DF General Discussion / Re: Future of the Fortress

Are false plots a possibility? For instance, a king's agent instigating a false assassination plot against him to draw out and execute traitors.

Just kick something really hard, should do the trick
You know how a lot of electronics, like routers, have a small hole that has a hard reset button inside? It's too small to touch with your fingers, so you have to use something like a toothpick to reset it.

What I'm saying is you should first put a toothpick underneath your big toenail, THEN kick something really hard for optimal resetting.

It's nothing to do with liberal bias. Seems more like corporate shilling and/or band-wagon jumping. General schism between fans and professional critics. EDIT: the most common suspicion isn't that this stuff is due to some liberalism thing, it's that it often involves these outlets shilling Disney-owned properties (Disney buys a lot of ads).
That sounds like something a libtard would want you to think.

You're not really discussing, more going "You're wrong, here's why" "no you're wrong, here's why" "but you're still wrong because" "ah but you're also wrong because"
I'm pretty sure that's what discussions ARE, or at least ones aimed at changing someone else's opinion
If don’t think either person in this instance was going to change their stance, regardless what the other said.
I think you're wrong. Here's why:

Adventure mode's loss of gameification and many half finished features make it feel a little dead to me in comparison to prior releases. Usually, I will go out and do something memorable and fun, then a kink in the system stops me dead in my tracks. I'll go out and destroy a massive underground bandit camp, then I won't be able to recruit an army like I planned because the conversation system broke and I can't mention killing any of them, or any of them in general.

There's still plenty to do. I like to do heroic deeds to build up my reputation, and then build up an army of the best soldiers from all the civilizations, to act as the protector of my home in war. But don't be discouraged if a problem stops you from doing this when you should be able to, just keep going 'till you can.

I just realized how good a time 2010 to 2013 was for starting indie devs and roguelikes. Rogue Survivor, Ace of Spades, Ultima Ratio Regum, and Cataclysm were created, DF finally exited 40d, Spelunky reached the mainstream, Rise of the Triad's remake was released and Shadow Warrior's remake began development.

Coming to think of it, I haven't really seen any popular new, creative roguelikes since at least 2015, and basically no other free, independent niche game that I know of has rivaled Ace of Spades since its height. I wonder what happened?

General Discussion / Re: Which game makes you feel most like a wizard?
« on: February 18, 2019, 11:36:50 pm »
It's not strictly making you feel like a wizard, but Dominions 4 and 5 have a great magic system with a lot of strategic depth. The only game which really gave me the feeling of being a powerful wizard lurking in wait to design more spells is Daggerfall, which you've almost certainly played.

GoG is the only alternative to Steam I accept. The only problem I've had with them was a refund request which was protracted beyond the cutoff date for refunds, but their refund policy is far better than Steam's.

Forum Games and Roleplaying / Post Dictator
« on: February 17, 2019, 10:37:41 pm »
Post dictator is a forum game in which each user defines a single rule that all subsequent posters must follow, or may choose to forfeit their turn by revoking the last rule. For example:

Nobody can use the letter 'A'
V
Every post hs to be bolded
V
lwys strt your post with some song lyrics
V
I revoke the bove rule

The rules reset when posts can clearly no longer be read in English.

RULE 1: Each post should have a colour tag

On-topic: this gingivitis business really sucks. Sucks most of the fun out of drunken make-out sessions, that is. Nerve-wracking stuff.
Hopefully I can improve it before too long.
Mike Mahan has gingivitis

I'd like another storefront if it didn't just act as another set of DRM to deal with before you play your game, another point of failure for your passwords, and another waste of hard drive space without providing an advantage over Steam. Or in many cases, being outright worse.

I can't play my original copy of Far Cry 3 anymore because my account was hacked and I no longer have access to it. I can't change my password on Origin because my email is dead, and you need a response email to change it. I have never had any of these problems on Steam. These aren't alternatives so much as they are greedy bastards trying to grab a bigger piece of the pie while providing an inferior service.
