I'm not so cruel as much as I am neglectful, but for outright cruelty... I guess sending my brokers off to get impaled and die whenever they decide they can't spare one minute to trade, no, they just HAVE to have a meal when they're not hungry and then sleep forever.

Unfortunately I think ice just acts like any other rock when that happens and will just create a giant ice pillar one cube at a time. An ice pillar full of the corpses of your enemies on display, however, which may be an appealing alternative.

Well, those details make this insistence of hers make a lot more sense, at least the personality ones. Sounds like a fun individual all told.

Okay, that one needs a serious answer.
Honestly, I'm not completely sure, but it seems to be a pathing issue because I've found everything from ducks to cows up in trees whenever they're on the surface. It doesn't seem to be exclusively combat-triggered, as essentially anything that's on your side can end up in a tree, but there's a chance it's related; I've found that my surface-training soldiers have been ending up in trees a lot more ever since they've started to spar.

Though the distance at which they were found tells me this pathing issue might be a lot more screwy than just jumping into trees. I've found animals pastured near the center of my map up in trees right in the corner, too, so it might be something else entirely. Either way, the cause isn't certain so far, and your options are chopping the trees down, making a connective network between trees so they can get back down, or just leave them to starve for their idiocy.

Because the gods are narcissistic jerks and start yanking clowns into the surface if they aren't constantly worshipped.

Why is my scholar dedicated to writing autobiographies when he should be writing about stuff that's actually important?

I understand Gorlaks are smart enough to have bards and others, so I imagine the dwarves know that as well and are a little overzealous in burying things, due to the ghost problem.

I hadn't heard of it, but I understand the goblins have gotten a lot nastier lately, at least in worldgen. 's what happens when you create something with decent stats that's ageless and cannot die of thirst or hunger.

As for how to correct it, that one's outlined. Either get sieged a lot and mulch them all with traps and warriors, or do it by hand with a line of adventurers dedicated to it. Depending on the size of the world it might be a little lengthy, but it's a worthy quest.

Same way we value our Legendary Weaponsmith, Armorsmith, some of our champion warriors, etc. We just let them think the D-classes are their friends, we know better.

DFhack does point it properly when people die from alcohol poisoning in this, right?

Otherwise, I can't think of anything other than something being contaminated with bleeding syndrome, or the return of the "I AM MELTING IN THE RAIN" bug. Or something being supernaturally hot somewhere in the fortress.

Hmm, last time I had crabs they only killed one guy. The rest got punched to death by my woodcrafters and a miller who laughed at them afterwards. Can they spit across up/down stairs, vertically?

Eh, that's not an artifact. It's probably just decorated with ridiculous amounts of gems.

Even if this is just a bug Giant Shrikes should probably be added just for this reason. And regular shrikes but we all know what we want: Savage biomes with highwoods full of mangled corpses.

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: Permanent symptoms?
« on: March 11, 2016, 08:30:55 am »
...yep, this makes sense, probably forgotten beast excretions. It's possible the diagnoser didn't do anything because there isn't much that can be done when all that's happening is pain. Even in these amounts.

Permanent syndromes are not unheard of when it comes to forgotten beasts either, so it's possible this one'll be in utter pain forever, or at least a very long time. At least he proved himself, if he killed the thing when in THAT much pain.

That's a bit odd, the biggest bug I had with the medical system nowadays could be chalked up to idiocy (plopping the patient in the middle of the hospital floor when there was a bed), but nothing like that. Even the priority thing wasn't too troublesome, with enough dwarves the job gets taken up eventually.

Make sure your chief medical dwarf's active and not busy doing something stupid.

That's... an oddity. I'm thinking it might be a version screwup. They don't even show up in red, as in "lacking resources"?

Is this an older save updated to a new version? I think that little problem happened in that particular case.
