Have they dealt with their atrocious slowdowns yet? I'm on a slow connection right now, and I know how big the mod is, so I want to be sure before I get it again.

It's just, damn. A couple of years back, turns would take me three to five minutes before I was even half way into the game.

Not entirely sure why... but I was expecting a surprise Johnny Rebel there.

Spoiler: Dear Everyone (click to show/hide)

Ahoy, thread. I thought I'd poke in here with this instead of making its own thread, since we still have games left. I got a steam key each for Bionic Dues and Skyward Collapse Complete from the AI War 2 KS and I already have both. Anyone want either?

Skyward Collapse, please!

Darkness creeps across the land
The midnight sausage is in your hand
A pain in the stomach, boiling blood
Stool sprays free, like flowing mud

DF Adventure Mode Discussion / Re: Is adventure mode broken?
« on: January 05, 2017, 04:48:55 am »
That hasn't been happening for me since the latest version. Killing one man in a camp results in everyone attacking me, if they see.

I agree with you, though. Adventure mode has lost a lot of its danger and well, adventure, due to the new, less aggressive AI and de-gameification of it all.

General Discussion / Re: what tv shows are you currently watching?
« on: January 04, 2017, 02:40:06 pm »
I've kind of gone off of TV shows completely.

I watched Breaking Bad and Metalocalypse, and they both eventually stopped. I watched Game of Thrones and got bored when it shifted from soft fantasy, political intrigue, and planning to "WOOOHOOOAAAH DRAGONS!". I watched Dexter to the end, despite its massive fluctuations in quality, and so on. Now I have nothing to watch  :'(

Bad AI and heartstring pull attempts?

I suppose the main problem is Logistics, Structure and most importantly Speed. I mean, with collectives in weapon manufacturing voting, with collectives in the government voting in every area and with collectives in the army, there is a lot of voting going on...voting takes time.
On top of that in a State of Total War, Germany simply told workers to work 16 hours a day so that enough equipment could be produced (potentially with various forms of repression), but wouldn't that prove problematc in a Syndicalist State when the local tank syndicates decide that no, they are not going to work 16 hours a day just to squeeze out one more tank a day?
And then there would be problems along the lines of "Lets vote out Rommel, he is an effective general but hes a dick, lets put Jack from the shoe factory in charge because hes a swelll dude".
The main issue is placing people in positions of authority. Where does their authority derive from and how do they exercise it without defeating the point of opposing authority

As I understand it the people in authority would get it from the people they command rather than from the people above them. Decisions about who should be in charge would be made at the bottom up through tiers of delegation based on elections rather than down from above based on promotion based delegation.

So a unit would pick a leader from among them, then that leader would work with other unit leaders to pick a leader for them, and so on up the tiers of command, so the command staff would all be elected directly or indirectly by those they command rather than the lower commanders having been appointed by the higher ones.

If I'm not mistaken, this is pretty much the go-to answer for any questions pertaining to most forms of anarchism.

So here I am three - I guess four- years later playing it again. Helluva long hiatus. Awesome game, still, and Adventure mode seems a lot more fleshed out (people have other things to say beside "It was inevitable" now!) ...
Holy carp, has it really been that long since "it was inevitable" was added!?

It is terrifying.

I'm surprised that Reelya neglected to expand onindustrial unionism, the concept that all Syndicalists run on, regardless of their other beliefs. Syndicalists (IF I RECALL CORRECTLY) more on the anarchist side tend to support it as a means of cooperation between syndicates and collectives, whereas the more state-oriented socialists support it as a replacement of liberal democracy, having a union structured of representatives directly elected from the workers of affiliated industries.

I think you should probably read up on the literature of those affiliated if you want to know more for yourself and more about the differences within the movement, but I'm afraid I can't recommend much, as it's not something I delve into very often. The only title I can remember off the top of my head is 'On Anarcho-Syndicalism' by Rudolf Rocker. I also am not a syndicalist, or even very socialistic for that matter, so I'm probably not the best person to be commenting on this.

As for Kaiserreich, I am pretty sure the French military is meant to be central government conscripts and militias formed by political radicals. Play Darkest Hour's version of Kaiserreich for a better explanation of pretty much everything in the mod.

Sorelians are also very interesting, and I can't summarize much of it. Georges Sorel had some influences on Fascism, if I'm not mistaken. Reflections on Violence influenced, one way or another, the philosphy of both sides of the spectrum.
