and new dynasties runing in the stead of once old ones that have died out will also be handed to new players.
Each player has full control over what is done each turn, and this may be successful, or upit may not, depending on a lot of factors, including the strength of one's army, the resources in one's coffers, the mood of the peoples, the roll of some dice, and even the local culture, which may come to affect a lot.
Each player may sign up using a sheet below.

Name of ruler: (Please do not use modern names)
Dynasty name: (Be sensibly with this one)
Region name: (Try to make it symbolic)
Region culture: (Please be brief)
Regional geography (Try not to add too much in, I will do a bit of editing in this sector)

Once we have enough players, the first thing to be done will that a Kingdom name will be chosen.
Let the squabbling begin.

Forum Games and Roleplaying / Three Kingdoms: Marga Guard's guild
« on: February 15, 2018, 04:27:24 pm »
This is the thread for all matters pertaining to the Guard guild in the Three kingdoms game, specifically in the  City Town Village Township of Marga, being the Irish word 'Mairge' (Pronounced Marga), meaning Market.

Main thread

It is up to the Guard's guild to patrol the town, map the surrounding areas, establish basic street laws, map the township itself, decide how the day/night cycle will work, and, (Most importantly) Patrol the city streets to guard the Township from crime and... Crime. Mostly crime.
I shall be drawing a basic map in the future of the town + surrounding areas, and any member of the Guard's guild is free to make anupy suggestions, all of which I shall try to take into account, unless they're... Not good.
Until there are more than 3 people in this guild, including me, I'm taking temporary ownership of the guild so as to organize the whole shebang.
Anyone wishing to join may do so below.
Anyone?
Please?

Forum Games and Roleplaying / Issue a challenge to the poster below you.
« on: February 02, 2018, 04:14:59 am »
This is a game.
You issue a challenge, something like "Destroy the white house", "Form the USSA", or "Kill the queen of England". Then, the poster below you has to say how it would go about destroying the white house, forming the USSA, or killing the queen of England, not in that order. I shall begin.

I Challenge You to form the United Socialist States of America.

DF Community Games & Stories / The boatmurdered saves
« on: January 19, 2018, 04:00:04 am »
I was having a look around, reading the Boatmurdered LP, when I found a link to the first thread. So, I went over to TheimmortalRyukan, who happens to be a member, and asked him to try and find the link, and, Whaddya know! The only issue is that the link is dead. I would like to appeal to all those watching, could someone, anyone, find a way to revive the link? I don't even know if that's possible, but I think we should try.

If this could work, the DF board will be host to a contest. Whoever can take a save of Boatmurdered and lead it to glory will be crowned the unofficial King of Dorfs. Your fortress may need you, but it also needs a voodoo practitioner.

Forum Games and Roleplaying / Interest check: Magical Mythical Town game
« on: January 17, 2018, 06:31:05 am »
I amn't good at keeping up forum games, partially because I have little time, and partially because despite asking many times, people don't generally poke me when I don't post. POOOKE MEEEEE.
Anyway, that isn't the point. What the point is is that I am windering if people would be interested in a roleplaying - based forum game set somewhere in Ireland. The story would be that the nearby forests and mountains are filled with weird things from Irish folklore, and that weirdness has spilled into said town/village, and these people, some ancient, some young, some supernatural, opsome perfectly prdinary, all have to live with this. The gameplay mechanics would be partially dice based, with a bit of skill involved. You would say where to hit, and I might add things or change things depending on what you did. Magic would be included, obviously.
It's an idea I've been thinking about for a while, but unfortunately, I still don't have much time, so I'm putting out this interest check while I try to get things together. Feedback and suggestions are requested.

General Discussion / The future of the Bay12 forums
« on: January 10, 2018, 02:35:14 pm »
I 'v been scared to say this for a while now, for fear of backlash or something, but I might as well state it peoperly now. We need to face something. The forum is dying. The post count has halved since last year, and it doesn't seem to be stopping. I love these forums. I love to watch the sociopaths and mad scientists of the world discussing unicorn farms over a game of dwarf fortress, but I don't want to see it dry up. I'm making this thread to discuss it, since it hasn't been a proper topic recently. I hope I don't need to lock this thread. Let the games begin.

DF Suggestions / Non civ based organizations and entity goals.
« on: January 08, 2018, 11:40:17 am »
My idea for this is that during worldgen a bunch of people could get together and form some kind of organization, such as a knightly order, a guild of masons, a religious sect, or a gathering of necromancers. Essentially, some random person would gain a goal in life, like a desire to heal the wounded, a desire to kill all goblins, ir a desire to teach the true faith. After a while, these people could form an organization, with it's own name, symbol, and titles. Then, people with similar goals to the organization's goals would join said organization. These organizations could be tied to a civ, or be wide reaching, and they would have a headquarters in the site where it was founded. If it became big enough, they could even build headquarters in other sites.
If they felt that the heathen religion was becoming too big, a religious organization could declare a crusade on their enimies, or start an expedition to somewhere, lead an invasion, or start diplomacy. In adventurer mode, you could join one of these and become leader of the organization, and in fortress mode, you could get these organizations to come and visit your fort.
There is also one intersting thing about this, which is that instead of tying gods to a specific civ, civs could start out with no specific religion, and holy groups could start up around pre existing gods, and sites could become tied to specific religions, and civs could start wars over it, etc.

It's an idea.
