DF Modding / Re: [MODDING] CREATURE & ENTITY QUESTIONS THREAD
« on: April 17, 2016, 01:33:34 pm »
I myself are trying to pinpoint how to get 'deep clear voice' tag for my Ischrotaurs every time along with the 'broad' body tag. I've tried a few tricks over the course of few weeks and so far I've found out that without the BODY_APPEARANCE_MODIFIER:LENGTH the 'gigantic' tag disappeared completely. The wiki seriously should have more in-depth info about the numbers and what they do.

AFAIK everything heals just by fast travel, except nerves, nails and I think toes and fingers as well - I atleast still had a smashed up toe even after fast travelling (though it could have been referring to the nail - no idea).

In one instance I just had a nail smashed open but it healed as I have this thing enabled for all the humanoid body parts: [HEALING_RATE:custom default number]
Plus I have all the sinew and everything else's healing rates at 1 in my Ischrotaur raw with this line:

Code: [Select]
[SELECT_TISSUE_LAYER:ALL]
[TL_HEALING_RATE:1]

But once a bone needs setting.. it needs setting and its pretty much the same deal with scars, once it's there, it's there. >.<

Anyhow, yeah. Still feel kinda crap about not being able to enjoy the games as everyone else are. I do enjoy reading it when someone else's character has some mayhem going on but gets killed in the end like that Fel Orc of yours, ZM5. The one who lost his head, literally.
And yet when I try something similar.. it just doesn't work out for me at all, it's the exact same deal I have had with games that are competitive like 'Starsiege: Tribes' (about 8-10 years ago) where you keep dying ad nauseum except in DF I'll have to create a new character from scratch everytime previous one dies and I'm not good with that at all because I like to put a lot of thought and thinking into a single character for the rest of the game, reason why I have like 6 incarnations of Dhorna by now due to modding and creature preference changes.

Crawling tile by tile, Ud soon found some webs and dead elves.

"Dead elves, hit them with dead elves!" - someone's quote in someone's sig whose both names don't come to my mind right now (terribly sorry).

I slew him as well, but left with crippling wounds. Not liking how this would affect future fights, I retired back to my meadhall.
I do that as well, or just let my adventurer die stupidly in one way or another - I don't want nerves to heal but at the same time it gets annoying when you "win" a fight but are left permanently crippled.

Generated a third world so I think everything should be fine with my mods now, gonna start adventuring later though.

A few tests of mine both in arena and in previous adventure modes resulted in a massive disappointment for me once a giant or a demon managed to injure nerves along with fractured bones in such a way that they still needed setting even though the heal rate is enable for it all and is quite fast for my modded creature (waiting for one ingame hour usually fixes everything), I ain't got time to find or make this 'setting' as when I first started playing DF as a dingo woman and got injured like that, I searched the wiki about how to fix my adventurer and found none except fort mode stuff (I'm not in fort mode, damnit!). Point is I can't risk having some colossal being or whatever hurt my adventurer in such a way that I can't even recover him/her from damages, I seriously hope that in the future I can make my custom creature basically the Wolverine as I'd like my adventurers be damageable but recover instantly.

For the time being all of my main modded creatures will just have to have ridiculous amounts of numbers to be invincible as to avoid things like ability to grasp or stand or scars on skin (if ye know anything about the Wolverine, you'd know that he never has scars and everything heals: nerves, teeth, eyes, you name it.. it usually heals rapidly).
Plus save-scumming can get very tedious as was the case with Drog the kobolth Battle-Lord trying to take down Gakit the Death of Menace a cerulean-noseless-fox-monster aka demon/clown.
Took me like 6+ hours to kill the damn thing due to getting killed and having to micromanage save folders or end-task the game, bleagh. X_X

Sorry for the rant. Eh, just taking a bit of a break from playing/modding/DFhacking DF. That Drog's playthrough was important for me to realize that the way I've been playing games with being invincible and powerful and all that is truly the right course of action for me on a personal mental level. Can't stretch it enough how pissed off I was about not being able to take the beast down and getting either strangled or otherwise horrible injured or killed, or injured and then bled to death while in my mind I was about to blow a 666 megaton nuclear doomsday bomb and when I finally did kill the giant monstrosity all I felt all day was keep berating the demon to no end in my mind. Hence why as later on as a previous Dhorna who killed that 'Spen' black-brute-lizard I intentionally gave it berating nicknames and custs/professions and I shall be doing that from now on to every demon in the dark fort to satisfy my hate and rage and frustration.

IIRC, recently when I tore off some kobold's limb with biting, I spit/threw it back at the kobold and it fractured a bone in its body. Didn't pay much attention due to being sort of tired but yeah.. woah.
Talk about insult to injury.

