DF Gameplay Questions / Lava (Above Ground) Doesn't Transfer Heat?

The below image shows heat transfer working properly underground with magma, but not working above ground with lava. I know the image shows a constructed vs natural wall but I also checked it with an underground constructed wall of identical material. The issue can also be replicated with the tiles directly above and below, both under and above ground.