I'll share the raws whenever I get done with this-

I definitely enjoyed the spacegoat starting zones, even though I was mostly a horde player (undead master race). I don't play WoW anymore but I still play WC3 from time to time and I still enjoy the lore and creature designs, though.

Aye, no rush. There's that another thing that I strongly dislike and that's the feeling of being rushed.

Was like almost 9 years ago when I played WoW on a private server as an Orc. Later on about 5-6 years ago I used a repack to try it offline as a Draenei and a few other races only to discover how shallow the MMORPGs really are but I still liked the lore and the feel of things too in WoW and that Draenei idea and place of peace will always have that special place in my heart and if I can meaningfully experience it in DF again this time around, then... I'm at a loss of words at this point: speechless.

Ugh, just realized, I'm talking like I'm trying to rush you. No, that's not the case nor the intention as right now it'll be a while before I regen the DF world of mine, provided I won't run into anything gamebreaking/crashes. Nah Just went down the memory lane again and remembered a tidbit I loved.

To stay on topic: Good grief have I got plenty of nearby areas to travel to. There are a few more kobold/bandit camps, shrines, lairs, caves and what not nearby or somewhere far off. It sure paid off to squeeze that lady out of location direction info (that.. sounded wrong). Gotta pick a place that has something I haven't killed yet which means: Titan, Roc or Griffin hunting plus there's a nearby town with a criminal problem which I've never solved yet either. Also I left the last kobold's head unbutchered, the one I one-hit KO'd with drolth sword and put it in the backpack as a sign of proof, forgot to mention it.

EDIT: Oh ho ho ho, I think I fixed it, atleast I genned a world with all 3 new races.

Great! :o

EDIT: Orrr not...trying to gen a world with the demons completely gone from the raws still resulted in a crash, so it's not them. Crap.

Biggest downside of modding is not having a crashlog or something to figure out worldgen crashes.

Oh shite, I feel ye mate. I've had similar scenarios happen with other games that have had too many mods installed, at least those had indeed crash logs. What I'd do is go carefully over the raws and recent changes in them and then weed it out one probable issue at the time. Main reason why I try to take baby steps when modding something in DF with careful planning and contemplation as much as I am able to due to my natural defective ability to rush things way too much.

One thing I'm sure of is that one or two change in one of the raws of yours is causing the crash. I wager something is missing or a function misunderstood and in a wrong place or both. :-\ Like this for example:

Symmetry helps, just to be sure:

On a side note, looking forward to your stories as either a male or female blue-skinned spacegoat. Would actually love to have them in my DF worlds too as a civ as years back when I tried WoW, I felt peaceful harmony in their starting area. Could just sit down, listen to the atmosphere and music and almost daydream I was playing a singleplayer version of the game where I could have mature romantic interactions with spacegoat women.

Hey, I have the latest version of DF-

Uh, sorry to be that guy but basically this:

Latest version (v.0.42.06, latest dfhack version) and all that.
It's probably not relevant in this case, but please, please, specify the exact DFHack version you're using. It's displayed in the upper-left corner of the title screen and logged to the DFHack console when the game starts. I know you think you're using the latest DFHack version (which is currently 0.42.06-beta1, released 3 days ago), but people sometimes don't notice releases, especially pre-releases, so it's impossible for us to know for sure if that's what you're using.

Retired the Mafol character and genned a new world. Having titles of nobility like broker and later lord aren't for my characters. That was always there in the background.

Aye, neither for mine. The only nobility I want my characters to to be known for is my custom titles such as Dhorna's current title of 'Hel-Brutess' or in case of Drog the kobolth: 'Battle-Lord' (The name/rank of a boss alien from Duke Nukem 3D). Y'know? A warrior title demanding the utmost respect.

Anyhow since I got rid of the worshipped entity through dfhack sorcery I calmed down in more ways than one to my surprise. Created/spawned gloves and gauntlets and mittens, made them mastercraft quality and discovered that my adventurer's name was on them as in "created by Dhorna (long name)", awesome. I went the role-play route and no humie npcs got hurt, stated Dhorna's values to some more soldiers around and in the fort, a few priests and two traders who I sold stuff I didn't need but no way am I gonna sell them any of my ischronite chunks! In the future they can have those adamantine mallets I accidently crafted instead of daggers.

After all that and after establishing 'The Heliotrope Order of Peace' for the future endeavors in the fort. I ran to a kobold camp which was basically almost next door to the east near the fort so I didn't have to use travel map at all, just a few squares of map to traverse in sprint mode. Killed about 4-5 kobolds there IIRC, only the last one (fleeing kobold wrestler) got its head hacked/sliced off with the drolth sword and the rest got killed in various unarmed ways from kicks and punches to bites and gores (ouch!). After the bandit camp raid I collected their mangled bodies and severed limbs caused by biting and dropped them all on one tile nearby and butchered them and then collected their skulls and clothes and lit the rest of the remains on fire. Funny thing is only their bones burned to ash and not their squishy bits.

No no, in your df.global.world.history.figures[your adventurer] there is a flags entry which has deity under it, and if you worshipped a deity you would find it under the histfig_links as a histfig_hf_link_deityst entry... unless maybe it's a force or something, I never checked.

Oih, of course. Yeah that did the trick and indeed when being a deity inquiring about troubles you can't ask about the specifics. A big silver lining here is that I made the object of worship's race into that of an ischrotaur and changed its name and gender to male and turns out I can indeed remove the object of worship which is awesome. I checked it in legends by retiring and no more worshipped entity. Progress! And.. thank you! :)

Anyway, while I was messing with the gm-editor and took a look at my crafted modded-in 'drolth' sword. The age old thing for me now: how do I give a custom name to an item?

There's not a histfig_hf_link_deityst entry?

Ok, can you pray to anyone when starting a conversation? That's actually the shortcut to becoming a god I used, flip the deity flag under your df.global.history.figures entry then talk to someone and you can get them to worship you, editing your conversation targets via df.global.ui_adv_mode.conversation.targets to make the histfig_id your own lets you address yourself as a deity.

Uhh, I can't find the deity flag to tag in my adventurer's menu and haven't even found histfig_hf_link_deityst anywhere.

df.global.world.history.figures[1]

Ahh, the number at the end defines the entity but still no luck with pinpointing the deity. Nor getting dance forms to my character forcibly.

Problem with historical figures is that none of them are deities. Let me elaborate: in legends.xml Kupek Outragebored appears as entity id 1161 but typing df.global.world.history.figures[1161] brings up a human: Thrut.

EDIT: Nevermind df.global.world.history.figures[1162] and I got kupek. Whew. Lucky that there is no mortal with that name (I checked). The 'legends_plus.xml' has no deities in it. Also, good grief 5+ hours on this madness of mine alone (including ways to get dance forms), FML. *drops flat on his back*

EDIT2:

histfig_links I think and it should have entries for worships_deityst

It's empty.. nothing to select at all.

Yeah I'm using DFHack 0.42.06-beta1. Sorry, completely forgot mentioning it due to being overwhelmed with my own issues. Ugh.

Here's the issue as I'm too lazy to type it:

Hmm, what about dance forms?

EDIT: can't open "gui/gm-editor df.global.history.figures" as I'm met with error about something to do with expressions everytime.

EDIT2: I did how ever got the list of this open "gui/gm-editor df.global.world.dance_forms.all". I wonder how am I gonna give meself a dance form?

Interesting, also I like those spacegoats myself too and at least in DF those blue-skinned spacegoat women can be incredibly muscular and equal to men.

Currently I'm overly bummed over the fact that the civ I spawned in doesn't have dance forms and I'm exhausted from having to deal with not killing nearby NPCs, so things kinda get real simple: If Dhorna can't make her own dance forms or get new dance forms (they must not be about war) then she will do a dance form she can do and that's called combat, she will perform by doing killing.

Wasted like three hours re-creating her and finding her a place to spawn in and then crafting all of the equipment only to find: NO DANCE FORMS! Fuck!! >.< Plus the civ is comfortable telling lies, being war-like and stubborn and pretty much majority of stuff Dhorna values.. they don't. Dhorna worships nobody, be damned what game thinks!

Ugh, I just don't know how to continue, one part of me wants to slaughter them but the role-play part wants to move on.

Gotta love how freaked out the Undertale community got in contrast to the DF fans. For them, when someone goes and tries to wipe out civilization as we know it, it's terrifying. For us, it's inevitable.
Heh heh, your post reminded of those "Difference between X and Y" images, so I just had to whip one up real quick in relation to this thread.

Yeah I know, it's crappy, but to my defense I'm only a dabbling meme magician and merely a dubious worshipper of Kek.

Theheh! Am still reading through the massacre story and am somewhere at the middle now. My fantasy genocidal tendencies started long before I knew of DF, started with the introduction of the all-mighty dreadnought in the original 'Dawn of War' RTS game as it exhibited the pinnacle of dread and death, might and strength, rage and hate.

Anyhow I'm feeling that this theme IMO fits the story a bit: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E4wnTaDYIgs "Imagine, if you could just.. kill everyone." - Bill Williamson
